  1. Piece of advise if you need to update via SD card I found the most reliable way to update by SD card was to go on a well known auction site and buy a second hand "official Skoda map update branded SD card" this means I now have my original card plus a backup I can upload the latest maps onto. I could never get a 3rd party non Skoda brand sd card to work in my unit, I guess because of some kind of security protection or something. I have the unit with the SD card reader in the glovebox with no CD player in a 2016 rapid, Audmensen I think.
  2. I'm back in the Skoda fray now after a 10 year absence Over Christmas, my old Vauxhall Meriva practically suffered a coolant system failure cumulating in a blown head gasket so I had to find a replacement fairly rapidly. It was between a 1.4tsi Skoda Octavia Elegance and a 1.2tsi Skoda Rapid Spaceback Tech, and long story short the 1,2tsi Rapid won the choice and I'm now the happy owner of a 2016 Rapid Spaceback The things that won it for the Spaceback in my eyes were the - Boot - perfect for dogs jumping in and out - Engine (£30 road tax - the Octavia was 1mg into the higher tax band annoyingly!) Overall the engine is quiet, it purrs along and at ideal you cant hear it at all. under the bonnet, everything is accessible easily and its all there in front of you, it always annoyed me with the Meriva that I had to remove half the fascia under the windscreen to access some of the fluids. In hindsight I probably would have gone for the Octavia, but running costs (Fuel+Tax+Insurance) did it for me and overall I am happy with the equipment level Ive got in the Rapid anyways.
  3. Sorry, we always seem to have this argument.. I have this work commute, that is about 10 miles there, 10 miles back so 20 miles in total a day, takes about 30 minutes to commute, I've never had this question fully answered, but is it generally frowned upon doing this sort of commute distance on a Diesel with a DPF car? is there a risk of stuffing up the DPF? As for road types, it's generally country roads, 40-60mph crusing speed for the vast majority with only a bit of 20/30mph "town" driving at the end. What's everyones thoughts?
  4. HiBudget is up to 9k for low mileage Octavia as new as possible as I want to keep it for a long time Jc Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
  5. That's what I was thinking... Other option is getting a non-DPF model I guess ;-) what year were DPF's introduced?
  6. I am in a quandary over what to get for my next car, Diesel or Petrol.. The garage that repairs my current car resonantly says stay away from Diesel! DPF's nightmare etc etc etc, but on the other side I see lots of people driving about with no problems at all with their DPF's. I guess it's all down to the driving I do, typically my Commute consists of a 30 minute 9 mile commute one way, (about 20 miles each day in total) as for the roads I am driving on, its no city driving at all where I am typically averaging 50-70 mph with the odd 30 mph through villages. Apart from the daily commute, we do occasional distance day trips occasionally motorway's, trips to Europe etc.. This is what has got me thinking, surely DPF problems stem from the vast majority of stop/start traffic commuting that people do on a daily basis??? I am not totally convinced my driving is that. Opinions?
  7. I'd be curious about differences too between PD and CR engines..
  8. What paint do u use? And how easy is it to do? #firsttimer
  9. police cars do carry cameras and telemetry recordings you could ask for that info to be admitted?? Sent from my Nexus 7 using Forum Fiend v1.2.14.

  14. It actually seems to be an Octavia 1.2tsi DSG did they do a 1.2 in 2013?
  15. Forgot to say the Octavia is a 7 spd DSG and Rapid is a manual... anythting to worry about when looking at second hand 1 yr DSG's? Thinking im going to try and sneak a test drive of that one as well
