  1. My 2003 octavia elegance tdi 110bhp can be driven continually along the motorway at 70 and the temp needle barely moves off the scale. I put the blower on HI and get luke warm air being blown out. If I come to a stop and the car idles, the temp will slowly go up. Start driving again the temp shoots down again. Ive had a recent cambelt change and had the pump, thermostat and temp sensor changed but no difference. The problem still existed prior to the cambelt change but now its just getting worse. The outside temp is near 12c recently so shouldnt effect the warm up. Anyone any ideas? I can only think that coolant is bypassing the thermostat somehow? I want to get it sorted as its affecting my mpg which is averaging 45mpg although the dash always says 55. Prior to the problem I always had 50mpg plus
  2. Thanks for the replies. Ive never had an issue with the engine so far, its always started and ive never had to top it up between changes. It may be a case of better the devil you know so might keep using it. The only thing ive noticed recently was that my coolant temp takes a while to get to 90c. Outside temp ave 0-5c. Had cambelt/pump/thermostat changed but still the same. When at around 70c and I blow hot air in cabin, the temp needle starts going down. This never happened before, it would always gradually rise to 90c. Saying that, once its at 90 it doesnt budge
  3. Hi, Ive just been made aware that my 2003 octavia 1.9tdi 110bhp ASV engine is not a PD engine! I bought the car with 100,000 miles and is now 170,000 miles. For every 10,000 miles I have been changing the oil and using Millers VW spec semi-synthetic xfe-pd 5/40 as it conformed to 505.01. As my engine is not pd, my question is have I comprimised my engine and what oil/grade/code should I use? Many thanks, Andy
  4. My flywheel is knackered and needs replacing. Does anyone know if it is the DMS flywheel fitted to the car which is bought as one unit (clutch and flywheel) or are they seperate? My car is a 2003. Ive been told it will be £750 all in to fit a new one to my car. Can anyone tell me if I could fit a G60 flywheel and how much it costs? Would the clutch be seperate? Cheers, Andy
  5. I was travelling along my usual stretch of bypass to work and then came to a stop at a roundabout. Upon setting off, I heard a loud grind/moan from the engine/transmission as I engaged clutch and pulled away. I feathered it to work and noise was only apparent when clutch was engaged and accelerating. Noise was same in each gear and gears engaged normally. When clutch was engaged the engine revved fine with no noises. Upon leaving work some hours later and by the time I arrived home the engine was now noisy and sounded rough whether or not clutch was engaged. Noise seems to be coming from the nearside whilst sat in the car. I also noticed that the radiater fans are now running constantly? Car has 113k, oil is fine and water is on the level in the reservoir. Engine still revs freely and power is the same. Any ideas before I go to the garage? Kind regards in advance, Andy
  6. And if the engine in the 110bhp is not a PD, what is it? Cheers Andy
  7. You never mentioned 505.01 in that list? Can I use this in my Octavia TDI 110?
  8. OK, cheers. Ive just bought some Millers XFE-PD 5/40 oil which is to the VW505.01 spec. Ive been told its quite a good oil and a good price. I paid
  9. Its a 2003 Skoda Octavia Elegance TDI estate 110bhp. Think it has the PD engine
  10. Ive not long bought an 03 Octavia tdi 110bhp with 102,000 miles? Im going to do an oil change but confused to the type I should be putting in? I think the car has been on Variable servicing but dont like the idea of putting long life oil in and keeping it in the engine for 30,000 miles. Can I switch to a 'normal' oil and change it every 10,000 miles without causing any damage to the engine in the long run? (will it be used to running on long life?). If I can change the oil type, what should I use? Cheers Andy
  11. "Extended servicing" "Variable servicing" "Q1/Q2" ???????????? Ive not long bought a 03 Octavia TDI 110bhp with 102,000 miles. Dont like the idea of a 30,000 mile oil changes using long life oil (would this be a variable service?) Can I change to a 10,000 mile oil change and not use long life oil without causing detrement to the engine? If so what oil should I use? Cheers, Andy
