  1. I had a Valeo kit fitted approx 8k ago, on my 1.9 TDi. As others have said on this forum, the single mass flywheel and clutch transforms the way the car drives. It is so smooth straight from tickover and doesn't produce the rattles and drones I used to get from the DMF when pulling in the 1200 1400 revs range. Keep the car, you know it's history, the engines good for at least 200k I am told.
  2. Need to access my rear washer pipe, have unclipped 2 clips at bottom, one either side, now stumped. How many clips are there and exactly where are they, anyone got a link to a diagram or info on how to remove this panel? Thanks in advance John Archer
  3. thanks for all the replies, it looks like I shall just have to fiddle with a screwdriver to unclip the nearside light connector. Stupid design having different lengths of harness on each side.
  4. Was going to change both my dipped beam bulbs this afternoon, changed the offside bulb without difficulty by removing the complete unit disconnnecting wiring plug etc put new bulb in working in warm kitchen, went out to remove nearside light unit and problem. The light unit wont come out far enough to allow it to rotate and let me unclip the wiring plug which is what I did with the offside unit. The wiring loom seems to be a bit shorter and makes it a rather difficult job to get at the connector in the space next to the air filter housing. My car had a bump last year and the front wing and lamp was replaced afterwards, could it be the accident repairers have shortened the loom or is this normal for the nearside electrical connector to be a right pain to get off? Is it easy to remove the air filter housing to allow access? All advice welcome here. Thanks.
  5. Just going to remove trim on tailgate to re attach washer pipe. can anyone please advise me on how many clips there are and where they are located. I have unclipped 4 at the bottom and 2 at the side so far and unscrewed the tailgate pull strap. How many more have I to yank out? Awkward things! Thanks John Archer Edinburgh
  6. Had alarm going off at random yesterday, coincidentally also when my rear washer had stopped squirting water on to the rear screen and into inside of hatch door instead. Suspect water/dampness in some sensor is causing the alarm to trigger. Not got time to take off door trim and investigate, will look at it later this week. In the meantime I pulled out the fuse and no more alarm going off. What I am wondering is if I just leave the alarm fuse out will there be any problems apart from car being less secure. Is there a back up battery in the alarm siren which might not be getting charged when the alarm circuit fuse is removed and which might be set up to make the siren make a noise warning of low battery voltage, rather like domestic smoke detectors do when the battery is about to run out. Anyone on the forum taken one of the alarm sirens apart and can share info on how they are set up? Thanks in advance. John Archer Edinburgh
  7. My car is the 105bhp tdi and has just covered 86k. Had fitted a valeo smf flywheel and clutch fitted by an independent garage last week, what a transformation in the way the car can be driven.Just smooth pick up, no vibrations in the 1000-1200 rpm band and as a bonus, fuel consumption seems to be a few mpg better, down to fewer gearchanges I suppose. Thanks to forum members praising smf conversions on this engine, I eventually took the plunge and so far have no regrets.
  8. Car has presumably genuine VAG gearbox oil in it, it was changed at 66k approx. by Skoda main dealer.
  9. My 1.9tdi elegance has now covered 83k. An intermittent fault is persisting and I would like to have it resolved even if it means spending some serious cash. When cold, gear selection is no problem in all the gears. When hot ( maybe after 10 miles of heavy traffic in the city) I get a loud crash going from 1st to 2nd at around 2000rpm when I hurry the gearchange, even with the clutch fully depressed. I also notice that when this happens, say when rolling up to a give way and changing down from 2nd into 1st when the car has almost stopped, I can feel the cogs trying to mesh just as you push the lever into 1st. This is all intermittent behaviour, I can drive the car for days in the city and never get any crashing of gears then out of the blue it starts happening again. Now is this a symptom of a worn dual mass flywheel/clutch, clutch hydraulics, or is it more likely to be synchromesh problems in the box. I would very much welcome comments from any of the Octavia experts on this forum before I take the the car in to an independent garage for investigation. Thanks in advance. John Archer Edinburgh
  10. You have my sympathy, I had the same thing happen on my Octavia Mk1 when it had 98k on the clock.
  11. Brim to brim consumption is a lot less than what the onboard computer would have us believe. Two weeks ago on a trip from Edinburgh to Windermere my computer was showing an average of 78mpg for the journey, 70mph max on the motorway and 40-50 on main roads. On returning north I could only achieve 64mpg on the computer having driven in the same style. On filling the tank I reckon that I had got around 58mpg for the round trip. City driving by the way seems to be 46-51mpg on the computer.
  12. had exactly the same thing happen in my previous Octavia with 98k on the clock, sourced a box on ebay then sold the car.
  13. Will try that out next time I get the crashing of gears, thanks.
  14. History first: Bought the Octavia 105bhp tdi last year with 66k on clock and came with one year Skoda dealer warranty.About one month after purchase I started having problems with crashing of gears going from 1st to 2nd and going back down 2nd into 1st. Other gear changes seemed ok. Dealer under warranty changed the gearbox oil, I was sceptical that this would cure the problem but heh, it did, and up until yesterday, the car drove fine and never had any problems going from 1st to 2nd even when rushing the change. The car now has covered 78k. Now this week I have intermittent behaviour of crashing the change from 1st to 2nd, it appears to be happening only when the engine is hot and I have been driving in city traffic with lots of gearchanges. The car is no longer under warranty. The Cure? This is where I would be most grateful if the experts on this excellent forum can throw in a few suggestions. Note; ( The car still has the dmf and is only producing light judder under light load in higher gears from low revs. Was contemplating a Valeo smf conversion at some point but was waiting till the judder got a lot worse than it is just now) Looking forward to reading your suggestions.
