  1. Yes, doing it on the floor with decent axle stands giving about 550mm lift at top of stands, removing the track control arm might be the way to go then. Thanks for the reply.
  2. Hi Guys, Do I need a special tool to remove the near-side track rod or is it accesible and are there any other problems that might occur with this job? Thanks.
  3. Well aware of that ta, that's why I've asked the question here.
  4. Thanks for your reply, tried TPS, wondered if I could get it Cheaper elsewhere.
  5. Hi guys, Does anyone know of a reliable supplier on the net for a rear wheel bearing/hub assembly for my Octavia? Thanks.
  6. Thanks for your reply, I'll check it out.
  7. Hi all, I have a problem with the door open warning light staying on. Car has had diagnostic check which pointed to n/s/f door lock assembly but after this was changed, problem still occurred, any help would grateful, car is 2008 Fabia.
  8. Thanks for the reply, I know it's there but the panel wont budge and afraid I'll break it.
  9. Hi all, I must be missing something but I can't remove the plenum chamber cover to access the pollen filter. The manual says that early models have screws securing it but I can't see any.(2000 model SLXI 1.8 T, before facelift) Also while I'm posting, I can't see how to do a 'search' on the forum, not my day.
  10. Thanks for that. Had a look at the Autodata site and it looks quite good.
  11. Thanks for the positive replies chaps, I can see both points of the argument but I do fancy taking the job on. I've done some awkward jobs in my time, (anyone done an octapus pipe on a Citroen BX), so I'm not too bothered just wanted some idea. I haven't ruled out getting a garage to carry-out the work as I have some friends in the trade so depending on what sort of price I get quoted will decide on my course of action.
  12. Hi all, I can understand your comments regarding this, maybe I should have started with "I'm a qualified motor mechanic but I haven't done it as a job for many years and although I haven't changed many cambelts in my time I have done a few so wondered what sort of job it is and are there any pitfulls to look out for?" The last cambelt was changed 4yrs ago July 2010 by a garage where I wasn't charged a lot, (£200) but I don't have that option anymore so that's why I'm thinking about doing it myself. Thanks for all the replies.
  13. Hi all, I have done some search's and read a lot about cambelt change's but other than a link to a Seat forum that didn't work I can't find any reports on the job or how difficult it might be, is their one that I've missed?
  14. I've got to pick up my daughters Astra from Elgin in Scotland and intend to bring it home on a trailer (they hit a deer unfortunately) so I have been trying to find the Kerb and Gross Train weights for my 2000 18T Octavia to make sure I'm within limits. I can't find it anywhere in the handbook but there is a sticker on the n/s/f suspension turret with some figures on but need to confirm. Any help would be appreciated.
  15. Hi, I know their has been a lot of talk on remaps but has anyone had any experience of ECU Evolution, the postal service seems to be too good to be true. Is their likely to be any problems with removing the ECU etc? I have a SLXI Turbo, throttle cable not fly-by-wire. Thanks.
  16. You and me both! Mine came from Towsure and as there is 'Type Approval' on towing brackets these days and you just can't just knock one up out of any scrap you have kicking around, then I should think that its ok.
  17. Car back and running fine. The failed part, (Ignition Amplifier), is fitted at the back of the air box and is roughly 50mm x 30mm and reasonably flat. Apparantly failure is rare and the later models do not have them, mine is June 2000, last of the first model, Other than siezed rear electric window cables/motors, (which I've still to sort), thats the first problem in over 5yrs and 48k so can't complain.
  18. Well, apparantly the fault was traced to the 'Ignition Amplifier'. The part is approx £100 trade and I don't think its to hard to fit but I will find out more tomorrow as its on order and should arrive in the morning.
  19. I give up, its going in the garage tomorrow! Its someone we deal with at work who's had the car in before so at least the labour charge shouldn't be too much, I will update when I know more. Thanks for the assistance anyway.
  20. A good point, I thought of fuel but not the timing of it. I had a look at the connection to the injector which seemed ok and when I swapped sparkplugs no.1 was wet. Someone has suggested a sticky valve but to me it seems electrical the way it cut in and out, when accelerating it was instantaneous when it came back in, then it would just go back to 3 cyls again and yesterday at one point when it was ticking over it came back in and out 3 or 4 times in quick succesion.
  21. A couple of Cornish lads, I'm from the other end, Saltash, used to go to Truro a lot as had relatives there, love the road from Tresilian up to Truro.
  22. Had another look at it today, checking wiring as much as I could incase of short, had no.1 cut back in and out a few times then stayed runing ok, took it around the block, back to 3 cylinders, so I went for a ride on me bike!
  23. As I already have a set then I may as well give them a try, but not yet as I still only have 3 cylinders! (see other thread). Thanks for the feedback.
  24. Today I swapped 1&2 sparkplugs, misfire still on 1, also checked to see that I had a live feed on connector to coilpack with ignition on, (if no live feed, could be ECU apparantly), checked electrical connector on no.1 injector, seemed to be ok, looks like I will have to get it put on a diagnostic machine.
