  1. Pretty sure there is a section in the handbook r.e. manual release of boot. I've had to do it on my estate, drop the rear seats, climb into boot access release latce via hinged panel. Suggest you take a torch...
  2. It will depend on the car:caravan weight ratio to a large extent. I tow a caravan with a petrol vrs estate. Other than the poor fuel economy and problems with grip on wet grass I have had no bother. I tend to load up the car boot with the heavier equipment and have had no worries with lack of power or snaking. I bought the caravan last spring and was limited to the choice of caravan by the car. If you already have your caravan you will be able to assess the weight ratios and make up your mind from there.(If I recall the C&C club website had a good section on towcar selection) I'm tempted to go for a Superb 4x4 for my next car
  3. I have a fixed towbar and it does not affect the parking sensors in day to day usage. I was interested in Sparky2's comment r.e. the electrics turning the sensors off when a caravan is attached - that is a real problem i have when reversing the caravan / trailer the constant flat-line from the sensors is distracting and makes it hard to hear any verbal communication from outside. - I'll have to enquire about getting a re-wire job done.
  4. Strangely this happened to me yesterday. Radio & CD did not work on my 40min drive to work, worked perfectly fine for my return journey. Still ok today. Reasons for this? - I have no idea
  5. I'd say that it is worth buying the oil at a bargain price anyway. You will definitely get through it even if, like me, you don't do interim changes. I find my vrs drinks oil for fun and get through a couple of litres of the stuff between services. First time in many years that i've had a car that needs me to do oil top ups at less than 10k frequency. See the other threads r.e. oil consumption on vrs. I'm on petrol btw.
  6. I have the airbag fault light showing in my 2006 vrs. From looking at previous posts it seems likely to be a connection under the seats that will be at fault. Has anyone on here had experience of this recently? What will the likely cost of repair be and am i best going to skoda dealer for this? Advice welcomed...
  7. Resurrecting an old thread here in the hope that someone has worked around the problem of switching off the rear parking sensor for situations such as reversing a trailer/caravan. If anyone has a solution, please enlighten me and save me from the noise...
  8. Vredestein Tyres - TYREMEN, Hull, East Yorkshire UK These guys were doing 18" Vreds at £90 each - you would have to pay extra for the fitting etc...
  9. Just swapped from Falkens to Vreds 225/40 r18 Vreds give good level of grip and I'll wait and see how much life i get out of them. I got about 18K out of the Falkens but had uneven wear (inner edge) and had to have the wheel alignment adjusted. All four for £398 inclusive fitted courtesy of my local Skoda dealer - Royce Roberts in Hull, great service.
  10. Thanks for your comments I'll give the mythos a miss...
  11. Bought my vrs estate second hand and it was loaded with extras. I'd rank them in following order: 1. Xenon lights - great for dark country lanes - most of my mileage. 2. Rear park sensors - much easier to park the estate. 3. Climatronic 4. Cruise control - wouldn't pay for it because i don't do enough motorway miles through speed camera laden roadworks (if i did more miles then definite must have)
  12. Anybody got experience of these tyres. I asked my local tyre fitter for a set of new tyres (vrs estate - 225/40/R18) and he came back with prices for: Price 1 Michelin Pilot sport 2 £ 164.79 > > Price 2 Marangoni Mythos £ 94.13 > > Price 3 Federal £ 62.38 I've asked him to quote for Vreidsteins and Goodyear Eagle F1's but was interested if anyone has used the Marangonis - I've never heard of them.
  13. I used to love driving my previous car a 4x4 Octy mk1 - no problems in snow/ice on ungritted back roads. My current car a mk2 vrs however... lets just say i've been using the wifes Hyundai Getz to travel to work this week
  14. Do any of you change to winter tyres? I changed from a MKI Octavia 4x4 in the summer for a MkII petrol vrs estate and was taken aback by the difference in handling I had to deal with in the little bit of snow and ice today. Never had an ounce of wheelspin or lack of steering feedback with the 4x4 but the vrs was very skittish. Managed to get to work safe and sound but as i mainly drive on the country roads (which are great fun in the summer in the vrs, even in the rain) I wondered whether i should change to winter tyres to give me a bit more traction in the snow/slush(any recommendations?)
  15. Thanks for all of your suggestions - I'll hope for a dry Bank Holiday Monday and will see how I get on Cheers
  16. My 5 year old daughter helped wash my car yesterday - unfortunately she managed to push her sponge out of reach on the bonnet. Before i'd noticed she had decided to drag the hose pipe up over the wing to give herself extra reach. Result: light scratches to the wing/body area I've never really bothered with issues like this before - scratches didn't show that much on my previous MKI Octavia 4x4 in silver, but my new Race Blue vrs is a different matter. "Polish the scratches out" is what i'm told - is this the best method? Any prefered polishes people use?, coloured ones? Any advice appreciated - nothing to technical though....nice and simple is best with me and cars Thanks in advance.
  17. I've got a blue vrs, mainly because thats the colour the wife prefered in the toss up between black and Blue. I bought second hand so had little choice really, given the option on a new car i'd have been tempted with white. It is definitely going to be the colour of fashion this year. Would have reminded me of my first car as well... a G reg MG Montego
  18. I got my vrs on an 06 plate couple of weeks back. I'd give a massive thumbs up for the Xenon, especially if, like me, you do driving through country lanes at night. Cruise control was useful when we travelled from Yorkshire to South Wales - control through the camera infested roadworks was handy, as mentioned above. Rear sensors also a real bonus, wasn't sure how useful they'd be, but they helped get out of a tight parking spot at work last week. Take some getting used to through. Obviously the freebie options are a given. Not got maxidot, so can't comment on it.
  19. I had the dealer provide me with a set of crossbars for my vrs estate when negotiating the price. Now that I have opened the box and found that the width of the bars is much wider than the bars I had for my Octavia I. They were simple box section bars. I can't fit my bike rack or roof box to the new bars using my current U-clamp fittings. Does anyone know where I can get new fittings from? Or is there a different way for attaching items to these wide bars (I see there is a rubber sealed section down the length of the bars.)? Any advice would be great Thanks.
  20. Been viewing the forum for a while and have had my vrs fsti for just under two week (06 plate). Will be placing an order for x4 new tyres soon and to me the general concensus is that for a 'cheaper' tyre I won't go far wrong with the Falken FK452's (18"rim) I can get them for just under £300 all inclusive fitted I think this is a decent price - agree?
  21. Any experience of Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres on vrs? Just got my car this week it will be 2 in April and I'll need new tyres in a short while. Kwik fit have price of £106 each (225 40 R18)when buying 4 so i'm tempted to go with that but would appreciate any comments.
