  1. James, thanks for the link, I think my mate has already been in contact to order a copy of the picture. The video is great, and the AMG sounded fantastic as he gunned it. Definitely need a lottery win.....
  2. I saw you there yesterday, car looked very smart and definitely held its own! We were in the Caterham, not ideal conditions for a car like that, constantly fighting to breakaway. Didn't help that I had a constanly misting helmet either......That, along with the fact that it wasn't my car meant I only drove for one session and enjoyed the passenger rides for the rest. If I'd binned my best friends car, I'd have been devastated!! I doubt the Megane driver is enjoying replaying the track day in his mind, that looked a very expensive afternoon drive and definitely won't polish out.....
  3. Mike, many thanks for your input. I took the seat out yesterday and now have the cleanest ratchet mechanism anyone has ever seen! The problem is still there, though I have managed to drop the seat a little. It looks like the wire that loops round has become loose and/or tangled, but I couldn't get underneath to look properly, and my DIY skills are somewhat limited, so I admitted defeat and refitted the seat. It's in the garage on Tuesday for a cam belt, so might ask them to take a look if they get chance. If it needs a new mechanism, then I will have to get one ordered and hopefully normal service can be restored...... Thanks again J
  4. Thanks for the replies guys, my paranoia has now eased! Car has done 75k, and well out of warranty, so it looks like a spot of DIY might be the order of the day. Hopefully it will be a case of greasing the mechanism.......Thanks again!
  5. Hi all, I haven't had any replies to my query. Is it because I've done something wrong in posting (incorrect etiquette??) or is it just too boring!! If boring, won't be offended, it hardly blows my socks off either.... Thanks
  6. I have a Mk2 vRS which I've currently got a problem with. I'm 6'2" and my partner is around 6" shorter, so whilst I drive it I like the seat to be on its lowest setting, but she obviously prefers much higher. The problem is that now the adjuster only works to take the seat higher, and refuses to lower! Now it's on the highest setting, and whilst its lovely to be able to see over hedges etc, I could do with fixing the aduster so I can get back to being comfortable. Has anyone had a similar experience, and could anyone point me in the right direction..... Thanks all.
  7. Took my vRS into Simpsons Skoda, Preston, yesterday morning, for the "police siren" noise. By 10 o'clock I'd got a call saying the turbo needed replacement, and I've collected it today. Just thankful it was covered under warranty (out of warranty next month!!), as the invoice I signed was over £1100 excl VAT, and without labour...... Just taken car out again, and unless I've suddenly lost my hearing, there's no whistle whatsoever. The car's only done 43K, is this a common fault???
  8. The problem that worries me most is who is now responsible for the wheels for the rest of the warranty period? If the other wheels begin to flake, am I expected to liaise with a dealer in Dorset all the time? It seems a little strange, and not what I would have expected.......
  9. I have a problem and would appreciate any thoughts/ideas. In February I bought a demo vRS from a South West based dealer, due to the fact it had the jumbo pack fitted, 18" rims etc. I collected the car from the dealer, and to cut a very long story short, having driven halfway home found it was actually on 17" rims. I therefore phoned the dealer, and they (albeit reluctantly) swapped 18" rims from another demo they had in stock for sale. Two of the alloys are now flaking, and Skoda UK are telling me that they are not covered under warranty as they are not the original rims on the car, and that it is the dealer's responsibility to sort. Has anyone else had a similar problem?? Having spoken to people in the industry, it is normal to swap wheels from other cars if it helps seal the deal. The question is, who then is responsible for issues such as mine? At present I am being offered a local refurb. of the 2 wheels, or taking the vehicle back down South to swap another pair of wheels. Can anyone offer any advice, or thoughts? All would be much appreciated.......
  10. Had my Octavia vRS serviced for the first time yesterday at Simpsons, and was very impressed by the whole experience. I arrived at 8.15 and was dealt with straight away by Phil the service manager. He took the keys and handed me back keys for a Roomster courtesy car. Whilst the car was in he sorted some warranty issues I had, including the software upgrade, and ordered a new alloy and fog light surround, both of which were flaking. When I collected the car, he talked though what had been done, and also helped me out with a problem I have on one of the other alloys. The car was cleaned inside and out, and helped to give a level of attention I haven't been used to before, mainly from BMW dealers on other cars. Well done Simpsons!!
  11. My '57 plate Diesel vRS is just coming upto 18k, and therefore due a service in the near future. There are a couple of small but annoying issues I have, but as I am not technically minded, thought I might try to pick the brains of those who are! It has an exhaust rattle (I think) that makes most noise when pulling away but then seems to disappear, and a very pronounced judder when under load between 1200-1500 rpm. As for squeaks, I'm not sure where any of them are coming from, but they do spoil a very good car at times! Are these problems others have had, and if so, what can do about them? In addition, the car also feels a bit "baggy", particularly the gear shift, as though it's done more miles than it actually has. It does get driven pretty hard, but to my mind doesn't feel as tight as I would expect. I appreciate it might all just be in my head, but does anyone else have the same thoughts? Final question - I am based in Wigan, and Chapelhouse has recently closed down. Does anyone have an opinion as to the best franchised dealer around the area to use for servicing? Thanks in anticipation, great website!
  12. I've gone from a very unreliable 525D Estate to a Diesel vRS Hatch with 18" alloys. The ride is definitely firmer, but a sporty hatch is always going to be compared to a car like the BMW. I find the Octy quieter on the motorway, and definitely much quicker mid-range. I also use it to tow a caravan (the shame.......), but also find it much more stable than the BMW. If you are used to driving diesel, it might be worth trying one and comparing it to the petrol version.
  13. I have a '57 vRS with 18" alloys, and have noticed that they are beginning to flake towards the back of the spokes. Paint has also begun to flake away from the fog light surround. I will be contacting my local dealer shortly, but just wondered whether anyone else has had the same problem? I assume that both will be dealt with under warranty, but if anyone has had any experience, I would be interested to know what the outcome was. Thanks in anticipation.
  14. Just taken ownership of a '57 Octavia TDI Vrs after a few expensive years of BMW diesel ownership. What a car! It's fast, practical and reasonably economical even with my lead foot. Had some issues with actually buying the car (bought from a dealer near Bournemouth), and may start a new thread about it if I don't get a decent response from my email to the dealer. Anyway, that's for another day - for now I'll just enjoy the car.
