  1. Hi, would appreciate your advice please. My Fabia 1.4 Elegance 03 Plate has done just over 40K miles and has suddenly developed lots of problems. To get through the MOT it needs new front bushes and new front brake disks and pads which is fine but it has developed other problems. The clutch is right at the top so this needs replacing 1. The back door lock was stuck shut but suddenly unlocked the other day so I have pulled the fuse out. Already replaced this once before. 2. The front driver door only opens intermittently. If it does not open then you have to lean over from the passenger side and pull the inside handle. Then it unlocks 3. found the passenger window sightly open the other day. I pressed the button to close it. There was lots of crunching and now the window just flaps around. I have wedged it up with cardboard. 4. The EPS light has come on a few times. The RAC chap said the code said there was a wrong voltage going to the control unit. He said it was a badly conditioned battery due to short trips or could be the engine management unit playing up. He suggested charging the battery for 24 hours to condition it. It has not happened again since doing this. So the car needs: New front bushes (quoted £170+vat) New front brake disks and pads (quoted 150+vat) New brake fluid (quoted £50+vat) Oil change and filter (quoted £50+vat) New clutch (not got price yet but assuming it will not be cheap) Sort the two door locks (quoted £500+vat) - garage said no guarantee because it could be wiring loom problem if intermittent or the engine management unit. Sort the door window (not had quote yet) Is it worth sorting all this on an 03 car or should I call it a day. Had it for 11 years so cannot complain too much. Thanks
  2. Hi, I know this is a strange question but really appreciate some help. About 6 months ago the central locking stopped working on the back door of my 03 Fabia and the door has been locked ever since. The MOT runs out in a couple of weeks and the garage said it will cost £300 for them to open and fix the door. The car also needs new front bushes which is £180 to pass the mot. Suddenly today the door has opened. The garage said that they can mot it if the door is open when they get it. My question, is there a fuse I can pull out or any other way I can disable the central locking to ensure that the door does not lock again. I guess the alarm would stay disabled. I will get the lock done later but I just need to get the car through the MOT as cheaply as possible and then my friend can look at the lock because the front one is sticking as well. Thank you for any advice.
  3. Hi, would be really grateful for some advice.....the drivers door on my 03 Fabia has developed an annoying problem. When press the key fob, the central locking opens all doors except the drivers one. I have to open the passenger door, lean across and pull the inside handle just once and then press the key fob again. The door only unlocks if the internal handle is pulled first. I just wondered if this sounds like something I could look at, maybe something misaligned that I could find if i removed the door handle maybe? Or maybe this is more involved and needs trip to garage. thanks
  4. Thanks for the info. I have not even managed to get the old one off; I guess it just pulls off but I am frightened to pull too hard in case I break it. If the new one does not fit anyway then I guess a trip to the Skoda dealer is probably best. Thanks again.
  5. Hi, I need to replace the rear wiper on my Fabia 1 (03 Hatchback) but I am unsure how to do this and whether I have purchased the correct part. I asked in Halfords and they told me I needed a Bosch A350H. They did not have any so I purchased this elsewhere (pic attached). The current wiper looks nothing like this? The current wiper is under the plastic shield and I cannot see how to remove the wiper assembly - does it just pull off and this new one push in or am I missing something? I am frightened that I will break the plastic arm if I pull it around too much. Thanks for any advice. Really appreciated
  6. Hi, just been to see fabia 2 2007 1.4 in metallic copper and thinking of changing my fabia 1. I was a little disappointed to find that the passenger window button did not work or the central locking button to lock the doors from the inside. The dealer said they would fix these but i am wondering if the fabia 2 has the same problems as the 1. I had to pay to fix the back doors that leaked water in. I have changed two failed central locking motors, the heating is often stuck on hot and the engine management light is often on despite changing sensors recommended by garage. I was hoping the 2 might be more reliable. I should add that my fabia 1 is 2003 elegance 1.4. Would really appreciate any advice. Is the fabia 2 ok or should i steer clear
  7. Many thanks to everybody for the advice. I do not have an amp, just a stereo that was installed about 4 years ago. Interesting you mention the central locking, I had the front motor changed a few months ago as the lock stopped opening but I have no idea whether the problem was there prior to this as I was using the car every day. I think I will have to it in to the garage and ask them to take a look. Thanks again.
  8. Hi, thank you for the info. I have checked the interior lights and the glove box light. I cannot find a light in the boot but I will check again. Thanks
  9. Thanks for all the info - unfortunately I don't have an android phone, I liked the unit on ebay as it all seemed to be self contained but I am not sure if they work ok?
  10. Hi, I just wondered if there are any known issues relating to battery drain on 2003 Fabias. I have recently stopped using the car so much and noticed that the battery goes completely flat within 3 weeks. I bought a new battery but the problem is still there. I do not know much about cars but people have given me different advice. One garage said that this is normal and another said that the battery should hold its charge for a couple of months??? A friend told me to put a meter in line with the battery and pull the fuses to see what is causing the problem but I am not too comfortable doing this. Is this something a garage should be able to sort quickly or does it need to be looked at by somebody who specialises in electrics. I really would appreciate any advice. Thank you very much indeed.
  11. Hi, I want to get a code reader for my 2003 Fabia that will allow me to read the codes and reset the engine light. I have seen the U281 reader on Ebay for around £13 and wondered if these are ok? Or maybe there is a better unit that would work with my car. Thank you very much for your help.
  12. Hi, Skoda Fabia 1.4 Ellegance (03) - the lock on my passenger door has become intermittent. Sometimes it opens and other times it stays locked (the button stays down). This happened on the back door before and it ended up locked shut. It then cost me a fortune for them to sort it out. When the lock stays down you can hear a sound from inside the door so I wondered if something is just slipping and whether it is worth trying to get the trim off to take a look. Is this likely to be something simple or do you think I should let the garage deal with it. Thank you for any assistance.
  13. When I start my car, either the engine management or the power steering light stays on. This is intermittent - there can be no problem for a few days and then one of the lights will remain on. It normally only stays on for that journey and will be off again the next time I use the car. This has only started happening since the mot a few weeks ago (they also reset the service indicator). I only ever use the car for very short journeys and I wonder if the battery may not be charging enough (although the car always starts and does not sound as if it is struggling). I wonder if a low battery could cause the intermittent lights. The car is a 2003 Fabia hatch Many thanks for any advice.
  14. Thank you very much indeed for all the advice - it sounds like the sealant solves the problem. I will have to get the Skoda garage to do this as I would be frightened about breaking the door trim - not a job for a girl:)
