  1. Sorry to dig this thread up from the distant past but it popped up whilst having a search about the repairer our Ibiza had been taken to. I was seriously worried when I read some of the comments on here but I'm glad to say they seem to have upped their game since 2007. The whole process was stress free and I can't fault the quality of work :-) Just wanted to add some balance incase anyone else is searching for a review of them
  2. I changed my drop links and ARB bushes this weekend and I guess my clunk over rough ground is a fair bit better. I have noticed that if I rock the engine back and forward with my hands there is a bit of a click type noise. I read on here somewhere that there is some "special" lube to apply to the engine / suspension mounts to cure creaking and knocking? Any one have any part numbers or a copy of the service bulletin?
  3. Started work on this this evening.... top drop link bolts came off no worries, the bottom ones are being a bit more problematic! One of them is now loose and the ball has come out of the drop link but even with mole grips on the protruding ball the nut wont loosen or tighten on the other side. Ah well back on it tomorrow with a little more force:) I couldn't withdraw the top bolt for the ARB bush on the passenger side, damn thing fouls the drive shaft so I didn't replace that one. Even my 1/4" socket set wont get to it so I did it up with a box spanner. All good fun though:D
  4. I didn't fancy putting the axle stands under the console bush area. Where is the best place to support the vehicle if you was to remove the whole console? Lift at the sill and support at the workshop lifting point (magenta ellipse)? Not sure I can get my axle stands in that position with the trolley jack in place :S
  5. I'm a similar size to you too, did my CBT on an SR125 looked like donkey kong on the thing but still could keep up with the flow of traffic even if it felt a little unstable at times. I then did a DAS course on a CB600F a month or so later with no practice in between. The bigger bike felt much more stable and so much easier to ride for me. I spread my DAS course out doing the odd day over a number of weeks as I wasn't up for the 3 days and do a test thing. Passed the test with no minors Then one of the guys at work gave me a 1998 ZZR600 as it needed a bit of work. Rebuilt the brakes, fitted new brake hoses, changed the oil, did the valve shims (cams out job every 6000 miles ) and its not too bad to ride. Didn't have any probs riding it after my test, its not exactly a savage sports bike but 90bhp is enough to make it feel fast enough for me! You obviously dont have to pin the throttle wide open while you are still new to it after your test, as long as you keep that in mind it should keep you out of too many tricky situations
  6. Can I just confirm where you guys normally put the stands. Previously I have jacked on the outside sill with a block of wood (green ellipse)(tyre place did the damage not me) Then put an axle stand under the rail (blue ellipse) I have since found a skoda doc that says you should support the vehicle in the area marked with the magenta ellipse and then goes on to say: "Under no circumstances may the arms of the lift platform or jack be positioned under the engine, the gearbox, the front or rear axles. Never start the engine or engage a gear when the vehicle is raised, while a driving wheel is in contact with the round. Secure the vehicle on the lift platform before its centre of gravity shifts considerably because of successive disassembly operations. The vehicle must not be supported at the front under the sill." What do you guys normally go for? Starting at the outside Further under the car...
  7. A collection of nut and bolt torques I've acquired from going through previous posts... ARB bracket bolts 20 Nm + 1/4 turn Console mounting bolts 70 Nm + 1/4 turn Dog bone mount gearbox end 30 Nm Dog bone mount subframe end 40 Nm Drop link nuts 40 Nm Front wishbone retaining bolt 70 Nm + 1/4 turn Front wishbone to ball joint bolts 20 Nm + 1/4 turn Wheel Bolts 120 Nm No guarantee that these are 100% correct but they should hopefully be of some use.
  8. Thanks Moggy you are a star! Mods if I collected all the torque settings together could we have a sticky post with them all in as a point of reference?
  9. My drop links and ARB bushes turned up today. The bolts the dealer supplied for the ARB bush retaining clamps were 60mm M8 bolts, seems a bit long but I guess they know whats needed Anyone who's changed them know if that sounds correct? The only thing I was after was the torque settings for: Droplink nuts ARB bush retaining bolts
  10. I have the drop links and arb bushes on order just should be delivered tomorrow Good to hear the inner rods can be replaced if they are indeed broked
  11. I had the car jacked up swapping the wheels over for a puncture and noticed if I hold the wheel at quarter to three position and push and pull on each side in turn I get a bit of a knocking noise. I have new bushes in the console and the lower arm shows very very little movement. However the steering arm is moving in and out slightly and the knocking noise is coming from under the car in the middle somewhere. Is this just normal play, is the rack worn or could it be track rod ends (inner / outer)? Car passed its MOT a couple of weeks ago and thinking about it there has been a bit of a knock occasionally over rough road surfaces recently! Just wondered if anyone else had seen the same issue? If it is the inner track rod ends can they be replaced or is it a new rack :( ?
  12. Are you putting the cupra bushes or the standard ones back in? If the cupra ones did your initial attempt mash up the console at all? The ratchet strap for pulling the wishbone back in the console in a must too
  13. Hi There Order up the VW lube mentioned in the first post and get some substantial bits of tin and fashion them to roughly the right shape as shown in the first post, it only needs to be roughly the correct shape. Your local cromwell tools will have the high tensile bolt which you can poke through the middle a and use to wind the assembly in. From the couple I have tried the lube used is quite critical in making it all go together easily. Good luck with it. m.
  14. Well got them on, the carrier bolts came undone with a a couple of wacks with the fist on the end of the 16" breaker bar then the discs just fell off when I undid the retaining screw no club hammer needed! I dabbed a little blue threadlock on the carrier retaining bolts as I was putting them back together. Not sure if that was the correct thing to do or not but I figured it would do no harm!
