  1. Anyone in particular people recommend in the area for a quality service yet well priced?
  2. If thats the case would it blow bubles back though the expansion bottle under load? If so, I'll check that out. There is no steam coming from the exhaust at all, under load or not but it is wet below the expansion bottle area which is leading me to think that water is being boiled out from here?
  3. Hi guys, I've recently had a couple of issues with my vRS starting to overheat. I've noticed the gauge start to creep up towards the red on long journeys after constant driving at 70-80mph so I back off to 60mph and the gauge readout falls. I've definitely been losing coolant and I'm certain its not the head gasket as there is no sign of emulsified oil and no bubbles been blown up through the expansion bottle. However, the heaters sometimes blow cool air even when turned round to hot, more so when the car is starting to overheat. I've been told I could have an airlock but would this give the above symptoms? I've felt the lower radiator hose which feels pretty flimsy and the top hose isn't overly hard either. Is there anyway to properly bleed the system, i.e. a valve somewhere? A trickle of water returns to the expansion bottle from the waterpump but this seems a small amount and may be just caused by the natural expansion when the water warms? I'm thinking a broken impeller maybe although I requested a metal impellered waterpump when I had the cambelt changed. I'm keen to get this sorted asap obviously as if the temperature sensor is reading correctly it'll only be a matter of time before the engine goes pop! On short journeys to work its fine, even on the motorway. Only seems to overheat under long periods of constantly higer revs.
  4. Hi, Is the steering knuckle (where the driveshaft goes through, hub bearing sits, steering arm, bottom ball joint, and caliper bracket fixes to), the same on all Fabia's or is the vRS different? Reason I ask is after a collision with a kerb I've somehow managed to bend it (along with the bottom arm, driveshaft and steering arm) :S
  5. Does anybody know the caliper to carrier bolt spacing on the mkIV's? There's the issue of finding some mkIV carriers too, any ideas?
  6. Are the calipers the same? I.e. If I bought the correct carriers would the mkV calipers have the same fixing points as mkIV carriers (caliper to carrier fixing points)?
  7. Bugger! I remember reading somewhere about the carrier bolt hole spacing is different but for some reason thought this didn't apply to the Golf V. Just bought some so will have to re-sell :( (note to self - check before buying next time!)
  8. Do the calipers and carriers off a VW Golf V GTI fit?
  9. Reckon you can make me one up for some beer money? Just stainless or would a good grade ally be suitable? Wanting to use ally pipe thats all.
  10. Just for ease really. I could send the dwg file to an engineering shop and get them to make it up whilst I'm on with something else. Would be very handy if someone could forward one to me.
  11. Hi, Ages ago I remember somebody had gone to the trouble of creating an AutoCAD drawing of the MAP sensor mount to be used to relocate the mount onto a FMIC setup. If someone has this please could you PM it to me? Thanks, Tom.
  12. LMAO I pranged a kerb on Friday after loosing all traction in the snow, bent my front drivers wheel (saying bent, the outer rim has split away from the wheel) and snapped a steering arm. Fixed/replaced those and I've had a good check of everything else and that looks to be the extent of the damage but I'll find out tonight when I drive her on a small industrial estate. Fingers crossed theres nothing else...
  13. Hi, I've noticed my sump has cracked slightly therefore I am wanting to replace it with something shallower like the 1.8T item below with oil level sender. Ebay link: clicky I've searched but not found anthing regarding fitting these sumps with oil level sensor, is there a reason why they are not mentioned, i.e. they don't fit unlike the sumps without provision for the sensor? I ideally want to retain the function of the level sensor.
  14. Thanks for the guide, I changed mine over the weekend for Cupra console and powerflex wishbone items. Weekend being the operative word as I had no end of problems due to the lack of a wratchet strap lol I tackled mine by removing the console and wishbone together which was simple enough bar the two bolts securing the arb saddle to the console, well, one per side where access was limited due to the driveshaft. Removal of the old bushes was straightforward as was fitting the new ones, the problems arised when I came to refit the console and wishbone back on the car. It was nigh on impossible to get them on together as for some reason the console bush kept pushing the hex peg on the wishbone out meaning that by the time I had got the parts in place, when I came to offer up the wishbone into its front mount it wouldn't fit. Nightmare lol Anyways, main thing is its done now and what a improvement it has made. Fair enough there is a little more vibration transmitted through the cabin when the engine is at lower revs but not a major issue. The handling has been transformed and is much more positive. Vague handling is no more and its nice not to be blown everywhere due a cross wind, I must recommend this mod to those thinking about doing it!
  15. Jetex ones are a good replacement, contact ninja_alex on here as I think he often gets them in and sells at a good price (that's where I got mine from).
  16. I managed to get my Rainsport 2's fairly cheap at £60 each incl fitting at my local tyre place, they always seem to give me a good deal though Toyo's seem to get all the fuss and they are a reasonable tyre, but even if you can't find Uniroyal's for a better price they are still worth the few extra quid IMHO. I've heard nothing but good things about Vreidensteins too but believe they are similar price to Uniroyal's if not more expensive.
  17. The road noise is quiet, the feel through the steering wheel is one of the best I've experienced too. I've had Toyo's before and although they grip well they are too soft and wear too quickly for my liking. The grip in comparison to Uniroyal's in the dry is very similar but the extra grip in the wet from the Uniroyal's in the wet is something else.
  18. I've just put Uniroyal Rainsport 2's on mine for the first time and I'm very impressed. They replaced Eagle F1's and seem as good in in the dry and awesome in the wet (grip is lamost as high as when dry). In fact for the first time I know I'm going to put the same tyre back on again when its comes to renewal time
  19. My '04 vRS has just ticked past 83k, I've done 25k since I bought it last February.
  20. I just assumed the Fabia did use the two bolt strut to hub mounting
  21. Daft as it sounds, sometimes the plastic lever gets stuck (mine does anyway) so all it needs if for you to pop the bonnet using the interior lever and afterwards jiggle the bonnet/grille and the release lever 'should' pop out. Most likely due to the crap on the roads over winter casuing it to stick. When you get it open spray and work it a little with some WD40 or similar.
  22. I'd say they have a very good chance yes. If you do get some, make sure you ensure they are torqued up properly as they may require to belittle tighter than standard due to the tendancy to move slightly.
  23. Yeah I'll agree to agree I just didn't exactly follow your original post!
