Quick post to let you know how my 17705 problem got solved. I had a 17536 code coming up that didnt force the EML to come on, but after a few days, the ECU would put 17705 on, bringing the EML on. The fault was the MAF. Tried loads of other things, pressure test, breather hose etc and the MAF change was the only thing that cured it. This is 3 weeks later btw, so I'm pretty confident it has been cured.

Yay my 17705 if fixed! Thanks to a local VW garage It was the breather hose coming out of the top of the rocker cover, on the right. Not what I thought it would have been, but I know it was one of the possibilities. It was really really soft, and appeared to be clogged up. Anyone understand how that could have caused it?

Since my nearest Skoda dealer is 40miles away, Ive got my VRS booked in at a VW dealer on monday. Not gonna be cheap I guess, but at least they should know more than the last garage.

I think im gonna do what you did bjorn - where do you buy all that stuff from by the way? An internet site?

Can we get a list of possible causes of 17705 together, arranged by likelyness etc??

What have you done Darling ?

This really confuses me. If the problem is intermittant, I'd guess it not to be a leak, but a dodgy electrical connection. Hence a sensor or component like n249. Am I right? I'm an avionics tech by trade so I'm finding hard to get to grips with things that don't come in black boxes.

COuld you elaborate please, noob here Also, what sysmptons does having a dodgy MAF have? COuld it theoretically redust boost pressure?
-
Does MAF = MAP?
-
Its so frustrating because there are no VAG specialists around here (Morayshire). Anyone any recoomendations for what to change next? How much do these N249s and N75s cost?
-
The actual error codes I have atm (no EML light showing though): 17705: Connection Charger-Throtle valve. Pressure drop. 17536: Long term fuel trim multi bank 1 NB these were not done on VAGCOM, but some other generic garage diagnostic kit, but i assume they mean the same thing. As I stated, the smoke test didnt reveal anything, and I had the throttle body cleaned, but to no avail. Boost pressure is fine rarely, but mainly not. I have noticed that the large "Y-shaped" pipe coming out of the right of the rocker cover is very soft though. I read in another thread that its recommended that it is changed. Thats the next step ill go for. Agree? Are there any other things it could possibly be? I'm not brilliant with engines, especially turbos. Oh and what are exactly these n75's and n249's? Could someone please explain to me. Cheers Edit, the car is not remapped, but well it wasn't stated to me when I bought it a few weeks ago anyways.

I have exactly the same symptoms as you mate. The garage did a smoke test today but said they couldn't find anything.

Will a smoke test check for holes in turbo pipes?

Early reports from the garage are that the smoke test hasnt found any leaks. Anything else I can ask them to do? Are there any GOOD pictures that can help me locate suspect pipes as I've been finding it very hard to look for myself so far :( -
VRS Rough as a badgers bottom!

same code as me. I'm getting it in the garage today to have a pressure check and the throttle body cleaned. You have got exactly the same symptoms as me mate. I'll let you know what they find tonight. -

Im having the same probs, and after much searching it helps to get the throttle body cleaned and check turbo pipes for leaks.
