  1. There's a solenoid attached half way along the LH wing for collection of fumes, it taps every few seconds
  2. Had to get my Octavia windscreen replaced because of rain leaking in, the guy that did the replacement said it was an original window so it must have been like that since new.
  3. What's the use of putting plastic primer on top of exsisting paint?
  4. I made 4 wood blocks with a slot in and gave them to the tyre fitter before he started because the first time he folded the sills over with his ultra modern 4 point lift
  5. Off topic a bit, what sort of camers is it? its nice and clear. I was on Amazone and the reports were crap
  6. Myself and my neighbour had water coming in from a faulty windreen seal. on our old 04 Octavia, At first I thought it was the door seal but its dificult to see how rain can get through even without a seal. I thought they would have sorted water leaks by now. The padding is so sick under the drivers feet it only showed up as dampness on the mat, but after lifting the mat is was absolutely soaking wet
  7. I had a front windscreen leaking, this had been like it since new. Lots of water in the padding and carpet under my feet. you need to take the bottom trim off, and feel under the carpet. My next door neighbour had the same problem
  8. My Octavia 1 had a leak from the wiper motor, the screen washer fluid goes through the centre spindle and there is a micky mouse seal in the worm housing. I hope they fixed this before they designed the Octavia 2
  9. The washer water can leak past the seal inside of the wiper worm drive and prevent the parking switches etc from working. I dismantled mine and cleaned the switch unit underneath the worm drive.
  10. Thanks all for all the help that I received on the forum in the last couple of years; I just sold my 2003 Octavia, 1.4 petrol. Maybe I bought a bad one; I was wondering what would go wrong next and lost my trust in it. In two years I had 2 coil pack failures, a leaking windscreen, (which my neighbour also had) a door that refused to open, (which again my neighbour had) a headlight motor failure, rear wiper not parking, and the day that I was to exchange it, the heater blower motor failed, which I had to repair before exchanging. So I went Japanese. The car was little more than 4 year old when I bought it and I would have expected better, (my neighbours was a 06) On the plus side, it was doing up to 47 mpg on a run, I liked the huge boot, and it handled well, the dealer was great and tried to keep my cost down.
  11. iep. That makes some sense, but why did they not design the gearbox etc to take a higher manufacturer spec. so that they can map the car for best performance? that is what sells cars. I cannot see the manufacturer having say, a different basic gearbox design for all models. So a 1.4 should be able to be remapped or set to a higher spec relative to engine size than a remap on a 2.0 ltr. I also suspect mph would be an issue with a standard model.
  12. I may be a bit old fashioned here, but if a re-map is so good, why does the manufacturer not set it this way in the first place, when new.
  13. As an update which may help others with this problem. I noticed water dripping from the wiper motor housing, so I ruled out the relay. I removed and dismantle the wiper unit and motor. It was a mess inside with grease and water mixed. I removed the worm wheel gear unit, on the underside attached is the switch arrangement for the wiper parking, I cleaned everything and re-assemble (The motor is tricky) the leak is in a seal assembly on the end of the shaft for the washer. This is a crazy design and cannot work very well, it is dissapointing to think that this unit has probably not worked for more than a total of 2 hours through out the life of the car and failed. I wrapped PTFE tape on the shaft to help to seal, in case I decide to use the washer again, but for now I have disconnected the rear washer pipe at the pump under the bonnet, and will only use the wiper.
  14. I have just had a problem with my rear wiper, I dismantled the unit and cleaned it out, There is a seal that is an absolute stupid design and can allow the washer water to leak inside of the unit. I have my wiper working again but I have disconnected the washer at the pump under the bonnet, so as to prevent further problems with the wiper unit. If I could find a grommet I may remove the wiper altogether.
