  1. the rubber has already bunched up, i was tempted to attack it with a stanley knife!
  2. on my Mk2 Octie VRS TDI (57 plate) the hand brake lever has become stiffer to operate. I had a look and the plastic cover that moves with the lever over the track has started to bunch up, pulling the brake on is ok, but releasing the lever requires some force to push the lever down. Anyone else had this? I dont see how you get to this piece of trim to rectify! Cheers Andy
  3. I`ve got a 57 plate Octavia VRS (2.0TDI PD) and just called to book in the 2nd service (variable servicing) at 4 years old and 27k miles. The garage said standard service, plus brake fluid (every 2 years) and MOT, then said they checked the service requirements and said its due a cambelt, at 4 years. I just checked the service schedule with the hand book and this says: "In addition every 150 000 km - replace toothed belt (diesel engines)" for the 4 year service it just says "Inspect condition and tension of ribbed v-belt" whats the really story here, have VAG/Skoda changed the cambelt service internal, or just the garage trying it on?! Cheers, Andy
  4. excellent, i had hoped it would be simple.... many thanks
  5. on a 57 plate octie vrs, how are the reflectors in the bumper fitted? I've cracked one and need to replace, is it an easy diy job? Cheers, andy
  6. looks like take the screw out and then un-clip the clips, i assume its just a case of pulling on the panel at the right spot... from searching on here the rattle is common, probably one of the clips being loose....
  7. Octavia 2 - VRS - 57 Plate. Car had its first service last week, at which the dealer "fixed" a fault rear washer. Since then there has been a rattle from inside the trim panel on the boot lid, mainly when opening and closing the boot. Sounds like a screw, or washer rattling around. How do i take the trim panel off as I cant be bothered to waste an hour or so driving back to my local dealer. I have undone the hex screw by the pull handle, didnt help much. Any ideas? Cheers! Andy
  8. We`ve just swapped our Fabia VRS for an Octie II VRS TDI (2007 PD engine) to cater for the impending birth of our first child (apparently we needed more space!) We like the look of the Maxi-Cosi Cabrio Seat, which attaches to the Maxi-Cosi Easyfix (ISO) seat base, as this inter-works with the push chair system we have spotted. Just wanted to check if anyone else has one of these fitted in the back with the ISO fittings, to make sure it`ll go in ok. From reading other threads sounds like you can get seat protectors to cover the fancy VRS back seats, any recommendations for these? Cheers Andy (and Emma (and bump))
  9. RED - i always thought the detailing is a little lost on the black cars as you cant make it out from a distance, could just be a normal fabia..... silver is tooo common and yellow to in ya face... but at the end of the day the colour isnt important, I agree the best colour is the one you choose and once you have driven it around you`ll know the best place to view a fabia vrs from is the drivers seat!
  10. i`m sure this question has been answered before, but might be worth adding to this article .... for a standard Fabia VRS what impact does the PD160 intake pipe actually have.... impacts to actual MPG and performance figures as well as "feel" when driving... should the air filter be replace with a performance one at the same time? I like the look of this mod as it isnt obvious so shouldnt be noticeable to someone when selling if you dont want to mention it.... but could change the feel of the car....
  11. just called my 3 closest dealers for a 40k mile 2 year service, including brake fluid change.... A = £300 B = £387 C = £422 I know which one I am booking in with, but I`m surprised how much they differ by.... if i`m happy with the cheaper one I`ll give them a good review here on the forum....
  12. have got the same on my VRS (RED August 2004 car) about the same state as Mort's in the picture. I`m coming up to my 40k service so will get my dealer to check it out then. my concern is whether a re-spray will necessarily sort it out long term, is it going to be as bad in another 2-3 years and then be out of warrenty? plan to keep the car for a couple more years.... since i cant come up with anything better to own!
  13. anyone used Whitequay in Reading for servicing..... they any good?
  14. i wasnt happy with the 30k which is why i`m on the look out for another dealer in my area. they said it needed the inspection, even tho i asked for just the oil change on the high mileage service schedule that the Glos dealer did for me. They said it needed the inspection and i stupidly agreed as i thought my mileage would go down to a 10k a year average, so it wouldnt be back for another year. they also tried to get me to have the brake fluid done at the 30k but i refused that one. does it really need doing to 2 years as well as the coolant, not sure i noticed that in my service schedule book! i think the 40k is going to hurt, and i need a couple of front tyres too, though 40k out of a set of tyres cant be too bad!
