  1. Ditto to seized mechanism. Easy job to replace, but a bit pricy- even from a VAG trade outlet. Hope its the fuse then...
  2. Thanks Karl, exactly the same thing. BTW my Octy came from your neck of the woods. Don't know exactly what it was used for tho'... perhaps this panel will come off... what does a Walther PPK look like?
  3. Yep, what I've bin advised, and mine is a loverly cherry red- tastes **** tho'!
  4. I've notice that the revs seem to drop off slightly when accelerating, esp. out of corners or roundabouts, most often in 3rd..., then pick up again. Is this the Haldex clutch kicking in or something more sinister, like the main clutch or gearbox playing up? Or the bloody air sensors? I've no clutch slip otherwise:confused:. It's a 53 4x4 132k. Any bright suggestions much appreciated. Only fault code I've got is ? exhaust air sensor but don't see how it could be that...
  5. Sport Contacts, much better than previous Good Year NCTs, on me 4x4 Turbo. Excellent cornering and quiet too:thumbup:
  6. 132k on my ex police, 53 4x4 Octy, some niggly stuff going on, air con flap motor, ? sensor probs, ? 3rd gear issues, one new wheel bearing, usual coil pack stuff... not bad, but not as good as my elderly Carina diesel, sold to a mate now got 150k and only a new radiator ('98 R)
  7. Thanks Bodge, I'll get to it, the kids have smaller hands... and anyway, you can't put them up chimneys now!
  8. I also have the 'pulsing' air-con, even with air-con off. no idea wot it is either. and 'the mouse in the glovebox' to- there was a rather funny thread about that a while ago...several folk, including me, thought it was a rodent!
  9. When you buy a car which is new to you, it takes a while to get used to the noises it makes. Like the mouse in the glove box ( air con :P). Our high milage Octy was full of them. But one got steadily louder. And louder. And eventually I took it to the local bloke who's not too heavy on the pocket usually, who diagnosed a wheel bearing shot. Fair nuff. Not big money, he said. But... Bearing had welded itself to hub, big bang:eek:...£376 inc vat, for a £20 bearing...don't put it off, get it done now!:(
  10. best I can get is 41mpg - the engine is loose at 124,000, but more usually 34-38mpg. I wondered about ditching the drive to the rear wheels?
  11. my local tool shop offered me a Sealy862 VAG code reader for £176 recently. Anyone rate this or got any views?
  12. Ta...checked out and resoldered but still up the creek! Mmmm...some copper has left a CD in the magazine...might just have to trash the player...shame really. Might have been water damaged- wee puddle inside bulkhead where changer mounted and foam wrap round connection block wet.
  13. Any ideas how to check if the cd player is working? Head unit says it's not connected and the changer won't even eject. Is it even worth the bother? What are the pin identities on the changer connection? Any help greatfully appreciated by fairly newbie.
  14. Thank *****(please insert name of favourite deity)- thought the anti-psychotic medication wasn't working...I'm not hearing things! Convinced it was a mouse, wifey heard it too...so can't be mad again, phew! We're not alone. BTW, anyone been abducted by aliens recently? Just wondered...
  15. My mechanic is happy for me to supply parts as he adds 10% to what he supplies. Not all are. Local motor factor quotes £115 for a good Gates powergrip kit. Just got a Folletts German, w/p looks excellent quality. 2.5-3hrs approx.
