  1. I was thinking about getting some of these - has anyone tried them yet? Cheers, Balham
  2. Well, I have just traded in the Octy for a VW Touran Sport (170PS) with DSG. Fitted 3 seats across the back nicely and was "OK" to drive, although I guess comparing to the VRS it was never going to stand up
  3. I've currently got an Octy, but a new arrival to the family means that I'm going to have to (very reluctantly) sell soon. Were you able to get 3 child seats in the middle row of seats? I've been looking at a Superb but don't think there's quite enough room unfortunately. So, I'm now looking at the Touran Sport with a diesel engine, but from what i can see the 170bhp only comes with the dreaded DPF (we do a lot of short journeys). Am I right in thinking that the PD doesn't have the DPF? Did the 140 have enough oomph to keep you happy? Many thanks for any pointers!
  4. Has anyone tried the website that says "they will buy any car".com (trying not to name names!)?
  5. for those with younger children... at what age did you remove the back of the booster seat so they are just sitting on a booster cushion? My lad is 5 and I'm thinking of keeping him with the back on the booster seat for a while longer, but my wife says she sees "loads" of kiddies on the school run where they just sit on the base alone. I like the idea of having the side impact protection on the head but maybe it's no longer required?? cheers
  6. I am also in practically exactly the same situation! Eldest is 5 and in booster seat in the front (airbag disabled). Then have 2 year old in back seat front-facing, wife in middle, and 3 month old in rear facing the the back seat. It's just about managebale for now, but resigned to getting a new car when baby moves up to forward facing seat. Had a look in Superb about 6 months ago, and while there is stacks of legroom it's not a massive amount wider. Don't really want an MPV if possible, so will probably start looking at 4X4's later this year.
  7. When I bought the car a couple of years ago I put ZZ3's on the front. After about a year the car was pulling to the left so had full 4 wheel alignment done. This didn't show any issues, but swapping the ZZ3 for older Contis at the back solved the problem. I personally won't be buying them again, but I know others think they are great!
  8. Hello all, In recent foggy weather I discovered that the front fog lights aren't working (not completely necessary, I know, but it's nice to have them working since the are on the car!). The headlights are working, as are the rear fogs, so does anyone have any pointers of what I should look out for? I have a 56 plate Octy VRS and have consulted the user manual but I can't find which fuse relates to the front fogs? Many thanks.
  9. Hello all, I've currently got an Octy VRs, very happy with it but with a 3rd child on the way later this year there won't be quite enough room. I have one in booster seat, one in forward facing and will have a rear facing one in October as well. Does anyone currently manage to squeeze all of this into the rear of the Superb, or alternatively 2 in rear with room for missus in the middle? I had a look in showroom yesterday and it seems a tad wider than the Octy (but *loads* of legroom!). Thanks, Balham
  10. Any more dads out there with experience of having 3 kiddies in the car (3 in back, or 1 in front and 2 in back with adult)? I only bought the car a couple of years ago and not keen to get rid of it just yet! Cheers, Balham
  11. Hello all, Well, I've got a 5 year old and 2 year old at the moment with a booster seat (with headrest) and front facing Isoifx seat respectively. We've just found out that we have a third on the way - has anyone managed to fit in a rear facing isfox seat and two front facing seat in the back of their Octy? I've had a quick look at it seems the isofix seats will have to be at each side with the booster seat in the middle... looks like it could be a squeeze though! Any experience on here would be much appreciated... is it time to fork out on an MPV?? Saw a Zafira VXR the other day that looked quite interesting! Cheers.
  12. Yup, I also find it bizarre that factory fitted optional extras must be declared as modifications. When I insured with More Than they were only inetrested in mods that "increased top speed, acceleration or power", so tinted windows and 18" wheels weren't a worry.
  13. My car was registered on 29/11/06 so I expected that the free Skoda Assist would expire this week as the car is rapidly approaching 3 years old. However, when I phoned Skoda Assist they informed me that my membership is not due to expire until March 2010?! I asked them to double-check and explained about my registration date but was assured it's valid for another 3 months. While I'm very grateful for this, I don't want to be caught short if I need to call them out between now and March only to be told that my membership is no longer valid! Has anyone else experienced this?Cheers,Balham
  14. So in other words go with Skoda Assist regardless? My 3 years is also up shortly and I shall definitley be giving them a call. Cheers.
  15. Stating the obvious but I assume your seat isn't ISOFIX compatible?
  16. I think you will also find that the free Skoda Assist will also run out so you'll need to ensure that you are covered for roadside breakdown etc (mine also hits 3 years next month, will follow the tip about getting an early MOT). Cheers, Balham
  17. Yup I just read the Auto Express tests and they didn't fare amazingly well (different results for what was supposed to be the same bulb!). Philips X-treme is it then...
  18. What's the general consensus on the Halfords Super Brilliance or Extreme Brilliance bulbs? I'm looking at changing the dipped beam only (H7) and wonder if these ones are much different from the Philips X-treme? Cheers, Balham
  19. Looks like some eejit has opened their car door onto mine in Sainsbo car park and managed to put a scratch on passanger door. It's not massive, but now I know it's there it's annoying me. I've read a couple of threads about some scratches can just be polished it - is it really as simple as that?! I'm also looking to get some touch up paint from local dealer as I've heard that if you apply with cocktail stick you can just fill in very small amounts. Is it worth trying out t-cut on it as well?? Any tips for a novice much appreciated.
  20. I can definitley recommend Progress in Letchworth... always been very professional in my dealings with them. Cheers, Balham
  21. I bought some Avon ZZ3's for the front about a year ago. Had problems recently with the car pulling to the left, had 4 wheel geometry checked and it's all fine. Tyre centre suggested putting the Avons on the back and now I have Continentals on the front (about half worn) which has made things much better. Providing the same tread pattern is on both sides of the axle I think it's OK (sure someone will correct if I'm wrong). To be honest I'm hoping for a big puncture at the rear when the fronts need replacing so I have an excuse to change all 4 as well! Cheers, Balham
  22. Well, I'm glad to say my faith in humanity is restored. It turns out the missus bumped into the neighbours on Friday and mentioned to them that some gits had scratched our car and scarpered. I was in the garden earlier today thinking about going next door later and the neighbour poked her head over the fence. She said "We've had a look at our car and noticed the blue paint on the scratches, so it must have been us who did it although we honestly didn't know. You should be able to park your car safely on your driveway, so once you've got it repaired give us the bill and we'll sort it out". Nice to see there are still some decent people out there
  23. That has crossed my mind! Just been outside, and in the light of day I can see some race blue paint transfer on their silver car (been watching CSI Miami to brush up on my skills). WIll knock on their door later to see what they have to say,,,
