  1. Hi guys, Thanks for the help. I've had a llook under the car, it does seem quite rusty under there! I've called my local skoda dealership, and their part was coming in at £53 with the clamp (the joining section) and £43 odd without it. I asked why it was more expensive, and gave him the part number quoted above, and he said there was no way he could do it at that price :( Tom, are you saying the bores on all of the petrol models are the same, and it is only the diesel which is diferent[yet still the same shape] except the tail section? if so, would this part fit? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Exhaust-Centre-Pipe-Silencer-Muffler-Skoda-Felicia-II-/310240883074?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item483bcc3182 you can't really go of the pictures, however this item form the same seller has different specs, and a picture showing where it would bold onto the cat' http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Exhaust-Centre-Pipe-Silencer-Muffler-Skoda-Felicia-1-3-/200516029414?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2eafafcbe6 my guess is the first one, am I right? I'll ring around local motor factors today. thanks again for the help!
  2. Hey guys, After succesfully replacing a full thermostat housing, flushing cooland and re-filing with no issues, I'm feeling slightly more confident about working on my Fun. The middle section of the exhaust needs replacing. Gun Gum isn't cutting it anymore, and surly excess gum will fail an MOT? I should be able to get the part fairly cheap, but how are these to fit? I've had a quick look underneath, and they don't 'seem' to be welded in, but I could be wrong. I can either take it to a garage to get it done, try it myself, or see if a more savvy freind can do it. I'm properly skint, so if I can do it myself, I will! will it be impossible to do it on my drive with only axle stands at my disposal? The back section is fine by the way, it's fairly recent. cheers, Rick [edit] which part do I need for the fun? is the middle section the same on all felicias?
  3. I might turn up if I can spare the fuel. I'm from sunderland but I'm at uni in Bolton, which is 27 mile away. how many Fun's get to this meet? RIck
  4. Earth is a rather large place, could you narrow your location down a little? they often come up on ebay.
  5. The lights dim as the revs drop below it's idle speed (as getting used to the car, not putting enough gas on) but the altenator was replaced on 1/12/09 (looking at the invoice for it now) the bill was £293 for the part and fitting! that sounds a bit steep! poor previous owner :(
  6. ha ha... no mate, not a chance stereo will be sensible, well balanced sound. nothing daft no chance of chav exhaust either. I've just fitted a custom 'gun-gum' system to mine made it much quieter. What's the voltage regulator you 1.3 boys are always talking about? is that an added part, or is it somehting already on there that needs replacing? please elaborate.
  7. And Laura is over the moon with it by the way getting up early tomorrow to attack it with soapy water and hoovers etc it's her first car, so getting her off to the right footing - keep it clean
  8. 650, he wouldnt budge (partly due to his original asking price of £800... must have had that in his mind the whole time.
  9. I started with the vax on mine. sucked about 2 litres out but it's just pointless, you need to pullt he underlay out, hang it ont he line to drip dry then bring it inside to dry. The underlay holds an astonishing amount of water. no matter how much you can hoover out, hair-dryer out etc you're not even close to getting it dry. the carpets have a kind of semi-fibre glassed backing which means the water can't really surface and evaporate, it gets stuck in the underlay with no escape.
  10. Hi guys Thanks for all the pointers, We went to see the car and ended up buying it. I knew about all of the leaking problems from my own, so knoew where to look. It's all bone dry (for now) theres a vew issues, some I knew before even looking at it would be dodgy - thermostat and or temp sensor (saw that one coming) ! and theres maye 2 switches that need replacing: - heater switch (controls speed of fan 1 -4) this only works on setting four. (full) not a huge deal, I'm sure that will be fairly straight forward. - light stalk ont he steering wheel, does not 'flash' the full beams in the usual way, that does not work. but pushing the stick away still turns on the full beams. - light between revs and speedo does not indicate when he dipped beams are on or not (again, this is not a massive issue as its obvious when they're on or off. slightly tappetty, possibly needs valve clearences doing? or perhaps just needs an oil top up (not had the chance to fully check the oil level as it's never been cold and flat when I've seen it) it will be going in for a new stat and or temp sensor this week, it was serviced in november but I will give it a once over tomorrow, and ask the garage (I'm back home so have a friendly garage contact this time!) to give it a once over too. is there anythign else to have done while it's in? thanks guys, now my girlfriends for a skoda! ha ha p.s I *think* that the headlight adjustment might still work but will check this... what are the chances of that!?
  11. HI guys, I own a felicia fun, so as far as the 'front bit' is concerned I know the main parts to look at, but this one is a 1.3, and a hatchback, so different kettle of fish 52,000 miles, S reg, service receipts, 11 months Mot, 5 months Tax, PAS, central locking, stereo, alloys, spare key, He's wanting £795 ONO. Strieks me alread as a bit high, but no one pays the asking price do they? Goingto look at it tomorrow morning, so if there are any specific 1.3 GLI things to look for let me know. I've been flicking through the haynes having a look in the mean time. The only thing that concerns me without seeing it is the price. cheers, Rick
  12. Hey mate, the cattlemarket pub is at the entrance to my halls of residence. What's your friends garage called? can you point it out on google maps? (there's tons of garages round here - needle in a hay-stack) I had it MOT'd at the fuel injection centre on Thynne street - mainly becuase I can see it out of my window and could keep an eye on them! they were okay, but probably won't have any more work done there. Tom - not confident enough to do it myself, plus I'm in student halls and have hardly any tools with me, only small screwdrivers :( I don't think I'd even have the right kind of tools at home to be honest. it's got about 122k miles on it by the way.
  13. Hey Guys, Just moved down to Bolton for uni, had to get my fun MOT'd on wednesday - IT PASSED ! and the garage I took it to seemed 'okay' but they're reluctant to give full quotes for anything. It's due a timing belt, so was wondering - 1. what should I expect to pay for parts + labour (all in) 2. do I need belt + tensioner, or just belt? 3. anywhere in bolton worth looking to? (i'm right in the centre - orlando area) student budget chaps usually get work done at home with a friends garage, so get friends prices. never really had to pay full price so don't know what to expect. cheers, Rick
  14. The wheels are almost beyond reasonable repair, I think they're due refurbishment but that's not on the cards at the moment so I just cleaned them as best as I could. looks like a black wheel with yellow dirt doesn't it! I'm using a strong mix of bilberry and various brushes almost.... heavy pitting is the only thing letting them down. The arches had a similar treatment: all that was left was to dress the tyres as they're looking pretty grey here :( I had nothing left to do it with as my brother had cleared out my supplies so I headed over to north east detailing for a look about... pics later though. so far so good, but more to come. I'll get some better pictures later as these are just snap shots really. it's not picking up the two tone paint or anything :( thanks Ricky Doodles p.s next on the list is: leather restoration 35-40mm lowering pickup bed cover
  15. hey guys, this was originally intended for a detailing ( obsessive compulsive car cleaning forum lol) so excuse all of the words.... just thought I'd share the fruits of my labour: Hi guys, I've just got it back from the body shop, after having a lot of little bits and pieces fixed, and some damage repaired. I used to look after it, and keep it spotless until I had a run in with a low wooden post, then I started to neglect it... so back from the body shop and I'm happy as larry! It was damaged for a while and I have not got one single picture, not even an accidental picture or one on my phone of it... I was pretty unhappy about the whole thing to be honest lol. It came back with some of the usual things you would expect - areas of light overspray, dust and so on. My plan was this: 1. power wash 2. 2BM wash with wash mit 3. rinse 4. clay 5. machine polish to remove swirls and some marring / holograms 6. wax 7. interior detail 8. wheel detail products used were Washing: microfibre noodle mit, turtlewax shampoo (yea I know... I've got a lot to use up though!) polishing: clarke multi speed rotary polisher with screwfix extra soft pad. Menzerna 85RD Wax: Chemical guys XXX Hardcore others: Bilberry wheel cleaner, Poorboys Bold n Brite tyre + trim dressing, various megs products including quick detailer, speed detailer, clay bar, microfibre, trim *stuff* ( gold class new look trim type stuff, I dont like it at all :( ) unfortunatly this car was not looked after by the single previous owner. I'm slowly fixing everything that was spoiled. He was a landscape gardener, so when I first got it it was covered in resin, thousands of chips (from being close to a strimmer?) and the interior was just disgusting! This is how it started off, pretty clean from the body shop: The roof rack was past it's best really. I never use it and the paint was chipped, faded and looking a bit sorry for it's self. I took all of the parts off and took them into my workshop for a respray. I managed to get it all done in a day: 2k primer, basecoat, and 2k clear - ready to put back on the car the following day. I could not decide whether to paint them black or 'fun gelb' at first. and on the car: there was not much to see with regards to washing and claying, It was already pretty clean. so I moved onto the machining. swirls were really bad. a few spots of RDS on the bonnet, but I'm replacing it with an airbrushed counterpart very soon so I'm not too worried about the RDS for now. It's also badly chipped too. I'm polishing using Menzerna 85RD on a screwfix direct red foam 6" pad. I quite like these pads, I use them a lot for the final polish on my airbrushed / custom painted stuff, but I've never used them with menzerna - I'm very impressed with this stuff! (Buffing / Polishing Sponge Pad 150mm M14 Red - Screwfix.com, Where the Trade Buys) Before: After: The top edge had not been done yet - just where the sun is reflecting really. Removing some of the tape: next step was the chemical guys hard core xxx wax. these types of waxes are quite new to me, so I went for the cheapest wax with the best reviews. I applied it by hand and buffed it with microfibre. A fairly painless process as it was quite easy to buff. Check out the beadage - on my hand So far: I was very happy with the finish at this point. I'm saving the rest of the interior for another day as I plan on restoring the leather, which is completely shot (being yellow :() I cleaned and hoovered it in the usual way, nothing much to see really as again - it was already fairly clean. I finally sussed out how to clean the grey rubber surrounds though! I used a brass wire brush to clean them. I know what you're thinking - but being hard rubber, it did not scratch, or receive damage from the brush. it just flexed and let me get at all the dirt that a normal plastic brush just would not touch. 50/50:
