  1. Thanks guys, I'll bear all this in mind when I'm able to get out on a long speedy drive. I have to say though that my Yeti used to manage to get into 6th, the highest gear, at moderate speeds. I'm also pretty sure I was able to put it into 6th manually at 40mph, or thereabouts. So far, I've been unable to do that in the Karoq.
  2. I see various articles that say my newly acquired Karoq, first registered in Feb 2020, has either 6 or 7 gears - which is it? Due to Covid semi-isolation, I've hardly driven the car since I got it 2 weeks ago, but so far I've only seen it show gears 1 to 5, and this is in conditions where my Yeti would be go into 6th gear. The Karoq has various modes as I'm sure you know, but I tried them all and it won't go beyond 5th - any ideas?
  3. About to trade in my dear Yeti for a Karoq. I suspect not, but will the Skoda roof bars from my Yeti fit the Karoq?
  4. Interesting but, if that had anything to do with my Bolero problem, I think my Skoda dealer would have found it. Apologies for not posting earlier but, after further investigation, my dealer got Skoda UK to supply a free replacement Bolero and fitted it free. Glad I voted Skoda!
  5. They seem to be focussing on a new 7-seater, which I don't need. Where are the speculations on here - is there a forum/topic that covers that?
  6. I might change to petrol for my next Yeti if there was a suitable 4-wheel drive petrol DSG model. As far as I can see, there is no such model - anyone disagree?
  7. FYI: To supply and fit a new Bolero = £815 which, considering it does so much less than the Kenwood, is no bargain! I may be a bit jaundiced about the Bolero considering that the one supplied with the car failed at 3 years 1 month. Hence I had to pay 25% of the cost. The replacement Bolero failed recently at 2 years 1 month with exactly the same fault - and the guarantee ran out at 2 years! So I'm considering getting an aftermarket unit fitted, but perhaps not the Kenwood DNX521DAB?
  8. I haven't investigated behind the unit yet. I have tried to get Skoda UK to say they will give me a discount on another Bolero since the replacement is just out of the 2 year warranty, and I believe both failures are identical. However, they will not commit to anything unless I get their formal diagnostic test done, which is £90+VAT. The full cost of a new Bolero including fitting would be £815, so the discount would have to be more than 10% to counteract for the testing cost. It appears I can get an aftermarket unit to fit, with colour screen and GPS, for around £240. e.g. http://www.eonon.co.uk/Specific-Car-GPS/D5153ZE.html They say it preserves all the ancillary Bolero functions, such as air-con and reversing sensor display. Does anyone have experience of using aftermarket radios in a Skoda?
  9. My manual just says Radio against fuse 8. Anyway, removing fuse 8 stopped the current drain.
  10. No crash damage, and Skoda Dealer says it is the radio. Current drain was confirmed as through fuse 8, which is the radio.
  11. I've now had two Boleros that fail and cause high battery drain. I've updated my thread on the failure of the original Bolero, which was almost exactly 2 years ago, at http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/292656-current-leakage-in-bolero. Apologies for raising it as a new topic, but I'm keen to find out if anyone else has had the same Bolero issue. Just had the replacement radio fail in exactly the same way, draining the battery via Fuse 8 as it did two years ago! The first symptom is that the Bolero screen continues to display, including air-con info, but it does not work as a radio. The battery is flat the next day. My Skoda dealer has (again!) confirmed the radio is faulty and is the cause of the battery drain. They believe the car is just beyond the age at which Skoda are likely to fund a discount on the parts and labour. I'm about to contact Skoda, but would be grateful for information from anyone who has had the same radio problem.

  13. No problem since new radio was fitted, so it's clear that the radio did drain the battery. Note: this was a faulty radio!
  14. 1) Bolero stopped working as a radio; all other functions including touch-screen working fine. This lasted for 5 days. 2) Turned on ignition and radio works! Attempted to start car - display says "please put into park or neutral", which it already is, and refuses to start. 3) AA called out - measures battery voltage at 11.5V, which explains why I can't start the engine. Boost used to start car - battery and alternator are fine. Detects current drain from battery higher than normal (0.2 to 0.6A) with everything off. Removes fuses one at a time including those under the bonnet - removing fuse 6 (instrument cluster) or 8 (radio) reduces current drain to normal level. Leaves fuse 8 out. 4) Book into garage for 1 week hence. Meantime, car starts fine but I'm missing the radio! 5) Garage detects fault in radio and fits replacement Bolero the next day. Car is just out of warranty by 1 month - so thankfull that Skoda agree to discount Bolero cost of £629+VAT by 75%!! Garage also discounts labour charges. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had this problem.
