  1. Is the PAS pump on the Octy1, the same as the MK4 Golf? From other threads here it appears that the steering rack is the same - although that's no reason the pump would be
  2. the socket trick might work. banging a chisel in also might do it?
  3. Don't think the Gator would work as the splines are inside the nut and the outside of the nut is round? But then I don't have a Gator and have never used one (but I have seen a picture of one)
  4. What can I do (apart from weep) to get an alloy wheel locking wheel nut off that has no splines on it? SUggestions very welcome as the tyre needs replacing Thanks
  5. Sunny Sunday so instaleld the motor. Getting the scuttle off was the hardest part (amanged to crack it but not too bad. Put the new motor on and it worked OK apart from a regular clonk. Then I made the mistake of uninstalling it all to see what the clonks was. Bad move coz when I re-installed it, I don't think the motor was in its Park position so when I tested it, the wipers tried to sweep down adn I think I have burn't out my new motor :( Drilled out the rivets in the old one and cleaned the copper contacts in it and bent them "on" a bit. Drilled out the empty bolt holes and secured it again with self tappers. This time I carefully re-installed and it all works OK - so far....... At least it didn't rain
  6. OK. Thanks for the advice. Just need the interminable rain to stop :(
  7. thanks - good advice. i guess i could connect the new motor and operate the wipers for one sweep then the motor should be in the right position?
  8. OK. I think I tried that but with no joy. Will have another go when (if) the rain ever stops :(
  9. i'm going to fit a new motor but Haynes talks about aligning the motor spindle with the linkage when you remove the (old) motor. How do I ensure a new (unmarked) motor aligns correctly with the old linkage?
  10. I have same problem. 1999 Octavia. locks ok (pin 2) but won't unlock (pin 4). Unit/earthing is OK because if i put white/black wire from unit to pin 2(lock) it locks when i press the unlock button on my fob. any ideas?
