  1. I’m sure Elaine and the boys will be comforted to know how much Andy was liked and how many friends he had.
  2. No problem, I’ll pass them on. In fact, if anyone wishes to send a card, pm me for my address and I’ll pass them on to Elaine.
  3. Hello all, I'm sorry to tell you that Andy has passed away. I spoke to his wife earlier this afternoon and she’s asked me to post a brief message here. He had been suffering with prostate cancer. His final days were in St Catherine’s Hospice in Scarborough, and he passed quietly with his wife and sons beside him. The family will be raising funds for the hospice so when I get details of that I’ll post them here. I’m sure there will be a few who’d like to donate. Edit: It is possible to donate directly to the hospice here: https://my.saintcatherines.org.uk/donate.aspx Edit again: if anyone would like to send a card to his family, please pm me. I live in the same village so can pass them on to Andy’s wife. Martin
  4. Not really Thanks for this, but I loathe all of Google’s user interfaces! as for Ken’s suggestion, I’ve never set up an email server and don’t know how!
  5. Thanks Mike. i don’t want my own domain name. Ideally I’d keep my current email address, but basically transfer the storage of the emails from the ISP to somewhere with more space. I don’t at present have a device I could use as a server. So I can get my email from myisp.net to be accessed via gmail?
  6. Hi, I access my personal emails on several devices (Mac, iPad, iPhone, watch etc) and I want the email to by synchronised across them all. My current email provider has only a small email space I can use, so unless I regularly use a web browser to access the mailbox and clear out, the mailbox fills up and I can’t get new emails. I have my email set up so that it stays on the server as that’s the only way I’ve found for the email to stay aligned across multiple devices. I think the only way I can get around the size limitation and keep them synchronised is to set up my own email server, and then point all the devices at that. What’s the best or cheapest way of doing that? Is there an Apple device that does this out of the box? Like the Airport for example? I don’t really want all my emails to be on one single local device though as if that fails I’ve lost them all. I know my way around PCs and to a lesser extent, Macs but I’ve never set up an email server before. Is it easy? thanks, Martin
  7. Currys told me the other day when they delivered a tumble dryer that they're having problems getting stock imported.
  8. Hi. Bit of an odd one I'm hoping has a simple fix! Son has a 2009 Ford Fiesta. The interior fan has no oompf at all. I was expecting this to be a failed switch when he told me about it (I had a Fabia with that problem once) but the fan definitely moves at four distinct rate, but there's very little air flow. Would a blocked pollen filter (assuming it has one) cause this? Because if it's a blocked interior duct then I don't fancy taking the dash out to look for the problem! thanks all Martin
  9. Hi all, after a long hiatus! (Haven't had a Skoda in the family since 2016 unfortunately) My mother in law, on the other hand, has a 2015, low mileage Citigo. One of the rear doors has decided not to lock itself when the central locking is set. On a higher mileage car, especially if it was the driver's door, I might consider a broken wire between the body and the door, but it seems unlikely with a car with less than 30 000 miles on it? Has anyone else seen this and if so how did you fix it? thanks, Martin
  10. Yes I'm in agreement. We've just got it home and there's definitely no blanking plate.
  11. Hi all My daughter's bought a 62 plate Up. It must be the base model because the dash doesn't have the cutout for the PID. What other options have you tried for bluetooth/music etc (other than the obvious AUX input) thanks, Martin
  12. Update: Got a full refund on the purchase price, settled very amicably.
  13. So it turns out that the V5 does indeed say "this vehicle has been salvaged because of structural damage, but it has been declared suitable for repair following a technical evaluation"
  14. My daughter bought a car just before lockdown from a trade seller. I had it valued on Saturday as she’s considering changing it, only to discover it was written off last year. We were not informed of this when we bought it, and paid a decent retail value for it. Am I correct in thinking it’s an offence to sell a write off without informing the buyer? The seller says they didn’t know it was a write off, and said they’d HPI checked it before selling it, but have agreed that it is now registered as a write off. My daughter has covered 1500 miles in it since buying it. They have offered a full refund if we buy another car from them, or a “mileage allowance” off the purchase price if we just hand the car back, a difference of about £300 less than we paid. Would it be unreasonable to ask for a full refund?
  15. Thanks for that. I've had a look and there's just a hole there. i guess the mirror was replaced and they didnt replace the sensor?
  16. All the wing mirror references seem to be for the Focus? I’ll have a dig next week.
  17. Try looking at the title of the post 😂 although to be fair I didn’t mention the year. It’s a 2011 so mk2.
  18. hi, my daughter’s car’s temp gauge has stopped working. Does anyone happen to know where it is? Google is split between it being in either of the mirrors, or in the front bumper? thanks, Martin
  19. Text ideally, as a lot of the time the environment is noisy.
  20. Hi, Workwise, I need to take a lot of photos on site, and annotate them with comments. It wouldn't be unusual to take 400 odd pictures. I've tried using oneNote on a Surface tablet, and the Notes app on an iPhone. Neither really fit the bill, as the end result is that the photos are imported into a word document as thumbnails for a report. Word Mobile on the Surface allows photos to be directly inserted into a Word document, but it only keeps a really small version of the image. When I come to write the report (which could be weeks later) I'd like to be able to zoom in on the image to get the full resolution, but all I get with Word is the small image which is really pixellated when zoomed. OneNote, I've found, has a really horrible bug. If you insert too many images into a page, it refuses to sync. I've spent most of the day splitting out the photos from one page into several smaller ones, and it seems to be syncing now. 👿 Can anyone recommend something please that would work on a Surface tablet or an iphone/iPad?
  21. Short update: a GTX1070 was installed at Christmas, with great success! An SSD upgrade was also done at the same time..
  22. Hi, sorry for the delay, I’m not here often anymore. I got the monitor first to see, and it works ok for some games. I think a graphics card update will be needed but I haven’t popped the lid yet to have a look at the type of power supply yet. Thanks for your help though, I’ll be revisiting this in a couple of months. Martin
  23. It’s a 16 plate, so not new exactly, but only 30k miles, but are they not really mappable?
  24. Hi, I'm looking into the possibility of getting my Discovery Sport remapped. It’s the Ingenium 180hp diesel engine. Anyone know of a Disco having been done before? thanks Martin
