  1. First few weeks of ownership and can't really find any criticism!! Seat took a bit of adjusting before I felt comfy is probably the only thought!! It shifts as well!! The 320d that tried to jump me leaving the m6 toll has arude awakening
  2. My wife loves it more than me! (Chronic back pain means the higher position and heated seats much better for her!) I guess jealousy breeds insults!
  3. Thanks muddyboots! Have had one or two "you retired?" comments on Facebook (am 35) but having looked and Audi's, BMWs etc the 170 elegance seems to give much more bang for buck and if its as reliable as the Octavia I have as well, will be smiling for a long time to come!
  4. Car checked out fine. No sign of paint blisters anywhere. Clear plastic over rear arches in place and undersides look spotless. Worst part was a very long wait for the dealer to go through all the FCA mumbo jumbo. Can I afford to buy the car? Well I'm paying cash so....yes?? Maxidot showed 55mpg having crawled around GRIMsby then a decent lick back to Manchester. Taking into account optimistic electronics am still pretty happy with the first day of ownership!
  5. Hi. I'm putting a reserve on a 2012 12 plate 170 Elegance 4x4. Its a decent price/mileage. Candy White, plus front parking sensors & heated front screen (2 options that make it attractive!) Is there anything specific to look out for?? It's being sold by a (non Skoda) dealer i'm hoping it's at least not been cut & shut, but are there any tell tale sounds/feelings/issues to look for? Thanks!!
  6. Thx for all the responses!! @Wakev I think I was expecting to feel the acceleration more but guess that's the PD/CR comparison! I didn't really check the speedo!!
  7. The yeti I test drove was the 110bhp SE and felt dog slow!! The PD punch is certainly nice!! The smile factor seems to be a very common comment!! In regards remaps I looked at Celtic tuning for the Octavia but haven't bitten the bullet as the dmf is shaking a tiny bit. Any suggestions for what remap is best, taking into account improved economy being a key factor?! Thanks!!
  8. Hi, Just want to throw a question out there!! I have a 56 place Octavia 1.9 TDi Elegance thats done 140,000 miles now and shows no sign of stopping. The one thing that goes against it is that its not the best car for having "fun" in. Cruises up to and beyond the motorway limits quite happily and returns decent economy (have seen just shy of 800 miles on one tank of the black nozzle). Looking to keep the Octi for my wife to use (retiring her rather unreliable Fiesta) and adding a Yeti to the fleet. I do a lot of motorway driving (Manchester to London/East Anglia) with just me, and several annual trips to Ireland with the car packed full. So the Octi is a bit of a swissarmy knife for what we need it for and i don't want to get rid of it, but its just "boring" to drive!!! Access there are some compromises in terms of boot space and economy, but from what i have read (and the test drive we did) the Yeti seems a more relaxed car to be in, the height being a big advantage!! Looking at the 170 4x4 elegance to tick all teh boxes for toys/performance/handling (plus roof box for the occaisions where boot space runs tight!) Any thoughts?!! Real world economy of 45-50 seems achievable from what people say, and the boot just needs some thinking? Any regrets people have had about going for yeti over octavia? Thanks in advance!!
  9. I spend most of my driving going up and down the motorways around the country so the comfort/luxury takes over from the performance I would have a VRS if i wasn't doing 2000+ miles a month on the motorways!
  10. Auto-wipers Auto-dimming rear view mirror Headlight washers Parking Sensors Lots of audio input options. These are the things i would really miss in a new car
  11. There are so many factors that seem to come into it. External temperature. Over 20 deg I can get 75mpg on a motorway run.10 deg struggle to get 60 with the same driving. Tire pressures I know also play a big difference. A very light throttle, coasting etc will all add up. Makes for a very boring drive but if ur not rushing its worth it! I guess everyone gets use to the power delivery of their own engine too. The 105 is not fast so u don't get encouraged to thrash it in low gears but the torque in 5th is quite suprising. I had a 160 bhp insignia for 3 weeks as a hire car when the octi had a idiot neighbour smash into the front. It seemed incapable of getting over 50mpg even driven easy. In part I think because it had lots of power u just used it subconciously!
  12. The plan is to spend approx 12k for the newest lowest mileage. I'm 33 too silver 1011! Most driving is mway so good point about dead weight in 6th rainbowfire. 2.0 l&k manual does seem a good idea now. Pretty rare but worth it I think. A remap sorts the power out too if needed. The VRS looks the business but when ur inside and paying at the pumps it doesn't add up for what I need. Decision made! Thanks chaps
  13. I have run a 56 plate 1.9 TDI elegance for the past 5 years and am up to 105,000 miles. I do a lot of motorway miles for my job. Typically doing a steady ~60 simply to keep the cost of commuting as low as possible when i'm in the office and normal motorway speeds ~70 when visiting clients around the country. I can quite easily get 60-65mpg on a normal motorway run of ~200 miles (1 + junk in boot). My best yet is an average of 65mpg (dash computer) over a tank, which did me 785 miles. That was over 9 days doing 50mph tops behind trucks up and down the m61. A new job has seen significant more travel and a decent mileage rate, so i can enjoy driving again at "sensible speeds". Whilst i love the Skoda for its comfort and space its a bit sluggish on the the cross country A roads especially when overtaking and after having driven a focus previous for 150,000 miles, i miss the decent handling of a car. I would really like a VRS Estate next in racing blue but have the following questions. What does the VRS lose in terms of kit to the Elegance? As far as I can tell, the autowipers/dimming rear mirror Parking sensors Headlight washers. [*]Fuel economy. Is there anyone there who has tried a long economy run in a VRS? What realistically can you get when you drive with a sensible pair of trousers on?! ( I accept that its not going to be as good as the VRS, and i am sure i will enjoy driving the VRS, but just interested to know what is possible!!!) Would a 140 TDi Elegance remapped be a better option? To DSG or Not to DSG. I tend to run cars for as long as i can. There are loads of debates about the DSG gear box. Realistically i see 120-150,000 as the kind of mileage i'd like to get it to before considering replacing. I appreciate there are lots of different threads covering these topics, but just interested if there is anyone around with a similar experience who can offer some thoughts! Thanks
  14. Yes sorry! Good to hear about the CR engine. Going to be a long painful wait saving for the new one!! Cheers
