  1. Only problem with above is you may end up at White Dove in Cardiff! Capitol were always brilliant with me when car was under warranty. Now i tend to use Europerformance in Llantrissant. Good luck.
  2. Hi all, Anyone have any idea if this will ever be done with the mark 2. Just reading about the new 2.0 TDi Audi A1 (costing 22 grand!!!! and looking like one of my other halfs handbags). Quite fancy a new VRS - have driven the petrol version and though i like the way it drove, and i'm sure i'd get used to the DSG box - i'm just hankering after a diesel with a manual transmission, and the mcuh adord VRS badge on the grille
  3. TBH Hoping it's not the diff! Though did have this in back of mind Today noise is same however now seems related to road speed. Occurs above 30 and gets more intense (though no louder) as speed increases. Also i'm sire i can hear it during normal driving - in gear or not. Am thinking it might be wheel bearing, or possibly loose ARB bushes? Any of these likely? I've checked all the wheel bolts - no probs there. Cheers
  4. Hi, Been trawling the forums but can't find anything that matches the description of my problem. Basically when disengaging the clutch in gears 3,4 and 5, a strange noise is coming from the engine. Noise sounds a little like a flat tire i.e wub-wub-wub but with a much more mechanical sound. When new gear is engaged, noise disappears. If coasting the intensity of the noise decreases (ie starts fast and slows but does not disappear). Have tried to record the noise but can only hear it once driving. Unable to replicate noise otherwise. Car seems to be driving fine - 05 vrs with 90,000 on clock Any ideas?
  5. Hi, Hopefully you've managed to find somewhere, but just in case there's a cracking independant garage in Llantrissant - obviously you'd have to be a little committed to drive from Swansea area - called Europerformance. Gareth and James (who i think co-own the place) are both ex skoda. I've had new turbo, intercooler, uprated bushes, brake pads/discs, 3 services MOTs etc and all have been brilliant. Can be a little slow on the communication - but turning up to a properly valeted car is always nice. no courtersy car though which is a bit of a downside if travelling. Tom
  6. had the same with my vrs. Fairly common (I think) problem and indicates front console bushes need replacing.Had mine done last week squeak has now gone. Cost £138 at a german car specialist. The local skoda garage quoted £350! The garage were fairly impressed that i had not needed the OEM bushes changed before bearing in mind i've just sailed past 90,000 miles. Took the opportunity of fitting the uprated bushes from the ibiza cupra - ride is a little more lumpy, but the car feels great to drive. I think the squeaking is a result of water getting in between the bush and the housing. Oh and get it changed fairly soon. Mine started squeaking in the wet especially over speedbumps/pot holes, and occasionally when braking and changing gear. 2 weeks later the front left bush failed! Not something i would recommend if avoidable!
  7. Hi, This has just started happening on my car too. Is this an urgent thing to look at or can this be left for service booked at the start of May.
  8. Hi all, Not a very happy 2010 so far. I have a 70,000 mile 05 plate fabia vrs. i recently posted a question on a creak from front left footwell area when travelling over speed bumps, and the same noise when reaching bite point in first and second. (Possibly suspension bushes?? maybe) Today whilst leaving car park for home from sunny Bristol, the engine started fine, no signs of creaking at bite point however there was a distinct engine rattle at 1500 revs in first (and second once out of car park). The same noise was heard when slowing in second at the same 1500 revs and below, then disappears when the clutch is depressed. At normal speeds the car was fine (though i did not push above 2500 as 1 month ago had a new turbo and intercooler fitted - so was a little paranoid of turbo failure - again) Does this all point to the dual mass flywheel?? Also when arriving home with usual stop start driving (damn traffic lights!) the noise was not apparent at low revs or when slowing.

  10. High pitch grind is more like the noise of a spring? Is there a spring in the flywheel etc? Not very mechanically minded as you probably guessed.
  11. Hi all, Wonder if anyone can shed any light on this. I have an 05 VRS with 70,000 on ther clock!! Not a thing wrong until just before xmas, when turbo failed due to a hole in the intercooler! So new turbo and new intercooler for xmas! Over last week, there has been an intermittent squeak from what the front when going over speed bumps - worse on the back end of the bump. And today the squeak over bumps has gone but has been replaced by a very similar - if not the same - squeak when engaging the clutch in first. The squeak can also occur (today) on initial acceleration from low revs in any gear. Any ideas? Oh and Ps not a high pitch squeak - more like a high pitched grind
  12. Well WD40 didn't work. I've copied my reply to Dougal from my thread below. Removing the rear boot trim wasn't easy and required a little courage and a decent amount of faith in Skoda plastics. However no where near as hard as relocating the trim!! If your alarm trips again, it might be worth a look. Well alarm went off again last night. So much for the WD40. Had a chance to look at your reply (Dougal). After 10 minutes ofhard graft and a couple of nasty looking cuts on my fingers, i managed to prize off the boot trim. Lo and behold a distinct aroma of washer fluid, and one loosened wiper hose. Problem now fixed. £80 remains mine. Just deciding how best to spend said windfall. I think it's time MAX had the rear ARB he deserves (blame the kid for them name, but i secretly like it!). Thanks for the sound advice. P.s my thread is Alarm fault - boot sensor

  14. The rears should flash, acknowledging that the boot is shut properly
  15. Hi. I started the other thread, same problem with mine. Touchwood hasn't gone off since. I sprayed the boot latch on the boot itself.
  16. Cheers. It seems the latch wasn't closing fully when i closed the boot. With a bit of fiddling and a touch of WD40, the alarm is now silent and i can keep my £80.
  17. Just wondering if you got to the bottom of your problem. Same is happening with my vrs and the dealers are charging 80 quid for a diagnostic!! Max vrs
  18. Hi, Just wondering if anyone can help. I've got an 05 fabia vrs and for the past two days the alarm has been tripping intermittently. I've worked out that it is a possible boot lid sensor (through the cunning means of looking at the dash warning light, and deducing that the boot is in fact shut!!!) Does anyone know where the sensor is so i can have a look and see if anything is in the way, is this a common falut (doesn't seem to be looking at the forums), and i'd be interested if anyone else has had the problem. Local garage charging 80 quid for diagnostic Thanks Max vrs P.s only way of stoppiong car alarm is by leaving it unlocked!
