  1. This is a hypothetical question, if I was to buy a second hand VRS which had been re-mapped but wasn't told by the seller would this help in an insurance claims situation? Also, hypothetically of course, if you had a re-map done with say REVO and also purchased an SPS unit, if you reverted the car back to the original settings would an insurance company be able to tell a re-map had been done in the first place?
  2. No it hasn't, but I bought the dump valve from Forge and specified which car I had, should they have sent me the one with the right angled connector?
  3. Having fitted a new Forge 007 dump valve a couple of weeks ago a have noticed that the little vacuum hose going into the top of the valve is touching the engine cover and is starting to deteriorate. I have tried to push the hose on as far as possible and have also secured it with a jubilee clip. Has anyone else experienced this problem and come up with any solutions? I have left the engine cover off for now and although I'm not one for staring at my engine all day long, I think it looks much better with it on, (don't really want to cut off any of the engine cover though if I can avoid it!). Cheers
  4. Just out of a matter of interest after doing the work I described, I didn't dis-connect the battery to reset the ECU. Does anyone know whether I should have done this seeing as I have put some new/modified parts on? Maybe this would help the idle?
  5. how many miles have you done? I've just hit 60K and wondered if the age/miles has anything to do with it?
  6. My VRS idle's exactly the same. Changed the intercooler pipe at the weekend and also put on a new MAF, forge dump valve and green cotton filter, and guess what................... still idling the same! The car is definately running smoother but the idle is still by no means constant. Maybe it's just a trait of the car and I've decided I'm gonna live with it before the problem solving spending becomes an obsession and I end up re-building the engine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Thanks for that, gonna fit a forge dump valve and green panel filter at the same time as replacing this pipe, so hopefully I will see some improvement on the breathing side of things!
  8. Cheers for the heads up about the intercooler pipe Goochie, gonna hopefully fit the pipe on Monday with my brothers help. Was it easy enough changing it under the car as we were just gonna jack the car up? Have you noticed any difference since you fitted it? Any evidence on the old pipe of any leaks?
  9. Right, can't find the location of this pipe in the engine bay of my 1.8T VRS. The part number is 06A 145 790 C, thought I would fit it myself to save some money but it would help if I could find where the flaming thing went?
  10. My brother has kindly said he will change my rear pads for me as they have nearly had it and I am hopeless when it comes to the whole mechanical side. He has asked me to find out if he will need a wind back tool for the piston in the caliper and I wondered if anybody who had experience with changing the rear pads had any advice? Thanks in advance
  11. Thanks for that I will give them a bell.
  12. Right, had my 60,000 mile service done yesterday and whilst the car was in I asked them to have a look at the slightly erratic idle. They came to the conclusion that it needs a new Mass Air Meter and a Pipe replacing. Can't afford to pay the labour so was gonna have a go at doing the work myself  , but had a couple of queries first: 1. Is the Mass Air Meter the same part as the MAF which people have talked about a lot on the forum? 2. Does anybody have any idea which pipe it is they are talking about which also needs replacing and where the pipe is located? (think I've read somewhere about an induction pipe going soft but don't know which this is) Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  13. Thanks for the advice, I'd better get researching then. Anybody got any details on any tuners in the Surrey area cos there doesn't seem to be any around? Has anybody heard about or dealt with a tuner called Eurotek based in Croydon as they do the custom-code remap which a lot of people on here seem to rave about?
  14. As far as the generic remap for the Octavia VRS is concerned is there any difference between say custom code, AMD, Jabba, Revo etc or is it simply best to go to the nearest tuner?
