  1. Sorry to push my luck on your thread but desperate times! Any chance there's a gearbox going on the sale list at all?
  2. anyone got the owners manual for a mk1 octavia? need to kno what number fuse the headlights are? :(

  3. :thumbup:I use a 5 farad power capacitor already, and really improved clarity. I also use 4awg wiring and is all sounding very clear at all volumes. Your suggestion of a second battery seems favourable, as I only suffer this problem on tick over. As soon as I pull away the alternator gives enough current for everything to work as normal. My regular solution is to turn down the volume at roundabouts anyway and you only really need it louder on the motorway, but it is nice to know i'v got the power if it was needed or wanted. And Lloyd55vrs, I completely agree with you on the octy being good for sound, the car traps so much sound in before any deadening, very good for not offending people with my awful taste in music . I also have to say thats a very attractive find you have there, even if a shiney alternator doesn't fix my problem it looks bloody good on yours, I want one!!
  4. Yes but I want more power, as my stock alternator doesn't agree with my non-stock stereo!
  5. BUMP! I also am interested in getting a higher output from my alternator to stop my headlights suffering from the power drained by my stereo. Any help appreciated ;-)
  6. Thanks to all the people in this thread!-(removal of the scuttle) You've just allowed me access to the rubber bung for my amp power cable to go through my bulk head.. Much easier to do with the pollen filter and housing removed. Reiterating the lack of need for wiper removal, though I did find it easyer (for wiggling the scuttle) to use the ignition switch to catch the wipers in the up position! Quick note also, after removing the pollen filter housing I was amazed at how much mulch and leaves had congrigated BEHIND the filter! I have previously AquaVac'd as much as possible away and thought I had got it all. Well worth clearing out. So again, cheers everybody!
  7. I just payed £200 in Herne Bay, and the only car I have ever had problems with tinted windows was on an e36 (1996) 3 series. The only reason the windows would scratch or in this case come off the runner was as the old 3 series had soft material to protect the glass under the rubber surrounding the window. This soft material after time fattened up by moisture and eventually after being heated by the sun and such stays fat + the window film roughly 0.8mm. This created too much friction and caused me to need the scissor arm inside to be replaced. However, I can as yet report only good things from tinting my Skoda The thing to remember is that tints are alot more advanced than they used to be. Oh one other thing while i'm on the subject! I vowed every time I tinted my first few cars it would be the last.. Do not unless you have been shown and are very compitant attempt to fit the stuff from your local motor factors! I was shown by a trained fitter years ago but it is very dificult and I never got as good a finnish as the tint shops do. Spend the money and get it done properly, the industry standard stuff my tint shop used is imported and about 10 years ahead of the stuff in your motor factors. Hope this helps

  10. Hello everybody! I found this site through google researching my new car. Next weekend i pick up the replacement for my current car (bmw 5 series 3.0ltr V8 94), to the approval of my grandparents and the better educated of my friends I decided on a Skoda. My grandfather has owned 3 Skoda's now consecutively (very unlike him to stick to a brand), however all of them diesel. I wanted something a little more economical than my V8 for work so I started looking at around the 1.8 mark and stumbled apon the Mk1 Octavia vRS. Much to the disgust of my bmw owning friends (they will be converted) after a few minutes test driving the vRS I remarked to my girlfriend "it feels to drive like a car I could never afford!", 1 hour 20 mins testing later I took the car back to the showroom to a rather worried looking salesman with simply the words "I want that car!", his face changed and we did the deal. So I picked up a very clean 2 owner car (first owner Skoda Director) on an 03 plate with 28,000 on the clock, in silver. Car being serviced and checked for the warranty now and I'm itching to pick it up over the easter weekend from a main skoda dealer in kent. Looking forward to meeting everybody and hearing any advice for looking after my new car (gratefuly appreciated).. Rich
