  1. Garage (VW specialist not dealer) has inserted a bit of plastic to try and push it into position. Working for now. No charge but said the replacement would be in the £100s. I’m putting the kettle on ready!
  2. Yes, just had the same fault. Wiring replaced by independent garage. Do Skoda use particularly brittle cables?
  3. Update: dash electrics needed to be replaced. £1200. Ouch!
  4. Most irritating fault is blue main beam warning light keeps going out when the car's warmed up. Unfortunately it works fine for about 15 mins so dealer claimed they couldn't find a fault while they had it and then muttered about a 'software issue'. Fingers crossed it works while they do the MoT in July. No idea what causes this. Have had the ghost passenger seat from new (reclines by itself while the car is stationery and locked but not while it's being watched!). Dealer rewired the controls but makes no difference. The rattle which I thought was from the glovebox is in fact the climatronic fan - switch to 'off' and it goes away. There are posts showing how to fix it but I'm not that bothered.
  5. The blue main beam warning light works OK when starting off but after ten minutes stops working - lights are fine, it's just the warning isn't displaying. The other day it went out while on main beam (i.e. not while switching to/from dipped). Any ideas as to what's causing this?
  6. Surely folks getting the fix done isn't just about 'being compliant' but about making our own small contributions to reducing NOx levels and thereby global warming, to say nothing of the adverse health effects of NOx especially for people with asthma and the like. Individually it's not much but it all adds up.
  7. What no-one seems to mention in this thread is that having the fix done means we'll each be making a small contribution to reducing NOx levels and thereby a small contribution to countering global warming. There's a small risk of marginally poorer performance / mpg but isn't it worth it if future generations will have a habitable planet?
  8. To get back to the OP, the passenger seat does not have a memory function but reclines of its own accord after (not while) you get out and lock the car. So you come back to find a partially or fully reclined seat. It's nothing to do with different key fobs as they only control the driver's seat memory.
  9. My blue main beam warning light on the dash is intermittent - main beams (xenon) come on fine but increasingly there's no warning light to accompany them, just the normal green headlights-on light. I've just noticed as well (though it may be unconnected) that the indicator for manual main beam on the rotary switch doesn't light up (the small green light with a picture of the main beam), though I'm sure it used to. I gather the main beam warning light is now an MoT failure so I need to do something about it. Any idea what the problem might be?
  10. Our passenger seat reclines of its own accord when the car is unattended. Dealer rewired it but it made no difference - still does it five years on. Dealer still has no clue as to cause.
  11. Getting back to the title of this discussion (!) Skoda now have a page on their site (http://new.skoda-auto.com/en/experience/service/maps-updating) which takes you to navigation.com where you can download map updates free. However, the Skoda page is headed "Update your maps for the New Octavia" - does this mean that the updates won't work in my Superb 2011 Columbus? Does anyone have experience of updating via this route?
  12. I took mine in to David Ian (Morecambe) and they had a hard look at it. After examining the passenger seat controls in detail they noticed that when the seat is at its highest setting the cable to the control unit is stretched. So they ordered a new unit and installed it with a longer bit of cable. Since then the seat has behaved itself (a few months now). So it looks as if the cause is a poor connection between the seat and the control unit caused by a too-short cable? Fixed under warranty (car about 15 months old.) Another excellent bit of customer service from David Ian, who I highly recommend.
  13. My Fabia II has started doing this. Caught it with the fan on 5 hours ater it had last been out, two days after I had a completely flat battery. Dealer can't replicate it and told me off for removing the fuse to stop the fan! Apparently I now have to tell Skoda Assistance not to try starting it but to recover it untouched to the dealers so they can look for a fault code.
  14. Yesterday my 9 month old Fabia II (1.9TDI) was running fine at lunchtime but when I went to it in the evening it was completely dead (not even enough battery to open the doors). Skoda Assiatnce chap very good, tested everything but couldn't find a fault. Off to the dealer this morning but has anyone else had this happen? Back from the dealer who can't find anything wrong - so it's a case of hang on and see if it happens again. UPDATE: Caught it with the radiator fan on, five hours after last run, 2 hours after starting it for a couple of minutes to put it in the garage. So off to the dealer again. They can't replicate it and seem disinclined to believe me - they just log it as "car won't start" (because that's the effect of the original dead battery - duh!). If it does it again I have to call Skoda Assistance who have to be told not to try starting it but to recover it to the dealer so they can find a fault code. I can't wait! JANUARY 2010 - problem has gone away. Dirt on a relay maybe?
  15. I've always had excellent service from them. Never experienced a problem picking up a loan car. Courteous staff, fair prices. I'll be buying from them again.
  16. Only happens every 3 weeks or so but after a night in the garage (that's the car, not me) when I try to start it the starter engages OK and the engines coughs once then there's the whine of the starter disengaging (I assume) but that's it. Does the same a number of times. My wife claims that if you bounce up and down in the car (on your own!) a few times it loosens up and starts as normal. Skoda garage couldn't find anything wrong. Any ideas? (I looked on the VW site and one possibility is a sticking anti-shudder valve - see Car won't start? Check your Anti Shudder Valve - TDIClub Forums Does that sound likely) [Re-posted from the Introduce yourself discussion area - sorry for any duplication]
