  1. Totally agree. My VRs will be going here till it dies..
  2. Excellent, thanks for this. If you are willing to part with the Golf one, could you pm me details of how I could take it off your hands? Cheers.
  3. Hi Dox, I'm not sure if its destroyed the two side pieces, a quick glance showed they looked quite out of shape - wont't be able to get it jacked up till weekend... If you do have a spare (not worried about scrapes as long as it does the job!), could you pm me with how much you want for it? I'm up in Aberdeenshire for postage. Cheers. gm2112
  4. Hi folks, I had a nice view of my engine undertray disintegrating whilst at speed tonight - I think it avoided hitting the 61 plate Audi behind me . On the VRS I recall it was a small, bumper to before sump tray. As I dont have any bits to check (!), can someone advise what the part no. is? I hear they arent too pricey either (<£30?). Thanks, gm2112
  5. Toyo T1R - 225 45 17. Interesting about the wear issue - I do 16k plus a year and managed 12k on the fronts, 20k plus on the rear Unfortunately they are worse than dire in the snow - be warned!!! For that I've invested in a set of Nokian WRG2's which were a revelation in snow/rain/slush/whatever this past few winter months. Will change them over to another set of Toyo's in March.
  6. Might be worth putting this in the Fabia forum ! Could be anything really, and really needs a diagnostic check.
  7. Ok, first of all, I bought a MK4 Golf Rear wiper unit to replace the knackered (seized with rust!) unit I had. Slightly different model number but fits perfectly.......until you try to connect the wiper arm and nozzle!!! :'( This type sprays from the spindle, and the connector is different - great... but I managed to get a MK4 Wiper arm....but it just doesn't sit right(knocks the cap a few mm's on first sweep). Anyone else tried this? Pain in the **** but I cant see much if any difference between the wiper arm on the Octy and the Golf? Rear window is obviously not as sharply raked as the Golf. Only £25 for the parts, but looking on fleabay for a second hand motor is around £40 plus for the "original" Octavia. Anyone know of a similar VW group motor and arm that will fit the Octavia? Thanks,
  8. Thats just solved a similar problem I have with my new Sony unit... Thanks!
  9. Been running Tesco 99 (now "Momentum") for 2 1/2 years with no problems at all. Only time I had an issue was with BPs old 99, which even with 2 tanks ran like a tortoise with 2 legs.. I'm on a 110k and car is running sweet. Wouldn;t use anything else TBH... Carry on using Momentum - nothing to worry about !
  10. Agree, the ones on eBay have lasted well so far (including 3 x shampoo cleans!). Had them over a year. What I would like though is a heel plate for these....
  11. More room in the Octy Hatch boot than say, a 407 estate! I've had similar family size loads in the boot. Trees(!) Gas boilers, doors.....unbelievable what you can fit in there
  12. Up to 105k on original clutch and exhaust. Never had (touch wood!) a car where all the "bits" have lasted so long. Here's for another 100k.......!
  13. That looks excellent - really nice. Splitter tops it off well. Think I'm going to raid the piggy bank!
  14. Interesting topic this. I've just had my thermostat replaced, and I also changed back from a Green air filter to the bog standard. Now on a 40 mile round trip (aka the daily commute), I'm averaging sub 30mpg all the time! And this is a at a not very crazy 50-60mph on B-roads due to traffic. Doing the same route (using Super U/L) with a knackered thermostat and the Green filter, would average around 34/45!!??? :wonder: Due a service in 2k miles, but why such a dramatic difference in MPG?
  15. Thanks again guys. The reason I thought it was purely the missing rubber rest on the passenger side, is that the greatest movement is on the drivers side. I'm wondering about the catch now, as when it went to have its last service before christmas, the catch and lever were stiff and I needed a screwdriver to release it. Up to this point the bonnet was not rising noticeably from day to day. Will carry on "fiddling" with the catch and front rests. Cheers.
  16. Thanks to all who replied. The picture of the TDI engine bay shows where I think the problem lies - right hand side rubber "rest" is missing. Where can I get one ?? The two plastic ones at the headlights are there, so will try adjust these also. It has lifted a good two inches going in to a headwind - thats been the worrying thing - have rechecked and lubricated the catch for good measure also. Thanks all!
  17. Have noticed that at speed (anything above 60), I can see noticeable movement from the bonnet - starting to move an inch or two. Checked for any rubber rests and there only appears to be one on drivers side wing, near the coolant bottle. There is nothing along the passenger side wing. Bonnet closes as normal, and ther are no large gaps or signs of misalignment. Something has surely fallen out (!), and was wondering if I can get some of these rests to remove the fear of having a nice silver bonnet coming through the windscreen. :'( Cant find anything part-wise on here or google - anyone help? Thanks!
  18. Thumbs up for these guys from me. Will be using for servicing for the forseeable. Friendly staff and no "questionable" pricing unlike others I wont mention...
  19. An excellent choice! The tyre debate rages on, but in my experience, and 2000 miles on, these Toyos are excellent for me. I have a standard Octy VRS, and grip is excellent, noise is surprisingly not evident at low or high speed.
  20. Interesting - I've just put four of these on two weeks ago! 225/45/17 T1-R I did read a thread on here about the possibility of "grey" imports, or non EU tyres? Could that be a factor? So far, amazing grip (well scrubbed after 900 miles), so I should be pencilling in a new set for August/September? :rotz: Will be very disappointed if I get similar results to yourself - there seems to be so many recommendations countered by warnings with tyres - bit of of lucky dip!
  21. Think you may be right there Ken, as it can be extremely difficult to select reverse at times also. Nothing to lose (apart from some cash!) in getting the oil changed - good shout.
  22. The clutch action is still ok (for me anyway). I wouldn't say its spongy. Still quite light, and I believe this still the original clutch (@ 93k). Have tried foot down and car in gear - level - and doesn't seem to be any movement. Very slight vibration coming from the pedal though. Brake fluid level is fine.
  23. Hi all, Weird one this - I haven't come across any threads with similar issue, so here goes... Stationary in traffic, select 1st gear, then just as you lift the clutch - clunk - followed by a brief inability to move back to neutral. This just seems to happen in slow moving traffic (frequent for me on the commute..) If the "clunk" (what a word) happens and I change in to 2nd, all is well. However, if there is a fair bit of '1st-stop, 1st-stop', you really have to wrestle with it to get out of 1st. Any ideas? Mounts or selector mechanism? Thanks.
