  1. Hi My clutch is ready for replacement, and my 1st gear has been whining for the last 20,000 miles. So im looking around for a gearbox, I figure I may aswell have it replaced while the clutch is done if ecenomic to do so.... The transmission code on the label in the boot is EHA, however looking arround on Ebay I cant find many/if any available. Are there any other golf/A3/leon varient gearboxes that fit the Mk1 vRS? 5 speed or 6 Speed? Many thanks and Merry Christmas.
  2. Hi All.. My clutch has started slipping in the last week or two, only under load... Say in 3rd gear upwards while under full throttle from 2500 revs, the rpm will spike up then drop down again before I get prepelled forwards, im guessing when the clutch grips. Can anyone recommend a replacement clutch, or should I stick with the standard item? My car is completely standard, it is a 2005 mk1 vRS with 134k on the clock. Also, for about 15000 miles 1st gear has been noisy, its a whiny noise. Seems to be ok in all other gears. My gearbox type is EHA, im looking into this as it may be worth getting sorted now while the clutch is replaced. Could anything other than the gearbox being knackerd cause the noise, low or old transmission fluid maybe?? thanks all. chris
  3. You need to be... My 2005 mk1 has 134k on the clock and the clutch started slipping last week! :'(
  4. I use 'All Weather' tyres on my VRS estate (with hatchback 17's). They were crap in the summer, but now with the wet weather and icey roads they make complete sense! They grip nearly as well in wet as they did in the dry!
  5. Your probably right, nothing to worry about. Gave the brakes a good test this morning from 70mph and it drove and stopped strait, must be a good sign. Im wondering though if the previous owner fitter different pads on each side... Thanks
  6. Interesting!!! Perhaps there is a guru out there who can shed some light? Anyone?
  7. Hey, thanks for the propt reply. Hadnt thought of that, just assumed it was the passenger side not working. lol Not noticed any smelling though... Going to go give the breaks a hard time on some roundabouts... Clean the wheels off and see if that fixes it.
  8. Hi All Been away for a bit covering 1000 of miles, so my Octy vRS has seen some action lately... I was checking my tyre pressures this afternoon and noticed that there was loads more break dust on the drivers side than the passenger side. Has anyone else noticed this? Any ideas appritiated... Will pay a visit to my local specialist next week. Thanks
  9. Hey, another high mile 05 vRS, I bought my RS estate early last year with 100k on the clock, now got 118k, full book (or two) of stamps. Just treated it to a set of 17" spiders too, looks like it always should have now.
  10. I only managed 5090. Lame I know.... Anyone get 5 figures? Or am I the only one with far too much time on there hands?
  11. Could be wrong (never had a remap) but shouldnt they do a health check when mapping the car checking for broken pipes ect?
  12. Just checked my crossing times... Dont think I will be driving in the dark anyway.
  13. Your UK insurance certificate will give you third party cover in other EU countries, but I would strongly suggest taking out a Green Card if you have fully comp insurance in the UK. Peace of mind... I'm such an old woman:rofl: Hewesy Got a green card sorted. It was free as I am away for less than a week.
  14. Got the GB sticker, hi vis jackets, first aid kit and warning triangle, will steel the fire extinguisher from the Caterham. Just need to sort the lights.
  15. Thank for the tips guys, First time I have taken my own car to Europe, I normally hire a car when I get there so dont need to do anything. It's my first wedding anniversary so its a holiday rather than work, your not wrong about the price, but I though id be romantic for the second time in 9 years, the first being when I proposed. lol The route looks dead easy, but I borrowed a eurpe sat nav anyway.
