  1. Hi Guys, Decided to fit remote locking on my 2004 car. Its a pain to get at the door lock as the inner door card seems to be 'pop-riveted' on ! Thought i would tap into the lock/unlock switch on the centre console beside the ciggy lighter. On checking the wiring at the back of the switch there are 4 wires. white with yellow stripe brown with green stripe blue brown. I left my multimeter at work (doh) :-( Anyone able to tell me which wire does what ?? thanks in advance Adbru
  2. Hi Guys, Quick story, had a 2004 105pd for 3 years - had a few problems with it. Engine light came on about two years ago indicating fuel temp sensor. Sensor changed to no effect but car ran fine. Then this summer it started either die-ing or failing to start intermittently. Showed a crank sensor fault, sensor changed and started running ok. Then before xmas it started playing up again, one indication was that when you put the ignition on the rev counter started 'dancing' as if it car was struggling to calibrate itself. Then it died solid, took it to local independent garage, they got a auto-spark in and he found part of the loom had been rubbing near the starter. one wire broken and a number chaffed bare. Fixed that but still showing cam sensor plus another couple of codes. cam sensor changed and cam fault gone but other codes still there. Symptoms now are that turn ignition on there are no codes/warning lights. start car and it takes 4 turns on the engine to start and 2 codes in the ecu. cancel the codes with the engine running and they dont come back until the car is started again. I'll get a note of the current codes tomorrow but anyone have any ideas ?? Garage suggest that the 4 turns is a symptom of the crank/cam sensors not talking to each other ?? thanks in advance Adbru p.s. it has 170k and also has been regularly serviced.
  3. Hi Folks, 110 views and no comments ........ I havent been around for a while so please let me know if i've posted in the wrong place, should this have gone in the tech section ? cheers Adbru
  4. morning, Latest is that it looks like the crank sensor is dieing Garage reckons that the gearbox needs to come out to change the sensor, can anyone confirm thats right ?? Seems a bad design if thats the case ! thanks in advance... Adbru p.s. they had a 'Y' reg octy in for a service yesterday with just short of 400k on the clock
  5. update, rac arrived and was working fine (sods law!) new fault code of g28 engine speed sensor ,implasable signal. Apparntly this mezns its the crank sensor so its now in the garage . Will update thread when i hear more
  6. Morning folks, currently sitting waiting for RAC to arrive :'( I have a 2004 pd octavia which has died for the second time in a week, symptoms are car starts ok but when reving is a bit hesitant. Then it dies when driving forward. However you can reverse ok !!? It did this last week and I got a lift to work, then when I went back for the car 5 hours later it was fine ! Anyone got any ideas ?? cheers Adbru
  7. Hi Guys, The drivers keylock has been getting more and more stiff as the winters gone on, think it just needs cleaned/lubed. Been out this morning following a guide on here for an ocy 1 but the keylock wont come out of the door (bit the key goes in). It will move slightly but will not come out through the door, I have backed of the two screws as far as I dare without the screws dropping down inside the car. Any ideas ?? cheers Adbru (now waiting on the rain to stop so I can put the door card back on )
  8. Hi, Update to this thread as I have a similar problem with my 2004 (new shape) 1.9tdi classic. After speaking to the dealers it seems my car does not have the unit under the battery (no wonder I couldnt find it !! ) but has it built into the fan itself. Part number 1K0959455CP quoted at £126 + vat. Now saving up to get the part, the fan fuse has been sitting in the ashtray since new year when the battery went flat !! hth Adbru
  9. Hi, I found one at a breakers but its a 140A model. Would it be ok to put it in instead of the 110A one ?? Any potential problems or will the regulator prevent any overcharging etc ?? Cheers Adbru
  10. Hi Guys, Looking for some help/advice please. Looks like my alternator has died, warning light on the dash is lit and with engine running there is only 11.8v across the battery. Is there a source for brushes ?? been quoted £250 and &190 for a new alternator !! Localish breaker said they had an alternator, gave them all the numbers of the old one and they still sent the wrong one "its the only one we had so I thought I'd just send it !! " (overtons in aberdeen) Currently fitted is a Valeo 110a 06F903023E, will any other model/rating work ?? Thanks in advance Adbru
  11. Cheers Lummox, Thats what I was afraid off  mpg is fine, still sitting around 51-54 which is good news... Adbru
  12. I just replaced the sensor after reading about it online. Should I have replaced the housing as well ??
  13. Thanks for the reply, I have cleared this a number of times as well :( Bit of a pain , but hey hoo. any idea what the resistance of the sensor should be if its good ?? Would be worth testing the 'faulty' one before i bin it in case its actually ok....
  14. Hi Guys, Looking for some info please. 2004 tdi 105pd , warning light came on dash. Garage read the code as "P0183-fuel temp sensor A circuit high input." I changed the sensor but am still getting this warning intermittently. The book also lists a sensor B, does this car have a sensor B and if so where is it ?? (in case I changed the wrong one !! ) If not any suggestions as to what to check next ?? The sensor I changed was front right of the engine and part no 038906081B. Thanks for any help. Adbru
  15. Hi Guys, The engine warning light came on recently, when it was in for its mot the garage (local , not dealer) read the fault memory. Its came back with "P0183 fuel temp sensor A circuit high input". They cleared it and it hasnt come back on since. Given the cold weather up here (we have had -15) is it likely to be a one-off or should i change the sensor ?? Its a 2004 1.9tdi 105 with 130k Thanks for any help Adbru
