  1. thanks. But I don't understand why they would clonk if there wasn't any play in them? Surely the clonk has to be the product of some sort of movement or is it just that u might not be able to replicate that movement by hand??
  2. Well just went to my local friendly mechanics who could hear the noise but after a good 30mins poking around apparently couldn't find anything obviously wrong. I asked him about the drop links and he reckoned they would cause more of a rattle than a metallic clunk. He suggested that the rear bushes on the wishbone had some play in them but that wasn't likely to be causing the noise either. HELP!!!
  3. Does anyone know how much these cost and how much it should cost in labour to replace them. Or is it a easy diy job?
  4. Thanks. I dont seem to have any noises going over speed bumps as yet. I've had a look at the drop links but i dont really know what im looking for. They are still there and and are still in one piece. (i'm assuming that they are the the new metal strut connected to the end of the ARB in the last picture!)
  5. Hi, I have a 04 Fabia VRS. Like a lot of people on hear i seem to have bought one that likes making lots of weird and wonderfull noises: The latest one is a single clonk/clunk type sound when im moving at low speeds with some lock on. For example turning into a normal parking space. It will clunk once about halfway through the turn. Although recently its started doing it at slightly higher speeds eg on a small roundabout. It seems to be coming from the front suspension and i think it comes from both sides. I've read a few posts about drop links and i think this might be the cause. What do you think? If it is this or anything else please could you give me a idiots guide of what to check and how to check it. Thanks you for reading and any advice that you give. Ben
  6. Hmm i had the wheels balanced and the tracking done just after i bought it as i thought that might be the problem. It obviously hasn't solved or possibly the job wasnt done right. If it was engine drivetrain connected would i be able to feel this thro the steering? As thats what it feels like. And what do u mean by imment dmf failure? It sounds expensive
  7. I may of slightly exaggerated. I posted a few weeks ago about unwanted steering vibration at high speed. After lots more rigorous high speed testing 80-100+ (in germany/private runway/track/isle of man/moon). The problem seems to of got worse and seems to be linked to acceleration. At said speeds anything more than light acceleration in top seems to cause the steering to judder which then subsides on a constant throttle. It also seems to be coming from the engine/drivetrain rather than the wheels/suspension etc. Any ideas? Or things i can do to try narrow down the problem? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help. Ben
  8. thanks. I'm assuming rarb stands for rear ant roll bar. Can u tell i'm a novice??
  9. Thanks scarlet hmm that's my next thought if the new tyres don't solve the problem. The mechanic who checked it out for me thought that the previous owner had been running incorrect pressures which was what was causing the uneven wear resulting in the vibration. Is there a easy way to check the state of the bushes??
  10. I need a couple of issue's sorting out and was after some quick advice please. Sorry if you've read this in the welcome section already, as someone pointed out it probably wasnt the right place to ask. 1) despite it sayin 70k in the handbook for a cambelt change and not specifying a timescale. Reading on here it seems like its a good idea to get done ASAP. Am i right in thinking about £300 all in with a metal water pump thingy (not technically minded at all) is a sensible bench mark? Has anyone in the essex area had this done and if so who buy. I want someone to do the job properly. 2) I need some new tyres shortly i think i've narrowed it down to three after reading thro some post's what do u think? TOYO T1R PROXES TOYO T1 R - 205/45R16 87W XL £61.60 KKUMHO KU31 ECSTA SPORT KUMHO KU 31 - 205/45R16 87W XL £50.00 HANKOOK K104 HANKOOK K 104 - 205/45R16 87Y XL £54.00 I'm expecting to pay approx £8 fitting per tyre all in at a local garage. Hopefully the two new tyres will cure the slight vibration/pull/wobble thing that goes on at about 90mph (in germany of course) as the tyres currently on it seem to have worn slightly unevenly and although i've had them balanced/tracked it doesnt seem to of solved the problem. 3) Finally whats the cheapest way to cure the understeer/body roll (i don't need a touring car, but the current set up doesn't seem to match the performance again the front boots probably arent helping i know. Thanks for your help. Ben
  11. Cheers bigW i though i might of posted it in the wrong section. Yeah i've kind of summised the other post's that i'd read thro, i just wasnt sure how up to date they where? Obviously new products and prices etc come out all the time.
  12. Evening As the title suggest's i'm new to skoda. (sorry all those who where expecting something else and shame on you) I have had the pleasure of owning a fabia vrs (04/04 red 50k) for 3 weeks now and generally i'm pretty happy with it. I love the torque mpg etc, don't like the handling so much. Which i'm sure isn't a surprise to anyone here. I need a couple of issue's sorting out and was after some advice pls. 1) despite it sayin 70k in the handbook for a cambelt change and not specifying a timescale. Sorry to chunter on. thanks for reading and in advance for your replies. Oh one more thing, i managed to get skoda to pay 80% towards having the doors resealed as they were leaking. Obviously the car's out of warranty so i didnt think this was to bad. SO worth asking if u have the same problem (Sorry if you already know) Ben
