I have had a few vw group cars with it fitted but its never happened before. It still works at the moment just abit annoying that i cant see whats being selected and part of the temp readout is missing. Theres a few on ebay around the 12 quid mark so cheap enough to get another. Is the superb unit the same? I assume they are just plug and play no coding needed or anything like that?

The display on my climatronic unit on my octavia elegance has partially disappeared, the buttons still work and it still lights up at night however only bits of the lcd display are working. Is there a fix for this or is time to look for a second hand unit?

Surely if its running and running well then I would take it as a job well done. I wouldn't have the patience or knowledge to attempt a belt change on my TDI which is the same engine and as you say at 220k if it goes wrong you don't stand to loose a massive amount! I paid 300 quid to get the belt and water pump done on mine at 60k about 4 years ago its now due again as its on 135k but don't know if its worth chucking another 300 quid + at it.

This happened to mine to,found it easier to remove the seat to get at the bolt. Lucky for me there's a breakers yard with a load of Octavia taxis in stock and seen as taxis don't use their seat belts the part was like new! Easy enough job to do and good opportunity to hoover under the seat the bits you can't normally get to!

Mine did this when the battery was dying! I thought it was glow plugs but put a good quality battery on it and its been fine ever since! Test your battery before you go throwing money at other stuff

Its on 47k now, is the cambelt due now? Its a 61 plate registered sept 2011? Is it a belt and water pump job at the same time like other bag cars?

Good to hear its all positive! Will have to look at sourcing a spare wheel though wouldnt seem right without one! Only other thing i noticed was the higher tax band for the dsg model? How does that work if its the same engine?

Ah ok cheers for the reply! Is there any known problems with the dsg box on these. Ive had a search through various forums and it seems all the problems were with the early boxes failing when the system was first introduced. I plan on keeping the car for at least 4 or 5 years and my comute is 100 miles a day so looking for the same reliability as my mk1 tdi octavia has offered

Other thing I forgot mention, is it normal for a mk2 vrs to have no spare wheel? Not even a space saver?

The sales manager told me I would get 47mpg but I thought he had just plucked the figure out of the air! 45mpg I can live with. Does it make much difference if you drive it in manual mode using the paddles?

I had a test drive in the above mentioned car today after searching for a mk2 vrs TDI for some time. It ticks all the boxes for me however it has the dsg box and I've been looking for a manual. Overall I was very impressed with how smooth the gear changes were compared to the 3 series BMW auto I owned a few years ago. A few things concern me though mainly surrounding the comparison of the mpg figure compared to the manual and any potential problems that could develop pain a few years time with the gearbox. The car is a 61 plate with full Skoda history and 46k on the clock and has had one dsg service. Anything I should be looking out for and if anyone can provide their experience on running the same car that would be great.

Yeah always admired the mk1 fabia vrs ever since they raced one against a mini cooper on top gear What is a good price for one these days as they seem to vary a lot, age doesn't bother me, just want to try and find the best example I can with plenty of life in it

I need a more economical car for work as my commute is going to be 80 miles a day after Christmas. I've seen a mk1 fabia vrs on a 56 plate going for 5.5k with 1 owner and 48k on the clock, I've also seen a mk2 fabia level 3 1.9tdi with 58k on the clock on a 57 plate for 6k. Both cars are immaculate from what I can see with documented history, which one would be the better option? What is a good price for a mk1 vrs these days? The late I ones still seem to be strong money

My mk1 is the 110bhp non PD engine and averages around 50mpg during mixed driving, we used have a Passat 1.9tdi with a PD 130 engine and although it was more refined I only ever saw around 43 to 45mpg doing the same journeys. My quest now will be to try and test drive them both and see which one suits

I've found a 1.9 for a 3850, 1 owner car 05 plate elegance spec with full Skoda history and 94k on the clock, is this a good price and what are can belt intervals?

OK cheers for the advice guys, the whole dpf thing was putting me off getting another TDI, do all the vrs TDI,s have a dpf filter?

Would probably be looking at the PD version as I don't think my budget will stretch to a newer cr tdi

I've been thinking about upgrading my mk1 Octavia TDI elegance to a mk2 TDI elegance spec, I've notived that some are 1.9 105bhp and others are 2.0 140bhp. Which is the better engine? Do the they both have dpf filters? I know the 140bhp will be quicker but I would rather long term reliability over speed as it will be my new family car! My mk1 has been excellent car but its starting to look tired now

Ive been looking for a while for a clean unmolested mk1 vrs in south wales area with little joy, given up now and started looking at other VAG cars, not bothered about miles as my last mk4 golf with the 1.8t engine was well over 100k when I sold it on was still as strong as when it had 30k, like others have mentioned service history is key and I always prefer to buy private rather than from a garage , at least that way you can gauge how well its been looked after!

OK cheers for the replies, going to have a look at the aerial and roof gutters if it ever stops raining! Been out and looked at it today and it doesn't seem as bad as usual just a very small patch in the boot,which surprised me due to the amount of rain we had overnight! the car was parked on the flat part of my drive though so don't know if that has helped! Anyone know how the roof gutters are fixed? Tried pulling on them after removing the end caps at the back but something feels like its going to snap if I pull any harder

Got a annoying water leak on my 02 Octavia elegance hatch, started with the boot being damp on the left hand side near to the cd changer now has moved into the car and the rear passenger seat base is saturated! Done a search on here and checked the common washer pipe which is intact and isn't used due to my rear wiper not working, the boot seal looks fine and I've followed a guide to filling the boot hinge aputures with silicone where they enter the car, still no joy! The only other place I can think of next is the roof guttering? Anyone else had a leak around this area? Car starting to really stink now! Currently got the rear bench out drying off which isnt ideal with two kids to ferry about! Anyone with any ideas would be much appreciated!

My rear wiper has never worked since i had the car, so thought i would investigate over the weekend! Found that the plastic cap on the end of the motor has come off exposing a copper coil which has come out of the housing and wont go back in! Anyone else had this issue? Do motors off other VAG cars fit?
