  1. I recently replace the two front tyres on mine - which were factory fit - at 22K. Mainly motorway driving. I am also obliged to go to Kwikfit or ATS, both equally cr*p in my experience.
  2. I had a similar problem - the TPM had boinged but a quick visual check didn't indicate any problem. However, the next day, in daylight, I checked the pressures and one tyre was indeed a couple of PSI lower than the others. A more thorough check revealed a screw in the tyre all but sealing the puncture, but not quite. Good call for the TPM I reckon!
  3. Big red button duly hit Apparently, VAG dealers will not reset the service indicator "as a favour" anymore, they insist on re-servicing the vehicle (you know it's been done properly then I suppose ). So, if the independent doesn't have Vag-com, I guess my car will benefit from two services!
  4. My Octavia was given its first service last week by an independent (lease vehicle not my choice). It had 18300 miles on the clock - I do mainly motorway and always top up when necessary with the correct oil. Anyway, this independent forgot to reset the vehicle's service indicator. So I complain and he pops up and does it manually. Now when I check the time-to-service it's 9700 miles. Before I go ape at the lease company, can someone tell me if resetting the indicator using the trip reset method (manually) reverts the car to fixed servicing? The handbook seems to imply it; the evidence on the Maxidot seems to indicate it; but I want to be sure before I hit the big red button... Thanks
  5. Around 7000 miles on the clock and seeing around 50mpg based on re-fuelling data. Significant amounts of reasonably heavy motorway driving and a proportion of very hilly commute mileage.
  6. I have an '08 model and the maxi-dot doesn't actually allow very much at all as far as I can see. There is an option to rain close the windows and something to do with single door locking, but that seems to be it. As it happens I was going to ask how big a deal is it to change some of the settings - more than three flashes on the "flick indicate" and auto locking of the doors when the car is moving for example.
  7. Which would make sense I suppose to maximise the tank capacity. I naively thought fuel was reasonably clean these days and the perils of "sludge" in the fuel being long gone and the fuel filters in the system being up to the task of removing any foreign bodies that did creep in from grubby storage... Never had any problems in any other vehicle and I would sometimes run them down to running on fumes! I am hoping for improved economy as the engine runs in - I just need to keep my driving style consistant - a challenge all by itself as caravan season kicks in.
  8. Well, 3000 miles in on my new Octy 1.9TDI and convinced I made the right choice Based upon my fuelling figures - I'm getting around 47mpg (~10mpl) on average for a mixture of motorway and hilly town driving - that's around 12.8ppm at current diesel prices. I tend to fill the tank brim to brim so I was surprised when I got the initial "fuel low" light yesterday and still managed to get 52 litres in! I thought the tank only had a capacity of 55 litres so I suppose I had expected the warning light to come on sooner than it did... What are people's experiences of the fuel guage/warning accuracy? Just interested, I guess there must be some variance from car to car...
  9. Nice one! Had mine around a month now and enjoyed best part of 2000 miles so far. It is a very easy drive and I've found the cruise control a real godsend (I do most of my mileage on motorways). Definitely an RTFM vehicle though, lots of hidden toys
  10. Ah if only! Of course here is where the rule of married fiscal policy comes in... I say "capital investment to help contribute to a more stress free lifestyle" - the Wife says "£400 on &^%&^% gadgets..." and mutters about how the roof needs fixing or how the kids need clothes.
  11. I just plugged the extension into the cigarette lighter and put the outlets between the passenger seat and handbrake. I found the article published previously about extension sockets here http://briskoda.net/forums/octavia-ii/where-put-extra-sockets-phone-holder/107090/ Nothing sophisticated at all
  12. Thanks for the pointer - bit of further digging found the following Skoda Octavia installation Which has the aftermarket adapter for Blaupunkt radios - anyone know if this works with non-BP units?
  13. I needed to extend the power supply options but took the really easy approach - a four way switchable extension (the switching being important because the cigarette lighter socket is live all of the time) and fitted it on the passenger side. In fact there was an article hereabouts on doing exactly this but hardwiring it in rather than just using the socket as I did. Had a quick look, but couldn't find it again - a forum search should find it... Simple, effective and requires absolutely no D-I-Y skills!
  14. I have also noticed that the Stream player is not great - not too bad but not great. Had a look around on e-bay and couldn't find any obviously suitable replacement units - I know there have been links for all-singing GPS MFD3 type devices but I'd really just like a decent sound system rather than being able to play DVDs etc. Oh and I don't really want to pay Skoda £500 for something either A supplementary question for me would be, how easy is it to get an adapter cable to allow any replacement unit to be controllable via the buttons on my multi-function steering wheel? I could buy a suitable cable for my previous Meriva (~ £80!!) but is there something similar, or would I need it anyway?
  15. Have just clocked up my first 1000 miles so not a long term road test I chose the 1.9 because of the economy, tax class and general comments hereabouts and elsewhere on reliability. It is quite noisy but so much that I find it an intrusion - but then I have my music quite loud
