  1. My problem is that if I use my neck muscles to support my head any further forward then I'll be looking at my feet - not an ideal driving position :p It looks like fiddling about with the seat position may be required - hopefully I'll not have to put it so far back that I fall asleep! Thanks all that replied Niki
  2. I've been compaining to hubby for the last few weeks - since getting our new Octy II - that the headrests are uncomfortable. It doesn't bother him - he's a slumper who goes nowhere near the headrest, but following a major back injury I have as near to perfect posture as it is possible to get. I've found some similar comments here and there, but thought it would be useful to get a feel for how many new owners feel the same as me, or otherwise. I work in IT and am well educated in posture ergonomics, and the way I feel with these headrests is that I am in for musculoskeletal injury in even the medium term they are so uncomfortable. Add to that that in a comfortable position for my neck my line of vision is the bottom of the dashboard, so the alternative to a sore neck is severe eye muscle strain. So come on and give me your opinion, as to whether the headrests are perfect and its me that's abnormal! :p
  3. We are doing regular daily 50 mile round trips to work - 25 miles rural, 25 miles urban, and getting a reasonably respectable 45 mpg in our 1.6 CR Estate. I would agree that the 1.6 CR isn't a mover and shaker in 1st and 2nd, but overall I have to say I love mine! Nice smooth drive. Only negative comment - which is why I came on here tonight for an info hunt, is that I find the new headrests REALLY uncomfortable. If I sit comfortably then my head is pushed so far forward that my natural line of sight is the middle of the steering wheel, so am constantly straining eyes looking upward to see the road ahead. And yes, I do have it adjusted as per instructions in the manual, with top lined up with top of head. Hubby finds it fine 'cause he's a sloucher whose head never goes near the headrest
  4. Hi I've just picked up my first ever brand new car - an Octavia II Estate I can see all the help bits and pieces on how to wash, how to wax etc, but I'm not sure what the overall best-practice is ... Should I be getting into the whole waxing bit, or is that just a luxury? I suspect I'm opening a can of worms even asking this question, but all perspectives welcome Cheers Niki
  5. I ordered my CR 1.6 estate with curtain air bags on 8th October 2009. Was finally built in January, and am still waiting for delivery almost 2 months later to Northern Ireland. :(
  6. Hi Would anyone out there who has purchased/ordered a new Skoda Octavia care to comment on their lead times? I placed my order for an Octavia CR 1.6 Estate with curtain air bags on 8th October 2009, and am still waiting for delivery. Yes - that is the correct date - this month celebrates me waiting 5 months for the delivery of my car, which was to have been delivered in December! According to the dealer the vehicle was finally built on 12th January, and I've now been waiting almost 2 months for delivery to Northern Ireland. I'm on the verge of telling them to cancel the order and go to another manufacturer. I have had any number of excuses, the most recent being that Skoda have been flooded with orders for new cars (funny how I have only ever seen ONE new model Octavia on the roads of Belfast!). Add to that, that the Belfast dealer, Mervyn Stewart, tried to squeeze the full £14k out of me in December, so that I could get it at the VAT free price, and claimed there had been a misunderstanding when I told them to cancel the order and give me my £750 deposit back. It's really sad that I have now paid off almost 1/6 of my car loan without ever having a car! Is Skoda going under? Is there a problem with the new CR? Or are Skoda just incompetent? Any comments out there guys? Niki
  7. Hi guys I have a horrendous back problem following a car accident a few years ago. I'm currently waiting for my new Octavia (due to be built Jan 14), and could do with some advice on upgrading seats. Other than upgrading to VRS seats (which I don't know whether it is an option), does anyone have recommendations for really supportive seats? I've rummaged online and what looks good on screen are sports recliners, but I have no experience in this line - anyone any hits or suggestions? Also, am I right in thinking that the thorax air bag in Octavias is mounted in the seat (so I'd lose those if I go for non-Skoda seats)? Many thanks, and a Merry Christmas to all! Niki
  8. Hi Is anyone willing to advise, please? I paid a £750 deposit to Mervyn Stewart in Belfast in September for a new Skoda Octavia, priced under the VAT-FREE deal. Delivery was to be about 6 weeks, but no car. They have now contacted me and told me that the car won't be available until Feb/March. Furthermore, the only way they will honour the price is if I pay the remaining £14,000 by 31 December. In these days of dodgy finance and companies going bust, is seems REALLY dodgy to me to pay almost £15K over to a company MONTHS before I actually get the car. I have emailed Skoda to clarify whether my contract is with them or the company, but no reply yet. What do you think guys - is this a dodgy franchised dealer? I was advised on the MoneySavingsExpert to come here and ask those in the know, but that poster also said the VAT free deal was extending into the new year - if so the dealer has definitely been telling porkies! Has anyone any advice? My inclination at the minute is to call the whole thing off and demand a refund of my deposit since they have broken the contract (the deposit receipt says "to be registered by 31st December" which is not happening). All advice welcome - thanks!
