  1. Hi! I have a power steering problem and wonder if anyone has any suggestions! It started 3 weeks ago...driving home I heard a buzzing from the passenger side dash area...next morning my power steering had gone and the light was on. I took it to my garage, as arrived there I hit the curb (oops! clearly not enough muscles for none power steering!) and miraculously the powersteering came back! Started it up again and the PAS had gone again and the light was on. VAGCOM could not connect to the car, I drove it for a while while I waited for the angle sensor to arrive and sure enough waiting in a queue of traffic the PAS suddenly came back on...it got me all the way home, but when started again the PAS was gone again and hasnt been back since. To date I have had 1 second hand and 1 new pump installed, two new angle sensors (in various combinations). One VAGCOM plug in (on a different system to the one that was unable to access my car) showed a fault with the ECU on the pump, since then though a new one has been fitted and still it doesnt work... Incidentally I have also noticed an interested issue with my central locking. When I clicked it of late I noticed the rear passenger door also opens as well as the drivers door and the speaker volume has become intermittent. A check of the wiring though showed no shorts and equally the PAS fluid is fine! I saw mention of an alternator problem, should I look there? should I give up!? These and many more questions I hope someone will have the answers too! Thank you!
  2. am in chesterfield. fitting coolant sensor this weekend hopefully so if that helps will let you know!
  3. thanks latal - think will look to replace that too! what have i got to lose!
  4. Hi Wass I am not in anyway an expert and this is purely a guess, but isnt the key sign to do with the key itself not being recognised?
  5. Hi Rob, Thanks for the input! YEs it is a short time between starts problem. It starts the morning after sitting on the drive al night and after sitting in the car park at work for 8 hours with no problem, but seems to have problems when I take a trip (perhaps of a certain distance) and then stop and re start the car within about 5 to 10 minutes. My spark plugs were checked recently and ruled out. I have just returned from the skoda dealer nearby (who did not sell me the car) with a new coolant sensor - which I found as a solution to other similar problems from other threads! I have to admit though - and perhaps worryingly - on the way to pick up the part I stopped at the garage for about 5 mins, then the parts shop itself and on neither occasion did the car refuse to start afterwards...I hope its just part of the problem being "intermittent" and not a sign I have just wasted £30 or that I have more serious problem! I hope to fit that in the next few days so will keep you posted how I fair!
  6. Mini update! - I pulled the fuse, which hushed the immediate problem! :P I then took it back to the garage i bought it from who replaced the alarm. However about 24 hours after I returned home - it went off again! i so, it now sits with the fuse pulled out "indefinitely" :(
  7. horkin - thanks for getting back to me! I have to admit (though am sure it is abundantly clear!) I am no mechanic either! the engine just kept sounding like it was almost about to start so in frustation i had tried the in gear approach and, yes, that had made me coast forward a little...generally it will start in second after several failed attempts. Am currently planning on trying the coolant sensor as suggested in a few posts I have read... Watch this space I guess! But of course if there are any other suggestions out there i would be more than happy to try them!
  8. I have a 1.4 16v Fabia and am having "warm start" issues with it. :( The first time it happened I went into the petrol station came out 5 mins later and it wouldnt start. Second time was when visiting relative - came out again 5 mins later and wouldnt start. Third time was when I dropped the dog off at the kennels - 5 mins later wouldnt start - AGH! As I was off on holiday that very day (and meant to be going in my car!) I had to abandon that plan and so it hasnt been driven since. It sounds like it is firing but won't actually progress to actually starting. I have noticed too that if you have it in gear and try to "drive as normal" it does edge along slightly as if something is getting through and there is a blockage. I have had it on a diagnositic and it reported no errors ...no idea what to do myself. I do have an alarm problem too though - it keep going off so I pulled the fuse. I have just spoken to my local Skoda garage who said they wanted it in for a while to experience the problem themselves and would then have to replace parts and see how they fair from there...! However, of course as a full time worker I need a little more of a sturdy plan than that! I can't just leave my car indefinitely...:( If anyone has any suggestions / advice / guidance / miracle cures I would be eternally grateful! Mushy
  9. Craig0031 - I am having the exact same problem with my car and it is a 1.4 16v fabia. am somewhat alarmed now. :( frirst time went into petrol station came out 5 mins later wouldnt start. then went to visit relative came out again 5 mins later and wouldnt start. most recent dropped dog off at kennels on way to holiday 5 mins later would start...AGH! sounds like it is firing but wont actually progress to actually starting. I have noticed too that if you have it in gear and try to "drive as normal" it does edge along slightly as if something is getting through and there is a blockage. I have had it on a diagnositic and it reported no errors either...no idea what to do myself. I do have an alarm problem too though - it keep going off so I puilled the fuse. If you come across a solution I would be interested to know?! equally if i do i will reply!
  10. Just reading through this post and am now alarmed as I have the 1.4 16v 100bp :( oh woe is me! plus since i got it it has been in and out the garage with an alarm that just kept going off (still happening), a knocking on the front wheel (ARB Link now fixed) a none funcitoning rear wipe (kind of fixed) and I now a have a broken sill on the window...joy! ad can I find out what they are officially called to get a replacement - no!
  11. Thanks for your replies guys. Ian Mine's a 2000 model. I do have a rear wash wipe problem too which I noted from other threads can be linked. But as the garage i bought it from is over an hours drive away i think i need a temp fix asap! Poor neighbours - i had to turn it off at 430 this morning and was only the one i actually heard and yesterday it went off randomly 3 times. the car is parked on my drive at the moment and it is here i have noticed the problem. the work car park is away from the building so i wouldnt notice there. i have taken desperate measures now and left the drivers door unlocked, but put my handbrake/gear stick lock on. we shall see if this cures it!
  12. Hi can someone please help me, before I have to be sectioned. I bought my used fabia all of last saturday and since then have been experiencing alarm issues - it keeps going off. At first I wasnt even aware it was mine as didnt know it had one. However, I have been off work today and left the keys easily accessible in the event the phantom alarm went off I could then run out to the car and turn it off. Well sure enough after the thrid time today, I realised it was mine. I have tried to deactivate the safe lock to turn off the alarm however it doesnt seem to work by either the key fob or the key in the door approach, in fact the only way i could get it to work was to be in the car and lock the car from the inside - this of course meant i couldnt go back in - so was, well pointless! Next I tried to remove the fuse. Helpfully, the manual gives me a number for the alarm - number 60 apparently, however when I finally got into the fuse area (which the manual told me was on the left of the dash, but was in fact on the right) of course none of the fuses are numbered in that sense they merely show the ampage...short of removing all fuses with 15 on them one by one I am at a complete loss as to what to do... Please, can anyone help me?
  13. Hi all! I have just entered the world of Skoda owners and am ashamed to say i stumbled across this site while trying to find advice on line about some possible electrical problems i have discovered in the 2 whole days since collecting my new toy!:( Anyway, it is nice to find you all! I shall be keeping a close eye ready to pick up anything i can!
