  1. Morning all, been having a look through forums - and now getting myself very confused at what to do. I don't think it's a hard question - I just know little about car audio systems. We have a Mk2 Octavia with the Bolero head unit - with CD changer. I have the Octavia model without arm rest - so there's not AUX input hidden away. Basically I want to install an aux connection - ideally mounting a female 3.5mm port into one of the blanks underneath the climate controls - so we can just run a male-male lead from a phone to play spotify etc. Can somebody point me in the direction of instructions on how to connect the socket into the back of the head unit please. Then I think I need to get somebody to recode the stereo - is that correct? I haven't actually removed the head unit to check the model number - but it looks like this type, that has the SD card slot in the middle at the bottom: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-YETI-OKTAVIA-BOLERO-RADIO-STEREO-HEAD-UNIT-CODE-INCLUDED/184394619712?hash=item2aeec69b40:g:Ky4AAOSwULNfLxF6 Any help much appreciated thanks. Keith
  2. Yeah - that was my fear. Presumably the option is to get a used part (and is it possible to get this sprayed to match) or what else - go to a dealer? Keith
  3. Hi I'm looking for some advice on a dent which we've sustained to the boot on our octavia. See pics attached, it's a roughly vertical dent but has taken paint off on the upper edge of the boot. Any views on difficulty and cost of getting a repair done? Thanks Keith
  4. Hi I'm trying to find some roof bars for my 2012 Octavia hatchback. I've tracked down some OEM roofbars that are from pre-facelift time Anyone know if these would fit my car? Thanks for help Keith
  5. Hmm. Unless I'm missing something then there are a few available through the approved skoda search. Anyway I'll see if there's anything nearby i can try before buying, see how i get on. Thanks for the replies. Keith
  6. Thanks for the slight diversion into Smart cars! Actually now I find myself wondering if I shouldn't pick up a 2011 1.6 MPI, which Jevpls mentioned earlier. Looks to me like they can be got for about 5k and might be adequate for what we need. I'll have a read up on other posts about pros and cons, and what to look for if I end up plumping for a tsi. Keith
  7. Thanks for the responses and comments. I've been driving a 1.2 Fabia Mk1 estate with 54 bhp for the last 7 years - speed is not a major issue to me! Rationale for this vehicle - Fabia has been great, but getting a bit old and costly to maintain. ALso the kids are getting bigger (we're quite a tall family). Driving pattern - wife uses car for work, maybe 6-8 trips each day <5miles each during the week. Longer trips up to Scotland to visit family 3-4 times a year. Typically holiday in the UK, so every year we put about 1500 miles on it over the course of 2 weeks. Considered an estate - but I don't think our pattern of use justifies it. On holidays we'll fill the car and attach a roof box. Would prefer petrol as 1) I'm bothered by environmental impact of increased diesel usage in cities, and 2) our mechanic used to run a fleet of diesel Octavias as taxis - reckoned for our usage pattern diesel wasn't cost-effective and didn't suit a diesel engine. I'm needing a bit more space, and decent reliability - they are the priorities. Any good reasons as to why a 1.2/1.4 wouldn't fit the bill I'd be interested in - or any other suggestions on models. Probably looking to spend no more than £8-10k from an approved dealer though. Keith
  8. Hi, I'm planning to replace our ancient Fabia in the next couple of months, I plan to get a used Octavia Hatchback - probably 2011 or 2012, 1.2 or 1.4 petrol version depending on what I can find. For the money we've got I expect I'll be getting something with around 40k on the clock. Are there any major service items I should be checking have been carried out for this type/age of car - or any advice on other thing to be aware of? I plan to buy from an approved dealer. thanks in advance for suggestions/comments. Keith
  9. Thanks for the replies. Been mainly looking at used SEs - which I'd like to think include a glove box lid. To be honest, the idea that this was an optional item hadn't even occurred to me. I'll do a bit more research on some of the differences. Panoramic roof and roof bars are two things that I'd like to make sure are on the model we get. Keith
  10. Hi, our Mk 1 Fabia is starting to get a bit creaky - it's been a great car over the last 7 years or so having cost hardly anything to maintain, and cranking up around 130k miles. I'm looking for something to replace it which will serve as a family car for me, wife and 2 young kids. Mostly city driving, although with 3-4 longer journeys each year, when it'll be loaded up with camping gear etc. I've been having a quick look at used Roomsters. I see I can get a 1.2 petrol 2011 version, with less than 20k miles on the clock for around £7k. Does anyone have a view on whether these are reliable, good value etc - and anything I should be looking out for when buying this kind of model/mileage? any advice gratefully received. Keith
  11. Hi. I realised I'd forgotten to mention that it's an estate I've got, which probably makes a difference. I checked the fuses yesterday and no 31 had gone, marked as central locking boot. I replaced this but it's still not opening. Does this suggest a part in the locking mechanism has gone, and any suggestions which it's likely to be? I've seen various references to the solenoid failing, does this sound likely? Thanks, keith.
  12. Thanks for the replies. On the first two comments - I tried holding the middle fob button for longer - to the point where there is a flash from the yellow indicator lights (like when the car is locked/unlocked) but still nothing from the boot. Strangely I can't hear anything to indicate that the mechanism is trying to operate - so I've ruled out something like a mechanical issue blocking the release. I don't usually use the key fob button - usually I just unlock the whole car, and when I squeeze the handle above the numberplate I can usually feel the mechanical resistance of the mechanism to open the boot. Now it is just not there - so the boot feels like it does when the car is locked. Any more ideas out there? Thanks Keith
  13. Hi I had a quick search about this, but didn't quite find what I need. All of a sudden yesterday I could no longer open the boot of my Fabia 1. The rest of the central locking is working fine. When the car is unlocked the button/level above the rear numberplate doesn't open the boot. Pressing the middle key-fob button has no effect. I can open the boot from the inside - the mechanism looks to be fine. I can't hear any noises when I press the middle key-fob button. Some previous posts have mentioned fuse problems - but all internal lights, including the one for the boot, appear to be working properly. The inside light comes on when I open the driver side door. Has anybody any thoughts on what the problem is, and how to fix it? Thanks Keith
  14. I'll maybe try to investigate connections - although I assume this'll involve getting under the car. Had a look at BBA-Reman and they appear to sell the pump - but I'll need to check part numbers. Thanks for your help. Keith
