  1. Yes. I don't have CD player in mine, but the media unit failed a couple of days after I took delivery. Very embarrassed dealer and soon replaced under guarantee. My neighbour's work colleague has a Superb, same problem.
  2. Same thing happened on one of my Golfs. New clutch master cylinder under warranty and it was fine thereafter.
  3. I did exactly the same thing one year ago. I've driven both, but only a 1.4 demonstrator on a test drive, because 1.5s weren't available. I bought a 1.5 SE DSG and I love it. I fancy it's a bit more gutsy than I remember the 1.4.
  4. Does FM or AM work? If they do, then the antenna is probably OK. Might just be switch off for a bit or a reset. DAB radios are clever, but complicated and a software glitch can take them out.
  5. I feel your pain, mine is exactly the same and I think we'll have to wait for a firmware update.
  6. I do about the same mileage. I changed from a 10 year old 1.9TDI to a 1.5 Petrol DSG 4 months ago (diesel scrappage). I'd go for petrol. I get about forty mpg running around locally and mid fifties on a decent run.
  7. I got a 1.5 DSG SE hatch a few weeks ago and it's brilliant. After the 1.9 diesel Octavia that I'd been driving for the past 10 years, it's a bit quick, more comfortable and easy to drive. Love it! Bob
  8. Happened on my former VW Golf and was quite a common problem. Dealer fixed mine in an hour under guarantee and I think it was a new master cylinder, but not absolutely certain.
  9. I'm thinking it's a petrol engine if it gets to 6000 revs. Had similar problem with a Golf. My money's on the coolant temperature sensor. I called out the VW rescue people, he disconnected the sensor (the engine runs OK without it connected) and the local dealer replaced it a few days later.
  10. My wife used to have the same problem, then I realised that she wasn't pushing the gear lever firmly enough over to the left when shifting from first to second and I guess it occasionally missed the gate. After a little tactful instruction, no problem at all now!
  11. I'd have a really good look at all the connections. Make sure the connector pins are clean and they snap together firmly and lock properly. Modern electronics is usually pretty good, but connector technology is often the weak link. Ideally you want some proper aerosol switch cleaner, but meths will do if you find any obviously dirty pins or sockets.
  12. Halford sell a kit for the Octavia. Can't comment on it, just seen them in the store.
  13. Worth getting it checked, just in case. I had something similar with my 1.9 TDI. Dropped it into my local dealer (Garlands, Aldershot). They had it for a morning, put it up on the ramp, checked it, the service manager took it out for a test drive and then phoned me saying they couldn't find anything wrong. Collected the car and the noise had indeed disappeared, so just one of those odd noises that happens I guess.
  14. This sounds like a problem that's been covered on here before. I had the same thing happen to my last Golf, pulled the pedal up off the floor and it worked for a bit, then failed again. Went to the dealer and they fitted a new clutch master cylinder under warranty, which took less than an hour, while I waited and drank their coffee.
  15. The Mobil website says it meets VW507: http://www.mobil.com/UK-English/Lubes/PDS/GLXXENPVLMOMobil_1_ESP_Formula_5W-30.asp So should be fine.
