  1. I would be really concerned on this one, if it was an insurance job then air bags etc would have been replaced under insurance, but the guy has abviously cut corners to get the car back on the road so what else isn't right? are you sure those air bags are good? did he get them second hand? I belive the law is now on your side about this even for private sales and he as obviously hidden some very dangerous facts about this car from you. i would want my money back if i was you. please getthe car checked out by a proper garage, it's your life and safety here.
  2. I had a Problem with the door when i first got my 04 fabia, took it to the dealer i got it from and they said they had "adjusted" the door!!! it seemed to me that it was coming from the top of the drivers door so maybe the seal was gone and they changed it but never got a satisfactory answer, if the wind is blowing in the right direction i still get a bit of noise but nothing like i used to. don't block those vents up they are really useful and i do'nt think they will make much of a change for you Tom
  3. i'll get hold of another relay and see if it does anything, only anoying thing is that it has fixed it's self before and then been fine and then done it again, so my worry is if i change the relay and it starts ok will that be it fixed or will it do it again! i guess i could try and test the glowplugs, how easy is it to get to the glowplugs? mind you i could always just take the plug off and stick a meter on it.
  4. Hi Guys have been having problems with the engine cutting out, this was down no fuel in the engine, i originally had an error for the fuel pump relay, i have now replaced that on the off chance but it's has got much worse now and car doesn't get any fuel at all. aa came out and were really helpful this time, we narrowed it down to the pump not getting power, he proved this by running a wire from the live at the relay to the live at the pump and hay presto it worked. the main problem is we can't work out where the power is being stopped, the wiring diagram on his laptop says that the fuel pump relay gets a feed from the glow plug relay and both are connectewd to the ecu on seperate pins, but if the glow plug relay was faulty then i would be having trouble starting the car in the morning, but it's a first turn instant fire type of car so can't imagine that there is a fault in the glow plug relay, so we think it's probably a wire somewhere thats either loose or a dry solder somewhere. I am planing to find a switched live in the fuse pannel and then run a cable all the way to the fuel pump with an inline 15A fuse. can anyone think of a problem with this or has anyone seen a similar problem that they have managed to find the break? i don't know wheather to just try the glow plug relay just on the off chance, but it would have to be a new one as i can't find any old relay's any thoughts cheers Tom
  5. HI Guys only slightly off topic on this one. I have been looking high and low for a scrap yard that has any MK1 fabia's in Fife there has been a few times i have wanted a part but can't get hold of any because i can't find a scrappy. Does any one know of one in the area? preferably more west fife than east fife. cheers Tom
  6. Thats great, i'll keep the pic for future use, why don't skoda or haynes just put this in the manual? would have saved me quite a bit of time. I think i have a relay that will replace it, i'll give it a go and see what happens thanks again. Tom
  7. it's an 04 plate i belive it was just before they changed the models slightly as i don't have AC in mine but ti think they changed it to a standard on the comfort in 2004 are the relays faily generic or is it done on amps etc? really appreciate the help cheers Tom
  8. hi i have a fabia MK1 1.9.tdi I have had problems with the warning light on the dash comming on, so read the code and got 17932 - Fuel Pump Relay (J17): Open or Short to Ground P1524 - 35-00 - - The engine has cut out on me twice now so i figure it's time i fixed it. But the problem is after i dismantled half the dash to get to the relays in the car i can't tell which one the relays the fuel pump relay is. does anyone know how to identify which one it is? I thought about just pulling a relay as seeing what it does but thought that might be a little risky. i know it says j17 in the fault code but not sure if thats the location on the relay or just something else there isn't many relays (4 i think) so can anyone help? cheers Tom
  9. cheers for the replys, I know the battery is only 3 years old and it's a heavy duty one, it's been doing it for a while, but i'll get it checked anyway just to be sure. why on earth would they put the relays in such a dumb place, I think that part of the dash is only held on with 3 or 4 screws so i'll try and check under tonight if i get time. haynes was no help at all and niether was the users manual they just wouldn't tell me where the relays are. cheers Tom
  10. Hi i have a 1.9 tdi comfort, the eml has come on a few times over the last few months but by the time i get the vag-com on it the light has gone off and no codes but i managed to get the vag-com on tonight and get the codes read and got 17932 - Fuel Pump Relay (J17): Open or Short to Ground P1524 - 35-00 - - now question is, is this likely to be the relay and if so where on earth is it or is it going to be something else. apart from the light going on i have no other symptoms apart from when the car is first starts the lights are dim for a very short time then i hear a click and they get brighter, also during the cold spell the wipers woudln't work straight off in the morning some times but a few 100 yards and a click later the were back to normal. cheers Tom
  11. i am not sure how much the garage changed out when they did it, i would imagine it was just the thermostat as it was a warrenty job. i was going to block half the grill but wasn't sure of what was best to use, and the temp guage never goes over the half way mark so i know the thermostat is doing something at least it's not going to ruin the engine by over heating. i find it interesting that some people have noticed the same problem with the car but not others, i can't imagine that people would put up with it in colder countries where this sort of temperature is normal, so it still feels as if it's more like a fault. cheers Tom
  12. they replaced the thermostat (or what ever it's called now) when i first brought to there attention but it made no differance at all so don't think it can be that, the air recirc was a great idea it speeded up the initial warm up, forgot it was on at one point and noticed the windows were starting to mist but by then the engine was warm enough so i put it back to normal. i would love a propper fix to this, i would get the thermostat changed again but with funds low i am reluctant to just go and do it a risk no change a t all again. to be fair it's not like it gets this cold very often and most of the time the temp in the car is spot on, so might just live with the air recirc, car is due a chnage in a few years. my wife has a vectra estate which doesn't have the same problem but the eninges are so different that it's almost not worth compainring them in this respect cheers Tom
  13. good idea, i'll be sat in traffic on the way home, i'll give that a go then, it didn't ocur to me to use that as i normally shy away from it as it makes the car hot and misty in the summer (should have thought about the hot) cheers Tom
  14. it makes me feel better that it's not just my car. thank you it's a pitty really, i was trying to think of ways to stop the engine from llosing heat, like partialy blocking the front grill but that wouldn't help in queue's! cheers Tom
  15. HI I have noticed a problem that only happend when it's cold so i have to wait each year to try and fix it, it's basicly a problem with keeping heat in the engine, I wondered if someone else with a 1.9 tdi can let me know if they have the same problem. during the cold spells once the temp gets down bellow 5c i have the heating full on, if i am sat in a a queue of traffic with the fan on 1 then the engine temp starts to go down and it starts to get cold in the car, i have to build the revs up slightly to keep any heat comming out. in the current weather conditions if i am friving at 50 to 60 with heat on full and fan on 2 the engine starts to cool down, if i am doing 70+ it seems fine and i can keep blower on 2 but not above as the engine starts to cool down. when i fist got the car a few years a go, i bought it at end of feb so didn't notice the problem, I only noticed it near the end of the 1 year warrenty, so they only managed to replace the thermostat ( i know it's not got one of them but they replaced what ever it is that used to be the thermostat) this hasn't made any difference. has anyone else seen this or have this problem as well. thanks in advance Tom
