  1. thats very helpful, thank you. Any suggestions for disk and pad manufactures, looking at pagid at moment.
  2. Its new front pads and disks time, anyone have the correct part number for front disks and pads for an Octavia VRS FL CR? Euro car parts have several options of the registration number so trying to narrow it down. Thanks.
  3. I had a similar Issue last year with my CR. Long journeys commuting at weekends 3hrs plus. No DPF lights on dash, DPF clogged completely and back pressure caused turbo pipe to pop off. Luckily covered by warranty but is was touch and go. It was thought that the DPF sensor and exhaust sensor had failed but not light on dash illuminated. Part numbers have since been changed which says a lot! :-/!. No problems since thank god. I retreat getting the petrol. DPF is To complicated.
  4. Wondered if anyone can advise on juddering under hard acceleration. In straight line through the revs at full throttle or near full throttle (slip road, hard shoulder or of roundabout type conditions) i get slight juddering through the wheel, not overly severe but still noticeable, tyres are 3 months old (rainsport 2s) at right pressure and balance has been checked but hasnt solved it, tracking is in tolerance after 4 wheel alignment. At cruise its not present and it normally starts at 40+. Cars done 22000 miles. Thanks.
  5. Awsome scenery even in the fog, reminds me of N Wales. I wouldnt consider RWD in the UK, most roads in the UK they are greasy in the dry in summer never mind before the winter ice and weather starts up, in North Amrerican or many europen road which are very smooth and compared to the uk and dont have the ice and pothols that we do here. Haven't BMW started producing 4WD for European market now? Wonder if this guy had converted his Lambo to RWD??
  6. Its certaily the better drive and imagine it would be great fun on my 150 mile weekend friday afternoon commute. The main question thats worrying me is the MPG - its great buying a car like that but I do 14000 miles a year and pointless if 12 months later its costing too much to run and you cant afford to run it. Audi State 33.6 MPG whish is optemistic, think most are getting 28mpg!, before somone mentions the usual "you shouldnt be buying a car like that if your worried about MPG" I think thats a bit of silly attitude as pump prices aint comming down and unless your very rich most people will ask that question in all henesty. Thats my sensilbe head talking, in reality I'd happly go and buy one now and enjoy it for what it is..
  7. I cant tell if your being serious or an element of sarcasm Babs :-)
  8. Lot of sense spoken on here and in reality on uk roads comparing cars of this performance is intersting but hypothetical at best, by the time you take into account road conditions, how many doughnuts or Georges case bacon roles have been eaten :-), bags or bodies in the boot etc..., traffic and everything else we would all be doing ludicrous speeds anyway, as Jonno and others have said real world driving and personally driving enjoy enjoyment is the important thing and I personallly got more enjoyment and felt safer due to the quattro in the S3. Interestingly though I looked at A4 3.0 TDI DSG Quattro used prices and there are several high spec low millage dealer approved 3 year old examples appearing for the same price as an S3, never driven one though but 240 bhp, lots of torque and remapable up to 270bhp and god knows how much torque!!!! That would be a very progressive car but a bit boring I'd imagine...
  9. Great thread guys (thanks for all the input) im thinking the S3 wont be a practical as the VRS but in sportsback form its more than practical enough for a 26 yo with no kids to fit in it. They seem to be in high regard by those who have driven them and most (not all) admit they would own one if they didn't have the Octavia for other reasons (family and boot space etc..) I'm thinking I should look around for a quality S3 in Blue obviously as its the best color ;-) at the right price and millage and enjoy it when I can.The used price even for low millage ones are coming down and details on new s3 has just been relieved so that should drop prices more :-), anyone have any warranty advice for 3 yo cars? I have 4 month in the dessert to think about it and will look around when I get back and look at DSG TSI VRS too.. From the performance POV I do find it hard to believe the S3 is heavier than the Octavia though, I'm not disbelieving the stats posts on here but in reality it just felt lighter and more nimble which could be blamed on the Octavia massive boot as cars with an arse often feel heavy. As with the VRS the S3 doesn't have to be driven hard all the time and I hope I can live with the 30 if I'm lucky mpg!!! Which isn't bad considering the performance. One persons mentioned coking on this engine, how bag an issue was it?? As far as remapping the VRS petrol goes I'm sure they remap beautifully and are similar to standard S3s performance but 250+ BHP through the front wheels only doesn't appeal to me tbh, that's a lot of work for 2 pieces of rubber and I know the diesel is bad enough on our greasy roads.
  10. God you leave a thread alone for a few hours and look what happens ;-), seriously though thanks for info, all interesting reading. To clarify Babs- no I have no I'm not asking if the tractor will close the gap on an S3 as I have driven a CR shark remapped 170 and although it was nippy the S3 blew it out the water, it was the way it put the power down that impressed me, no wheel spin, and the Octavia felt a LOT heavier in the corners, not torque surge, just smooth constant push and a nice engine note. If I acquired an S3 I would probably leave it standard at least for a while. An S4 wound be nice but again the price goes up with it.
  11. Ive heard they are high up the criminal most wanted list and a tracker may be needed, seems to be a good get away car apparently and I can see why tbh. I agree on the £19000 price tag is usual main dealer profiteering, would hope to knock them down if a deal was struck. An RS4 would be amazing but a friend has one and the running costs are high the S3 doesn't seem that bad. The new A3 is out now but S3 is still years off apparently. It just felt completely safe and planted and made effortless progress. Really should try a DSG octavia for comparison though.
  12. Hello guys, bit of brain storming going on here. Im currently driving a 11 months old CR VRS my 3rd vrs but had a few issues with it and its left me feeling a bit numb towards it, as well as that I wish Id have bought the DSG TFSI instead as I dont have as much fun in the CR as the old petrol VRS I had before that I regret selling. Anyway a few days ago I stupidly test drove a higher millage Audi s3 (45000 miles) and to my surprise it felt as tight as new but they are still expensive and hold there value at just under £20000!! I know they are not comparable models but to be honest I can see why the S3 have a following, I was very impressed with the drive and handling and as I do under 15000 miles a year I'm now considering selling mine on and getting an S3, I could cope with a smaller car. Anyone on here owned either the S3 and or petrol VRS with DSG or even driven both as opinions are welcome. Ive Never driven a dsg petrol and none of the local dealers have one and Im wondering if a good remap or from REVO for example would close the gap between the VRS and S3. Thanks..

  15. Judging by the speed it caught up with the vectra I don't think it was the diesel cr 170. A police friend.still maintains the pd 170 vrs are remapped but they are getting on now so they may now buy faster stuff in the first place. V6 superb defiantly fits that bill and it blends in.
