  1. it did need a rack in the end, managed to get a new one supplied and fitted for 375 at a friend of a friends garage. New one has internal sensor also. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  2. Will do thanks, any idea what a reasonable price is for supply and fit of a rack, looks like the setup would be tricky for a non specialist garage. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  3. Hi, Thanks, the car is an early model Mk2 Elegance with the 2.0TDI 140. I checked fuse 3 already and that was fine, I'm not familiar with the eBox, the car was scanned at the local Skoda garage but they didn't tell me what the codes were and I have no way of checking myself :( I hear what you're saying about it failing a day later but its a mighty co-incidence if it is unrelated. Dave
  4. Hi, I need some advice, I just put my 54 Octavia in for a service and it needed the front bearings replacing (fair enough, it was very noisy), when I got it back it drove home fine but the next morning I switched on and the red PAS warning light came on, I took it back and they have said I need to replace the rack as the torque sensor is dead and its internal to the rack. The steering is naturally really heavy and whilst its just driveable its not safe as quick evasive steering just isn't possible. I know things die from time to time but I'm finding it hard to believe that the PAS torque sensor just happened to die at the same. This is not a cheap fix so I'm naturally reluctant to proceed without some impartial advice. I took it to a different garage (a Skoda one), but they were reluctact to get involved in diagnosis as another garage did the work. I'm hoping there is a reset or recalibration which has been missed or something else which can be done here. Advice greatly appreciated. Dave
  5. Does anyone know if its possible to get the front passenger seat to lay completely flat with the back seats folded down? I fly model planes as a hobby and its a real pain as with the back seats down and the front seat tipped back (without headrest), it is a few inches overlapped and leaves you with a very uneven surface for loading long items in the car, had the same issue when I loaded some 2.4metre wood into the car, it sort of just rocks on the lump created. Maybe I'm missing something but its doing my head in. Luckily with the front seats all the way forward, the load length just exceeds 2metres which is more than a Ford Galaxy! Is the Octy Estate any better? The overall length of the car is the same I think and all you gain is the height which doesn't help me. Maybe the rear seats can be removed from the car all together? I don't fancy selling it or buying a van, its a 2.0TDI Elegance and I literally use it for commuting, transporting my planes and loading it up to the top when we go touring the UK for holidays, reliable and at 5 years old with 53k on the clock its got plenty of life left hence I'm trying to make do but wondered if others have solutions so loading long narrow loads? Thanks
  6. Quick update: I sent my paper licence off to be replaced, got a nice new shiny photocard licence back 3 days later, then sent off the information about the driver, in this case me, got a conditional offer of 3 points and £60 as many people said. Couldn't have turned out better really. Thanks for everyones input.
  7. I was also thinking of doing this as the paper one is very tatty and may be considered defaced.
  8. Precisely, not like I was deliberately hiding anything, the car is fully MOT'd, insured and registered to my address, of course, the MOT was due to run out the same week I was caught, damn lucky I got it renewed in time I suppose. All my paper work is perfectly up to date and legit except my licence is ancient and falling to peices. Suppose I could always leave it until the end of the required 30 days to send the letter back and get a new photo licence in the mean time if it was really an issue.
  9. The letter I have at present says I must say who was driving, it also goes on to say if the address on my licence is incorrect that I mustn't apply for a new one now and instead write a covering letter and they'll pass the licence to the DVLA on its way back to me, but I doubt that counts for converting paper ones to photo ones.
  10. It was a mobile one on a van in a bridge, got access to a lovely online picture, apparently I was 550 metres away from him when he got me, I'm pretty sure I'm lucky it wasnt 1000 metres! Will the licence not being up to date be a problem, its my original paper one from 12 years ago, i moved 4 years ago, surely they can check when I moved and lying to say it was 2 months ago will only make things worse. Was defo 70mph, said so on the letter, I always stick to the limit in roadworks so i'm 100% it wasnt in roadworks. Especially as most of them have average speed limit cameras now.
  11. Just got a letter today saying I was doing 93mph on the M4 in Wiltshire coming back from holiday. Just had a read of another thread when the guy got £250 and 6 points for 109 on the motorway so I thought I'd ask what I might expect from this? I've been driving 12 years and never had any points or fines at all, only problem is my licence has an address I left 4 years ago, will that count as another offence? Is there any point getting a solicitor, I've not had to go to court before but I'd imagine they've heard all of the excuses so its a matter of just turning up, saying you wont do it again, not giving any silly reasons and taking your punishment. Ironic, all the stupid things I did when I was in my early twenties and driving heavily tuned cars and I go and get caught doing 93mph coming back from holiday in my Octy Elegance!
  12. So what can I do to maintain these? I was also thinking of just getting hold of a "Stream MP3", how about the MFD2's and 3's?
  13. Oh, thats not so bad then, I might just get a nice kenwood touch screen jobby with a suitable surround then. Can live with just the bleeps, shouldnt be looking at the dashboard when parking anyway! Is there anything else that comes up on the stereo screen that i'd miss, the car isnt maxidot either.
  14. I'm picking up my 54 plate octy elegance on Monday, the standard stereo has the reversing sensors built into the display on it, if I replace it with an off the shelf unit the dealer said I'd lose the visual display AND the warning tones, is this correct? Failing that is there a Skoda head unit that will display the reversing sensor warnings? Or is the dealer wrong, will I still get the audible tone with the head unit removed?
  15. I'm about to buy a 54 Fabia Elegance, it has the standard head unit which doesnt play mp3's. I want to replace it with an aftermarket one or preferably a Skoda/VW equivelent which will play mp3's... ...but the dealer says that as the reversing sensors and some other things are linked into it that I would lose the functionality, its both audible and visual reversing sensors, is there a way around this or an approved HU which will fit straight in which will maintain this? Will the MFD2 do this?
