  1. I have two warning lights (Eng management and EPC) and a very loud humming noise..... EPC - is this related to bulbs? Yesterday I had to replace both brake lights and was driving with none in while I travelled to the local Halfords. At this point, the EPC light came on. Is this likely to be the reason for the EPC? Eng management - intermittantly on and off..... Humming - the noise is loud and quite a high pitch (like the squeek on a buses breaks) and comes from the rear light. I dont get it all of the time and can start out of nowhere. It is extremely loud on the motorway and very irritating. The noise stops when I brake but the brakes arent binding. I drove with the window down to hear it and it is very audible from the outside. The noise does not change pitch but could it be a bearing? Any other ideas? I need some good advice cos its getting me down!
  2. Will give this a try tonight 'cos I just wasnt having any luck yesterday! The light on the cable flashed but when I go to OBD-II Function, and do compatability test, it says test complete and that my car is NOT ISO/OBD-II Compatinle! It’s a 2000 Fabia Comfort 1.4 16V. I just used COM3 described above and when I do for example a test of engine controller, it says no response from controller. Hope this driver sorts it!
  3. I think it is a driver problem because when its connected, I cannot see it anywhere within device manager. Its an ecutools.com cable from ebay. My instincts tell me that there is a problem with the cable itself as it should appear in device manager, driver or not!
  4. First off - I tried running it when plugged into the car but it said there was no response - doubt the car is at fault there! Secondly - I got a driver with the CD but when I double click the .exe file, it opens up an uninstaller, which if I click ok, says there is no file. Im not sure how to activate the driver installation. Thirdly - I havent tried dumb mode but what difference does this make? Do you have to register the program for it to run in non dumb mode? Cheers
  5. How do you view serial cables in Device Manager? On COM3 I get: Port Status: Ok Interface: Found! Type: Serial Pass Through Opto/Iso: No Ross-Tech Design: No I got it off ebay and the guy said to make sure Im choosing the right port. I would have thought I would select USB.
  6. Hello, today I received my VAG COM cable and software but Im having problems getting it working. When I do the line test, it says that the port is ok but nothing for the interface. When I plugged the cable in, it did not ask for a driver to be installed but does the cable need a driver to work? It has COM ports 1-4, then a USB selection but doesnt seem to work. Anyone got any ideas or had similar problems?
  7. Have you had your emission levels checked? Just as they would for an MOT? When I had air/oil filters changed and injectors flushed, that put the light off for a couple of months and the emissions dropped a long way. They might work for you but I think mine could be related to what yours has had done.
  8. I just got an amazing deal on an electric mirror switch - £11.50 delivered - from ebay. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone has any experience from fitting them? Im guessing its quite straightforward.
  9. Hi mate, I dont know if you have read my post 'Engine Management - Advice Needed' but it sounds VERY familiar! Mine is the exact same model but 2000 with 98k on the clock. The light has been doing my head in..... I am a million miles from being a mechanic but how easy is this stuff to do? Whats needed to do it? How long does it take? Im due an MOT in Jan.
  10. Thanks. Ive just ordered a VAG COM from ebay (didnt realise they were so cheap) so will check it then let you know my results. If, for example, it is saying its emissions. Is it possible to use the program to reset it, and the light will go out?
  11. Thanks gents, appreciate the feedback. Whats an EGR fault? Infrequently, for unknown reasons, on tickover, the revs can bounce but if I dump the throttle a bit, it stops. That what you get? I dont know what the exact error code was but the guy in Skoda said it was emissions. (Ive had my fuel mixture adjusted also). I dont want to go back to Skoda cos its £65 just for a diagnostics, but dont know anywhere local. I just dont know whether to ignore it or not......
  12. Morning folks, not the best start to a monday morning but my engine management light came on this morning. Ive had it into the garage 3 times for this fault, the first time having a diagnostics which said my emissions were too high. Being told by that dealer that my piston rings were shot (didnt believe them), I took the car elsewhere. I have since had a full oil replacement, injectors/cylinders flushed and, new air and oil filters taking the emissions below those expected to pass an MOT. The light has since been on and off twice in this time, and again this morning. What would peoples guesses be - lambda sensor? Its a 2000 1.4 16V Comfort, 98000 miles. Can anyone recommend a cheap and reliable garage in the Glasgow/East Kilbride area? I really hope you can offer me advice, Im a bit worried.
  13. When I pull the catch next to the headrest, there is no resistance so the connection between the main catch and the component must be broken. Is the catch next to the headrest easy to remove? I didnt want to pull anything too hard and break it!
  14. Hi guys, I have a bit of a problem. The rear folding seat (the 60 split side) catch is broken - any ideas how I might be able to sort this as I cant really see a way of getting into it? Also, would it be an expensive fix? Cheers Martin
  15. Hello, Ive posted a question regarding my Fabia's central locking in the Fabia section, do you think your fix would be relevant to this? Martin
