  1. Hi Scooby Chris why are you still posting on a Skoda website? thank god someone else understands so what da reckon stick with it or pass it on? ive still got a bit of value there before its worth sod all!
  2. Hi Stopan funny you say about reviews telling people to avoid old 8v engines I read somewhere on here I think that the 8V were better engines, but you are right I dont think they are!! anyway you cant beat a new car!
  3. Well now I think I will go and buy a VRS Fabia brand new in that case!! trade in for mine now 54,000 miles - good condition ?? anyone
  4. thanks for your comments - i think ive just been very lucky with other cars in the past - had problem free experiences and ones I had just not really researched just bought on gut feeling, its just a bit annoying that I did my homework this time and Ive had so many problems, its obviously luck of the draw so to speak - and I didn't think a 5 year car in this day of car production was very old and with modern technology they are built for reliable service of at least 10 years. Anyway, I am not a car expert but you have convinced me to stick with the car - i cant really afford a new one but i did think about buying a Honda Civic 5 year old with whatever money I got from Fabia. I wish Id got a Honda now or is that all overated rumour on their reliability? Thanks guys I appreciate the comments keep em coming! ps do you Skoda drivers ever take your cars to non dealer garages - Im beginning to think Skoda dealers aren't any more efficient than the back street mechanic? and expensive too!!
  5. Hi I have Fabia 1.4 8V MPI X reg after previous owning a Toyota Rav 4 and in just one year I have had nothing but problems - sensor lights powering steering replacement , temp sensors replaced, injectors replacing after a full service costing £480!! another £141 the following week for injectors??which initially was diagnosed by Skoda dealer to be a coil kit problem which was fitted and removed and injectors were replaced..... I just wondered if other Fabia drivers have experienced ongoing problems with these cars? I was reluctant to change my vehicle but did so to save on fuel costs and spent 6 months researching reliable cars studying mags, Which reports, Top Gear website etc and it was between Yaris and Fabia in the end, I plumpt for the Skoda because of extra room in boot and its a far heavier solid car BUT reliable ?after owing one for just over a year Im wondering if I made a good choice. I love driving the Fabia very easy and comfortable but should I sell on before I get more problems or do you think after a 5 years it has replaced parts to go problem free? would be grateful for any honest comments.
  6. Hi Stealthmaker Just wondered how you got on with coolant problem, mine coolant started to go down quickly - only topped it up 3 weeks ago and had to top up again today sensor came on. Is it due to cold wealther maybe? Ive recently had temperature sensor replaced which then told me the temperature housing was faulty and that was replaced a week later, anyway hope you see this message so you can let me know how you got on. tracey
  7. it looks too difficult I might not bother!! have read the link - thanx for that - if i get it do you think a nice Skoda dealer will put it on for FREE!!
  8. Hi Fabiafreaks I havent posted in a while only when I need good advice on my precious Fabia.Hopefully youll remember me! yes, its another gearknob question, I have a thing about them.... Ok Ive only got a boring Classic 1.4 Fabia (I know this is a predominately Vrs site! one day I will own one!) but you see Ive seen a gorgeous knob for sale on Ebay hopefully to replace the boring plastic black one. It is a chrome mesh sporty logo one and the seller says it should fit all Skodas if my shaft is no longer than 14 mm it will fit BUT I cant get the thing off to measure!!. Firstly, how do I get it off? (cough) does it screw off ? Has anyone already replaced their knob and know what I am talking about - will it fit? I want to bid on it soon! Your earliest reponse will be grateful! I know I have set myself for a backlash of rude comments so dont worry about offending me....again....... cheers guys! :airjock: AND DONT ANYONE BID ON IT CAUSE ILL KNOW ITS ONE OF YOU! ps I have had 3 sensors on my dashboard pack up in the 6 months of owning the car but I still love it to bits!!
  9. Very incovenient too! after handing over all that money and now the time spent faffing to correct their bodge - at least ask for a tank of petrol for your trouble!! I think when you buy a new car everything as to be in perfect working order if they are asking for 'new car money'. dont take any ****.
  10. Hi everyone, hope everyone is well. Haven't been on for a while but need reassuring. Few weeks ago the 'Electronic engine management ' warning light came on dashboard of my Fabia 1.4 01 model , but disappeared after 24 hours. However, today it came on whilst driving and hasnt gone off even after a 4 hour rest. The book says contact Skoda dealer (ho hum Ive been there recently having power sensor replaced under warranty!) do I need to worry? Is this serious? Im dreading taking it cause this will be another problem I really didnt expected from the 'Oh so reliable Skoda/VW' The car is lovely to drive and and all that but Im seriously wondering whether I should have stayed with Toyota! Ive only had the car 4 months. Please tell me its nothing. Tracey
  11. Can anyone recommend a decent tyre for Fabia! Ive been wheel spinning in the rain lately, the ones I have are Firestone with a good tred (they are not bald before you ask) but still a bit slippery not enough grip! no rude comments please like the gear knob saga Ta
  12. Ive tried going at 20mph everywhere too!! :P
  13. whoops I should have gone on Motorsport Forum - sorry!
  14. Can you tell me where I can watch Fabias do their motorsport thing! Are there any events near Sussex in the next few months. Thanx T
  15. My Fabia 1.4 8v (Xreg) is a bit juicier than I expected - what mpg should I be getting? Is it because petrol is expensive? ha ha, what can be checked/modified to ensure a better fuel economy. I seem to be visiting petrol stations more than I expected or am I being greedy?
  16. Have a great day driving your new cars! Im jealous! what does VRS stand for? sports/diesel - sports whatever? is it the model rally drivers have - i dont even know what MPI after my Classic (no central locking Im missing)1 .4 means - I'll have a guess Multiple Petrol Injection..........am I right? stop laughing everyone!! ha ha ps what colour are your seats in the black VRS? lucky boy I love driving the Fabia it is lovely so I have put VRS for my next car! Enjoy your new Furbies and dont forget to burp them now and again!
  17. Dear Ross So I've heard but after years of trouble mechanically free drving with Toyota Im not impressed so far - if its a common problem its not that helpful for customers is it? Just because its a common problem doesnt make it alright.
  18. Hi Xenia What a pain! I hope you get it all sorted soon - I had steering problems the moment I collected my Fabia hatchback few weeks ago (3 year old Classic 1.4)! a local garage did the tracking it was seriously pulling to left - and following week later and 'after all my research into Skoda reliability', Ive ended up having the power sensor replaced (under warranty cover) within 2 weeks of getting the car! So probably like you, Im feeling a bit disheartend with my purchase - and I did so much research making sure I got the best car! Your Estate diesel sounds a great choice and I hope the problem is nothing serious I lovely driving the Fabia and after the problems so far it hasn't put me off great car! Good Luck! Tracey
  19. Thanks for that DGW ! I picked up a brochure in a dealer (whilst waiting for car to be fixed) but it was for human accessories! ha ha - watches, cufflinks, t shirts - The T shirt was quite nice black rally one with white stripes down the arms. I willl check out the leather gear! ha ha I am not a turnip thank God - I do 'have an openmind' especially with men, you have to - they are a different species altogether, women who get sensitive about this kinda stuff are needing to mingle a bit more with the opposite sex shall we say or just plain prudish! Thanks for all your tips fellas! be back soon PS My engine was a bit 'fluffy' (felt like it was gonna conk out) yesterday at the traffic lights - my new Fabia car has been serviced before I drove it away - 'apparently' - it smells oily too! (no comments there please!) so what with the power steering, Im thinking I need the timing or whatever looked at now - I am no car expert but I do know when an engine isnt running smoothly - what next? come back my beloved Rav 4 I miss you!
  20. How could I be offended? ha ha Its nice to know Skoda drivers have a 'normal' sense of humour and are not a bunch of car anoraks! Express yourself however you want! its funny!! if I come into a predominately male Forum I would'nt expect anything less! Anyone for a pint?
  21. I wish I'd never asked! Actually, my knob looks better than that and it's erect but thanks for the offer, very sweet of you! I am actually not going to Silverstone cause Im in Spain that week but Im sure if you take your knob along someone might be interested!
  22. GOSH this is exciting learning about my 8v engine and all your comments are great! am I a Skoda anorak yet? Im really getting into Furby talk!!
  23. Ive got a Fabia Classic -are there are any interesting accessories for this model to funk it up! gearknobs, mats any suggestions........
