  1. Hmm - the saga continues - the body shop have said that a depression in the body work that runs alonside the hatchback from the rear panel to the roof has not yet been authorised for repair. It looks to me like it was caused by some distortion when the car was dragged by the towbar - apparently the insurance assessors are looking at it again on Monday!
  2. I guess the practicality of the situation comes in here. Could I buy a similar car and continue the finance with the HP moving to the new vehicle? If so then fair enough, if not it would seem unfair to continue to pay for a car I didn't own.
  3. Luckily I'm not going to have that argument! I'll be getting rid of the car early next year all being well, so for now I just want it repaired!
  4. OK - update from the garage - no distortion to chassis so repair going ahead as planned!
  5. Thanks - could be issues with finance if the car is written off :(
  6. Hi all My 2014 Skoda Octavia (approx value £8k-£9k) was involved in an accident on Monday. A UPS driver caught the tow bar in a loop of metal at the back of his van and dragged my car about 3 feet and smashed it into a colleague's car. Most of the damage looks fairly superficial - replacing the passenger side rear panels and respray of the bumper. When the car was picked up by the body shop they noticed a slight crease in the driver's side strut that runs alongside the hatchback indicating a possible distortion of the chassis. If the chassis is distorted is it likely to be repaired or written off? Thanks! Phil
  7. Marvellous - so just the filter, not the whole assembly like in my link!
  8. Bargain - I did a quick search and came up with this one: http://www.knfilters.co.uk/search/product.aspx?Prod=57S-9501 That's £283 though!
  9. That's a fantastic result - comparable to a remap - how much did your filter cost and was it easy to get hold of? Thanks Phil
  10. Hi all I've committed to buying a 2.0 DSG Octy Elegance. I'm slightly concerned about the loss in mpg relative to my current 1.6TDi. I have a friend who will run a remap for me in return for a favour. His company takes the current map, tweaks it and re-uploads. No worries about VAG recall - happy to remap again afterwards. He reckons that the result is not 100% predictable but typically adds up to 15-30bhp on 2.0 engine and returns an extra 3-5mpg. This would be handy as my mileage will be high. The insurance company will increase my premium by an insignificant amount (£15) but up my excess from £300-£500. This is guessing at a 10% increase but my friend is at pains to point out neither he nor the insurance company have a way of telling the exact figure, so as long as a map is declared there is not going to be a problem in the event of a claim. I'm just interested in more mpg really and as I can get it for free the only cost will be the £15 a year (and extra £200 if I need to claim!). I see lots of people comment on the extra bhp, but has anyone seen tangible improvements in economy after a remap? I would add that my preference would be to run it as factory map for a while first and then potentially remap later - trouble is the insurance does me for £25 every time I tweak something, so if I'm going to do it I'd like to declare it at the same time as telling them about the new car. Thanks in advance Phil
  11. After much indecision and probably driving the dealer round the twist, I've decided to go with the 2.0 Elegance DSG. I reckon I'm going to be about £20-£30 a month worse of due to fuel / insurance, but the car was very well priced given the extremely low mileage and it helps me sort out the 'negative equity' on my current PCP. In a few years time I'll be able to go to a brand new vehicle and keep my payments the same hopefully. As someone who often spends 6 hours or more in the car on a given day I think the extra comfort (especially the cruise control) and the betting pulling power is worth it. If I'm wrong I'll have to swap it back for a 1.6! Thanks again for all the help! Phil
  12. Many thanks to everyone for taking the time to respond! That doesn't sound too bad, but nowhere near the official figures! Trouble is I'm currently on a PCP @ 20k miles p/a and doing 30l as my job requirements changed. I need to spend more per month realistically - the deal is pretty good. Thanks for the tip, but it'll be gone by next week!
