What mileage is your Octavia 3 on?
thebobster replied to BlueDiesel's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
June 2013 - 60,800 miles -
Obviously a one sided argument - forgot to mention inhaling benzene when filling up on petrol , probably as bad for your health as the lead it replaced. DPF's block up - never had a problem but then I drive more than 50 miles a week. Fuel messy to fill up - err stick the nozzle in the car and don't spill any then , not difficult is it ?

Must you ? What Utter *******s !

Timing Chain sound at cold start - 1.2 TSI 110
thebobster replied to ME@DK's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk III (2014-2021)
Some sales staff don't know their arse from their elbow or don't care. I asked about cam belts change intervals when I bought my mk2 Octy and was told by the salesman it was a chain, I just nodded knowing full well he was talking ****e. -
You'd need a very wide dashboard to display that ! I'm happy my rough calculation was that close LOL

By my reckoning that's 44.3 mpg ... ?

Sawtoothing tyres on Mkiii vrs
thebobster replied to sworrall's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
I had this happen on my last car a Golf with 225's on had the sawtoothing on the rears. The narrower winter tyres wore perfectly though. A 4 wheel alignment at the Veedub dealers cured it though and I had no further issues. -
I'm running Goodyear Ultragrip 9's having previously had Conti TS80 on my previous Golf through the winter. As usual I'm getting more mpg as well :-)
-
Neither do I that's why I'm rolling on steelies , don't give a **** if they don't look stunning. Keeping the bloody car clean this weather is impossible.
-
Stuck my winter tread on last week , got them for my old Golf and luckily they also fit the Octy 195x65x15" rims shod with Goodyear Ultragrip 9's no clearance issues with calipers etc and just in time for the cold snap. I usually find my fuel consumption improves over the summer tyres as well , everyone's a winner !!

I didn't know it could do that!
thebobster replied to Telboy5's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Yes I think you're right the Golf seemed more accurate and I used more of the 55 Litres available. -

thebobster replied to Telboy5's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Yes I get that but the old car had 55l so why make the larger car with a smaller tank. The Golf I had previously would do 500-600 + miles on a tank running to work and back before the low light came on. Just filled up for the first time with 430 miles on the tank with 60 miles remaining. I'll admit 'only' spending £52 for the 39 litres I could put in was better than the usual 60-65 I'd got used to pumping in. Also noticed that the fuel guage moves really early off the full mark. The MFD MPG seems to agree with fuelly pretty closely though. -

Yes it has some great features but why the measily small fuel tank ? A 70 Litre would make the car even better. -
Are they easy to fit ? From using them in the past it was anybodys guess where they were supposed to fit. JUst traded in a Golf for the Octy and I had headlamp protectors on the that whcih came with stickers which wrre a doddle as there were markings on the protectors so you were sure they were fitted OK. I made a template out of card , bought a roll of vinyl and jobs a gud un. If only I could do something similar with the Octavia. I don't think skoda do their own stickers as Veedub do either ....

I'm running 195s on 15" steelies on my 2 litre Golf TDI , plenty of room over the calipers and this is their third winter.

Driving's good but cycling is better !
thebobster replied to Steveh3's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
I managed to take my racing bike in the boot of my Golf , OK strip off the wheels , pedals , seatpin and saddle then it just lays in the bottom of the boot. I then pack the luggage around the bike (again Not suitcases) and lay the wheels on top. -
A week with a Skoda Octavia
thebobster replied to Coops's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Should be cheap to insure then ........ -
Sport comes with sports suspension and Pegasus alloys (mine had 225x45x17's)

Has anyone any experience of carrying racing bikes like this , I'm guessing the roofline may be too low to do this in the Octy .... ?

Cam Belt Change - Vrs Diesel
thebobster replied to Yanos's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Well I had a cambelt on my Golf and my local dealer a couple of months ago and including the replacement water pump it was around £400 so I think the price you've been quoted is pretty par for the course.. -
I remember William Woollard presenting TG when it was purely a factural motoring show and Chris Goffey ..... I seem to think I've heard Raymond Baxter mentioned before as a previous TG presenter .... but according to WIkipedia ... : Top Gear (referred to as Old Top Gear when mentioned on the present version of the show) was a car-based BBC television series produced by BBC Birmingham, and broadcast on BBC2 from 1977 to 2001. It consisted of 30-minute magazine format programmes presented by a number of people, including William Woollard, Angela Rippon, Noel Edmonds, and Jeremy Clarkson and according to them Raymond Baxter is NOT listed as a presenter ...

Fabia 1.6 CR TDI 90bhp appalling fuel consumption
thebobster replied to MikeHart's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
And I could get over 75mpg out of my 1987 Peugeot 205 GRD but that was built out of balsa wood and todays cars are much heavier and more importantly much safer and have much more kit on them. Plus there were no concessions to emissions and fuel was different to todays as well ... in comparison the best I've managed is 64.2mpg on the trip computer on my Golf 1.9 TDI over a 100 mile motorway run . -
£65 I think I read in the Fabia brochure ...

Floor space is the same in both.
