  1. The detachable head unit on my stereo is shot so its time for a replacement. Given that it is a Blaupunkt and not one of the Skoda head units do I still need to worry about getting a fascia adapter, wiring adapter, aerial booster and swap the red and yellow wires? Or can I just plug in a new head unit? I'm not aiming at anything high end, probably grab a bargain in Halfords or Argos. Thanks.
  2. Have had a similar problem for a while. Mine is in the garage at the moment having the the rear bushes on the front wishbone replaced. They were in a sorry state.
  3. Yup, spotted that alright, again whoever had it off last hadn't put it back on properly.
  4. Persistence and a new nut paid off. I cleaned up the bolt again got a new M6 nut and started it on by hand.
  5. While changing my coolant bottle at the weekend I thought I'd check out a rattle that I have been hearing. It that the engine cover is a bit loose. One of the bolts that holds it in place has the thread badly worn. The nut appears to have been tightened on at an angle won't screw down properly. Am blaming the guy that did my coolant pump last year. I borrowed a die set and cleaned up the thread. The nut goes on smoothly without the cover on, but with the cover on its hidden in a recess and I have use a socket with extension bar and i just cannot get the nut on straight. Any suggestions? I'd leave it off altogether but would then have no oil cap. Thanks.
  6. Job done. Just drained it enough that the bottle was empty. Sadly fumble one of the screw that hold the bottle in place as I was removing it. No idea where it landed. Had to make to with a random screw from my toolbox when fitting the new bottle. For the first time in ages I have no alarm when I start the car
  7. What is the best way to do this and how do I avoid air in the system? Thanks.
  8. At €`180 they're screwing you. I had the same problem recently and bought the switch assembly from a Skoda dealer for about €32 and fitted it myself. I have a 2002 Fabia Comfort and live in Galway. The worst part of the job was popping of the top of the armrest/door handle. Ten minutes at the most.
  9. Having read a number of posts here and talked to my dealer thats what I'm going to do. If I'm correct the oil pressure switch is just to the right of the oil filter. I can't even get the connector cap off let alone remove the switch. Any pointers?
  10. Cleaning the sensors hasn't helped. Time for a new bottle. Sadly I have another fun symptom, twice recently the oil indicator has come on. Given that I had an oil change in July and the level is fine I'm a little worried.
  11. I'll try cleaning the sensors. I had the bottle replaced last year along with the coolant pump.
  12. I came home from work the other evening to find that one of our kittens(born to a stray in our yard) was flattened only a few meters from my driveway. Two others had run off and one had taken shelter in bushes at the entrance to our estate while the other had managed to cross the main road unscathed and was crying loudly at his sister from across the road. Burying a smushed kitty is not fun :rotz:
  13. As I have mentioned here before I have had an intermittent coolant leak for some time. The car has been looked at by four different mechanics and apart from replacing the pump none have found the cause of the leak. Recently one mechanic told me to add something to seal the leak. I went in to the nearest motor factor and got a small bottle of additive, shook the hell out of it and poured it in. My coolant level was slightly above max. The alarm was quiet for two weeks and then on Monday morning it came on again. It has come on each morning since, though only some evenings when I'm heading home. The coolant level is fine and the radiator fan is also working. What else should I be looking at?
  14. Mine has been quite tappity over the past year. The problem has cleared up after oil changes. A mechanic at the Skoda dealer described the problem as a lazy tappit brought on my shorts drives. The oil isn't reaching optimium temp and with condensation is building up mayonaise that block the channels. He recommended a six monthly oil change and drving the hell out of it when I get the chance. Took the car for a good spin, dropped it into a local garage where they changed the oil and filter, took it out for another run and changed it again. Sounds very happy now. Though a friend has said that after the flush if the sump plate wasn't taken off there will still be some amount of crud at the bottom of the engine to be dragged back up again. If it behaves itself til the next service in December I'll be well happy.
  15. My passenger door is behaving itself for the first time in months but the drivers door is now acting up. The lock is fine but the internal light has stopped switching on when I open it, as has the red warning light on the door itself. Given that my headlights on buzzer stopped working a while back I guess I'm now looking at repairing or replacing the drivers side lock. :( Have looked into it and am hoping of I strip it down that its just moisture or poor connections or cracked solder. The dealer was vague when asked for a price €80 - €130 + vat.
