  1. My 2005 fabia tdi has exactly the same problem. I am a driving instructor, and this car is part of me. It starts and runs fine, with no loss of power. I am down 5 mpg around town and 10 mpg on a run. I used to squeeze 70mpg on a run if i kept to 60 mph, but I can't get 60 mpg now. Like you, my cambelt was changed 2000 miles ago at 70,000 miles. I note that kblackburn is reporting similar loss of mpg after a cambelt change. MAF sensor, VAG-COM and EGR mean nothing to me. I have changed the air filter, but no effect. Would be extremely interested if you manage to fix your car!
  2. I have done about 60,000 miles in my Fabia TDI, which has now covered 71,000. I used to get about 45mpg on driving school work and easily 65mpg on a run. Recently this has dropped to 39mpg on town work and I struggle to get 50 mpg on a run. Have changed air filter and tried a bottle of diesel magic injector cleaner. Timing belt was changed last June and am not sure if this was when the consumption dropped. Car still starts and runs like a watch. It sounds just as it always did and is certainly not down on power. Would it still run this well if the timing was one notch out? The car freewheels easily, so the brakes are not binding. Any theories gratefully accepted.
