  1. In some ways am experiencing some similar issues although my Superb L+K Estate 4x4 has but 66K on the clock. Recently i had the local garage replace the front coil springs after I suspected one had been damaged driving, fairly sedately on N Yorkshire roads that were not high on the priority list for repairs. Now, however, I am uncertain whether the level of road noise experienced when driving on all but the smoothest roads (excepting cat eyes), is indicative of a further problem - though I cannot see any obvious cause (say shocks etc). I have quite a lot of life left in the Michelin cross climate tyres that are fitted but the DSG, Haldex etc are due attention when the car goes in for its service in 3 weeks time. The only other issue noted on my last run out was the ESC fault light and the tyre pressure illuminating after a 2 hr trip last week. I had checked the tyres before we started and they are still okay now. The warning lights disappeared after resetting the tyre pressure and the ESC light did not reappear after the stop of around an hour. Any thoughts - are the latter observations even connected to the road noise issue? Thank you for any and all suggestions.
  2. Thank you for the suggestions - I suspect that my timing stinks in view of the PM’s statement just now and the lockdown.....Mayhaps I won’t need the car too much for a little while......
  3. Yesterday, while parked with engine and ignition off but the Colombus providing a hands-free medium for the telephone conversation that I was having, I heard 3 'thumps' in around a second which immediately preceded the loss of the phone and the shutting off of the Colombus. This has never happened before and occurred a few days after the Colombus, flickered (rapidly switched itself on and off?) whilst in motion and travelling down a local road that was not unduly bumpy. In both instances the temperature was just below freezing. It might be pertinent to add that the battery was replaced 5 weeks ago with another AGM by Halfords who determined 'no need to make any settings changes'. Our local Stealer could not source and replace the battery without a delay of over a week - hence defaulting to Halfords. Any thoughts from the Brains Trust?
  4. I seem to be having a similar problem with my 2014 170 4 x 4 DSG . Last week the car wouldn't start (battery) which I put down to having not run for a week and my leaving the dashcam plugged in - I mean what else could it have been? Normally the car only does long runs and after sorting out the battery this week we did 2 x 170 mile trips- so enough for any Re- gen, - I would have thought should one have been necessary. On my previous 140 2.0 PD (died after oil pump failure, go figure!) I never saw the Regen light and attributed it to few short runs and the use of Premium diesel (Don't disillusion me, I'm content). Not seeing a Regen light on this one then does not seem unusual. Back to the present: Yesterday and today I have used the car for a 2 mile round trip after which the fan continues to run despite the engine not being up to temperature. Could we have a thermostat or relay issue that might have been behind the drained battery?
  5. Would there be a problem saving to an SD Card and updating from that?
  6. Snowathlete, Read your missives with interest having just (12 days ago) acquired a similar 2014 Superb but the estate version. After 11 years with our previous Superb it's taking a while to get used to driving a DSG box with additional bells and whistles but has just had the 'fix' (sadly?), 40K service to include Haldex/DSG. Mysteries remaining include getting our mobiles to pair with the Colombus (via the MFD menu) and understanding the heating and ventilation system. We too get the reported low freq grumble when first starting up and pulling away but it's gone by the time we get on the main road. She's noticeably thirstier than her predecessor (but then we expected that to a degree) and an impatient right foot even in 'D' rather than 'S' sets you back in your seat a little. Enjoy your new car, drive safe
  7. Jimbo, I decided to bite the bullet and 'Nora' has gone - to be replaced by a 2014 2.0 170 CR L&K DSG 4x4 estate. Now comes the process of setting up to suit and learning all the initials! 'Nora' was 11 years old in vg condition otherwise and for someone able to invest labour in swapping out the oil pump (and maybe but not definitely the turbo?) could yet be in service for many years more - just not with us.
  8. Oil warning lamp illuminated briefly on Sunday whilst driving sedately at 50 checked and replenished oil (level had dropped significantly since last checked at the beginning of the month). No further indications seen. 'Nora' ( 140, 2.0 TDI) went for periodic service yesterday at 99000 miles, service completed and oil light illuminated. Suspect the dreaded oil pump failure has come home to roost. Any advice on engagement with SKODA UK re known design issue now affecting FSH loved car that has had new coils, tyres and cat in last 12 months as was otherwise a loved and cherished member of the family?
  9. As Alfred had no response a year ago I suspect that this problem may not be widespread but we detected a slight raspy note to the exhaust when at 60-70 and started to put the engine under load. A check under the car has revealed some sooty marks around the flexible joint but despite catching it early, there seems to be no alternative but to source a replacement cat. I too have the dreaded 2.0 L 140 BHP engine (in an 11 yr old car that is otherwise a keeper - despite a broken front coil spring 3 months ago!) Any suggestions? We see no reason to part company just yet, the cost of repairs will still be less than the depreciation on a newer model...... Thanks
  10. Skodanut - thanks. I didn't mean to suggest that she wasn't running well - she is and we rarely do short journeys (but we rarely exceed 2500rpm either!) I may live to regret staying with variable service intervals but my curiousity and natural frugal nature will have me seeing how things pan out. May I not live to regret it! Nevertheless thanks for the advice.
  11. I am paying about 5p per litre more than BP std Diesel - so locally 118p.
  12. I too use BP Ultimate Diesel exclusively and have found no problems although I suspect a very slightly reduced mpg this winter. In 20K over 2.5 years (not a high mileage driver at the moment) on our 140 TDi, we have yet to see the light for the particulate filter come on. Rightly or wrongly, I attribute that to the fuel and to the type of driving we undertake. That said, my mentioning it will probably prove to be the kiss of death........

  14. Sidewaze, I was reporting similar problems with my 56 Elegance in Feb - no solar sunroof. Skoda Assist checked the battery and the alternator and we took it to ALS in Ely to see if the problem could be identified. At best, there was a vague suspicion of a possible problem with the front seats and it was suggested that we turn off the memory function. ALS have advised that in the event of another completely flat battery, that we have it trailored to them so that they can be confident that they have as good a look at the fault messages as they might. I am not convinced about the seats and they continue to operate as designed. We have had no similar problems since Feb. I suspect that a heated screen (or seat?) turned itself on when garaged and this led to the discharge - I have actually seen this happen to a parked, locked vehicle many years ago (BL). Na water ingress on our vehicle to date, which incidentally we bought from HL Austin 22 months ago. We have been pleased with both these Dealers. Good luck with your quest.
