  1. Great westallc, thanks Just gonna be spending a big wad of cash and want be sure i am doing the right thing that's all. I have a good mechanic here but he is very particular and he is a bit iffy about using another engine code to the one i have.
  2. Yeah this is want i want know for sure, didn't wanna take what he said as gospel, no offence to Westallc. Nothing is wrong with the AUQ engine at all in fact it has less miles than my dead AUM. The problem i have is that i am in Cyprus and changing the block would mean reregestering the car with the new engine number and here it is a complete nightmare, not to mention about 800 Euros to do so.
  3. Hi Peppy, this is where i looked first but it really is just that and nothing else at all?! Was it really worth them making another engine type for it lol. If this is the case i will go ahead and get the AUQ, i need the cylinder head, valves, pistons and bearings and of course timing belt! but the belt i will get new for sure.
  4. Hi there, I was wondering if anybody can help me at all regarding these two engine types. From what i have read they are identical except for 'one different boot (rubber seal/pipe) on the charge air cooler' and the ECU. Does this mean if i get an AUQ engine i can interchange all the parts with my AUM? My timing belt went big time and at the moment i can only get hold of an AUQ engine. Help is very much appreciated
  5. Really you should get the cambelt done ASAP. Mine just went and now it is new engine time :( Gonna cost a bucket load now to sort it all out. Valves snapped off in the cylinder and did loadsa damage. Trust me don't risk it, mine was going for the service the next day! It had done 61k miles.
  6. MY 2001 was booked in to do the timing belt 2 weeks ago at 61k miles and the night before the service it went! Now looking for a new engine :( Anybody know how easy it is to replace my AUM with an AUQ engine? I have found an AUQ at a good price but not sure if it is a straight bolt in or some stuff needs doing to hook everything up. Or if i can just take what i need from the AUQ and put it on my AUM. Help much appreciated!
  7. Hi everybody, a real noob here. Just got a 2001 1.8t automatic and imported it to Cyprus. As soon as it gets here i had to take it to Skoda and they said my alternator was screwed and they fixed it for 300 odd Euros! not sure if i got ripped off or not but anyway. The car was running fine for a few days then i suddenly got problems where the eccelerater seemed to have lag on it. I would put the pedal down and nothin would happen, then it would just go and then slow down, then go again. Then it was fine and the Engine Management Light came on. Just wanted to know first places to check and what could be possible problems. I reckon the people here are right cowboys and wanna know what i am talking about when i take it in if needed. Also, is it really worth getting VAG-COM? I am thinking if i can sort some stuff out myself in the long run it will be more easy on my pocket than taking it to these guys.
