  1. It can keep popping off can't remember if I swapped or glued my y piece in the end or trimmed a few mm off the end of the pipe to re fit.
  2. I've had this in mine - anything from a shopping bag slightly covering the catch was the easiest - but I've also had to re solder one of the wires that had worn or corroded on the switch on the inside of the tailgate. The repair wasn't tricky, but the refitting of the plastic clips is a pain. The wire fault was an easy diagnosis - visual check the probably continuity (can't remember )
  3. The laptop and finding a lead I could probably cope with - but the softwares a bit out of my price range!
  4. Thanks Ken - before I buy the bearing - prices range from 25-80 quid - any makes to avoid? I'm sure the cars too old for a genuine part! Im going to have to buy a single size gen tool from fleabay as well I reckon once I've Sussed out the bearing diameter - I've had most of the brakes off for inspection, cleaned and replace the sensor a few times so I might as well have a go at the bearing! Loving all all the advice on here !
  5. Exactly same happened to me on transit van - on way to test centre - brakes suddenly pressed to floor then were fine - master cylinder every time!
  6. Not hard to do but it's fiddly. The plastic cover, its held on by around 12 'v 'shaped metal spring clips which are a bit tricky to line back up to re fit - and you'll forget to thread the boot pulled down! Before i I tried that I would check that there is no crap in the nozzle by pulling it off and Getting the pipe over a cup or dish and getting someone to operate it. If water runs freely out it's the nozzle... soaking it in some water or vinegar if you're in a hard water area then having a gentle poke round with a pin. Sometimes this clears them. Try this before you take the plastic tailgate cover off.
  7. There's a Y piece in the pipe at the front under the bonnet clipped against the back of the body in the engine compartment. on a dry day get a mate to work the back washer - see if you can see any water dripping in the front right side. if there is - just push it back till it clicks. if not it's a case of checking the tailgate.
  8. Yep - and I know for certain that the proper Gen tooling wasn't used as it was a mate helping me out! Thing is, it was fine for weeks after. whats the proper name for the tool - maybe I have to get it stripped down and a new bearing put in ? Or is it just an alignment thing.
  9. its a lot easier the second time.. i've done this twice on passenger side and once on drivers!
  10. i'd be interested to see the outcome of this, I ve had a abs light go on my 52 plate fabia 1.9 and the cheapo code reader said front right sensor - i changed, and its not :( I was wondering if the bearing (which has recently been changed) has given up talking with the sensor, i've even changed and fitted another sensor, from a different motor factors/brand with no joy.
  11. You can get the clips and the wires for about 15 quid off Ebay for a non genuine part. The kit comes with a metal spacer to fit the wires. I've done mine twice. First time was an absolute b*****d and took me ages. Second time the wires went over the pulleys straight away. Don't forget to lubricate the edges of your window channel and be careful when taking door card off not to break any of the plastic clips. Definitely a job you can do yourself if you're practically minded. :-)
  12. My engine looks nowt like in the PDF What I think is the plug described is rather unhelpful ly on other side behind air filter. I thought that was the control module - silver thing with Bosch on front with two halves or two connectors down one side. Just looked at top one and it looks nowt like the pin diagrams ie the end pubs in different places so it's looking like a full day job of investigation ! :-)
  13. Door is easy enough to take panel off. Not so easy if you don't know where the clips are but a search on here should have a walk through. If not you are heading for breaking the clips which is a headache. :-)
  14. It would prob still start if a single glow plug goes on blink but no start sounds definitely electrical! I'm pretty sure it won't be a knackered plug :-)
  15. Brill thanks - I'm going to have a play tomorrow first then see how far I get with the tips on here! I can't being myself to take even to local Indy as some if the stuff I've seen bodged must have been done by them since I've had var from new (and I still love it till I can save up for an Octavia lol) :-)
  16. Just check as well that the exciter wire hasn't snapped on your alternator. You can see this by jacking up front passenger side - sticking a axle stand underneath, removing the plastic sump cover and just near the wheel arch there are a pair of wires. Lots if posts about flat batteries and alternators to show you what and where but My fabia had a few odd window gremlins and and electrical things which have vanished since I fixed - meaning the battery being flat and the alternator not doing it's job wasn't helping. If you battery light comes on when you put key in ignition and stays in till a second after engine started then it's ok. If it goes off instantlyor doesn't come on - then it's time to Find the wire :-)
  17. Glow plug light flashing points to brake light either both bulbs gone or switch under pedal knackered. More detail needed in the not starting - is it turning over but not firing :-)
  18. It's front left. Also it's not a toothed sensor. I'm going to whip the other front wheel off this morning and see if I can get a voltage. I'm pretty sure it's a break in the wire as when the fault first started the abs light and the esr light only came on after I braked over 10mph. Might even be time to treat myself to a Haynes manual. It's a fabia by the way 6y2 1.9 tdi on a 52 plate that I've had from new :-)
  19. I've got same thing on fabia mk1. No voltage to sensor connector. If anyone knows best way to check continuity I'm all ears. No fuses blown. :-)
  20. Hmmm no 12v across the terminals when pulling the sensor connector off and the ignition on. Can't trace for continuity as don't know where the wires go once inside the wheel arch ( front left). Any clues (skoda fabia mk1) :-)
  21. I'm loving that detAil. I'll have a go tomorrow - might even get a pack of resistors off fleabay :-)
  22. I'll check but not sure where it goes from the clip- front near side :-)
  23. From reading other posts this should reset itself. Could be rusty hub. :-)
  24. I'm in exactly same boat with a mk1 fabia. Abs light and other one on, got scanner to tell me which wheel changed sensor and still no joy. Stripped wheel down again and cleaned hole of any crud and spun wheel to see the ring moving under the hole - cleared codes still no joy. Am poised now ready to buy a gen2 fitting tool and new bearing and change the bearing - which I really don't want to do but I can see any other way to test the circuits. What can I measure to the sensor - voltage across the two connections with the sensor out? :-)
