  2. Hi, I have had a noise coming from the rear near side for some months now and it was really starting to bug me. The car is an 06 VRS and is my second one. No problems with the previous one. It would occur from cold and was really noticable going over speed bumps slowly and pulling away from my drive going down the curb. It was clunk type of noise and I wondered if it was noisy failing bush. It would go away after a long run so I was not confident I would be able to recreate it for the dealer as they are a long run away. I decided to jack it up and see if I could see anything loose. First attempt some months ago found nothing , but it had been warm and dry for a while. Tried again today and had my son jack while I looked under by exhaust. Jacking caused the noise to occur and I was able to locate the source of the noise. It was the coil spring rubbing hard against the rear of the lower strut and by comparing with the other side, you could see the spring was not correctly seated on the lower strut. After compressing the spring, I was able to get it correctly seated and now the spring is well clear of the rear of the strut and looks the same as the other side. I suspect it had been like that since delivery as I had not done anything that I feel would have caused it. Those springs are strong and surely would not jump under normal hard driving? Thought this might be of interest to others with unexplained rear noise. Regards, Charlie.
  3. Hi, Had similar problem with my Octavia and it turned out the MAF needed replacing. I would get it swapped and see if that helps. Not a cheap part if you are out of warranty. No faults were shown on the computer. Regards, Bagheera.
  4. Hi, Having owned an 05 and 06 Furby, this problem has to have one of two causes. Firstly they have built the 06 engine with a set of defective parts eg. MAF or EGR valve, but I feel this is less likely. My favorite is that they have introduced this problem as a result of reprogramming the ECU for the new emission level requirements. I have never played with VAG-COM, but would it be possible to compare the settings between the two engines? How about trying to load the default mapping fron an 05 engine to an 06? This must be possible as this is how some of the engine tuners work for the Revert to Normal for Dealer Servicing? I am not sure the dealers will ever see a fault for this problem as if it is the ECU, it thinks everything is OK. I am willing to assist if someone has the ability to apply the previous suggestion? I would love to try the 05 engine settings if it was possible as I loved my old 05 that was shunted beyond repair by an overseas lorry on the motorway. Regards, Bagheera.
  5. Hi, My 06 is now at 1400 miles and still stuttering, but not as much as it has. Mentioned it to the sales guy on Friday while getting the wife's Fabia 1.4mpi serviced. They have not had anything from Skoda and their best techie is moving on. They had had the problem with theirs but it went away. Was hoping to get a call from someone there to discuss. He was surprised I had not had a call, but it is logged on their system. Not sure what to do next? Regards, Bagheera.
  6. Hi everyone, Raised this with the dealer this morning. He said he had noticed it with the one he was driving and said that it did go away. Can not remember if he said what the mileage was. He will talk to their senior technician now he knows it was not just his vRS. Mentioned this thread and site to him. He has logged the issue for my vRS and took my number to pass to the techie. Will post any updates. I am up to 1000 miles now and the problem was still happening this morning on the motorway! Regards, Bagheera.
  7. Hi All, Also just gone from an 05 to 06 after rear end shunt on M1. I have also noticed this difference between the two engines. At the moment it is no more than slightly annoying. Never had much joy with dealers trying to sort out this type of problem. Had big problems with Audi and Skoda 20V petrol engines that the dealers never resolved. Disconnecting the MAF helped on the Skoda. Is there as simple test we can do ourselves to pinpoint the problems? Bagheera.
  8. Audi A4 1.8SE -> Octy 1.8T Auto -> Furby vRS. So far vRS is the most fun!
  9. Hi Chris, Info is reliable. See my thread for my AUX input for more details and photos of the back of the radio. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/t16683-adding-aux--line-input-to-fabia-vrs-with-symphony-hu-+-photos.html Regards, Charlie A.K.A. Bagheera.
  10. I used a couple of bits of metal from Halfords for removing Kenwood radios. You just insert them into the small thin vertical slots on the sides of the radio. Metal goes in about an inch and a half and then you should be able to slide the unit out. You can use the unit with a CD already in. First you select CD by pressing the CD button which gives you the CD in the HU. Then press button 1 to get the AUX input. Fairly simple but took me a few minutes to work it out. RTFM springs to mind.
  11. Thanks for the info Wol. Here is the swift reply from ICD: Good Morning Charlie, Thanks for the e-mail. I'm pleased to hear that you received the interface nice and early on Saturday morning and it's fitted and works well. Thank you for the link to the Briskoda Forum, it's always good to get feed back - Both positive & negative. The spare socket on the interface is for a Sony CD changer. This particular interface was developed for this dedicated changer but we realised that it would also operate as an audio opener. The Sony CD changer come with an audio cable (Cable with 2 x RCA plugs at either end) and a Data cable (Uni-link). The Data socket is not used because you are only utilising the audio half of the interface. The data half of the interface will not control the MP3 player as the Sony & MP3 information is very different. It is possible for you to connect a Sony changer to the interface but you may need to disconnect the power to the head unit to initialise the interface properly. Unfortunately we have not developed an interface with MP3 control. It is possible to develop such an interface but our engineer has been busy on alternative projects. This version of interface is in our schedule for development early next year. I hope this information helps, if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact me. Best regards, Jason Beddow In Car Developments Ltd -----Original Message----- Sent: 31 October 2004 16:46 To: '[email protected]' Subject: VAGX1 Hi, Just wondering what the unused connector is for on the VAGX1? Would it be for a cable to allow the Symphony HU to control the input device? Would be nice. Please could you give me some detail about it. Regards, Charlie.
  12. You can not perform any form of control as far as I am aware, but there is an unused socket on the converter box. I wonder what that is for? Would be nice if it was for a link to the H340 remote socket. Will ask supplier what it is for.
  13. Been researching this one for a while. Tried a Belkin TuneCast II, but not very good. Maybe because of the Aerial signal amplifier? Going to put it on eBay. Would be of use to someone without an aerial amp. Decided to go down the Aux/Line input route. Too complicated to construct the electronics needed myself. Looked at lots of posts and other sites and spoke to a couple of suppliers. No one could give me a definite answer for the Fabia Symphony unit. Did not want a new HU, less likely to be nicked and my hearing is not that great. Finally went with In Car Developments Ltd after the fastest response to my various queries and a helpful techie. Item needed was a VAGX1 and a set of RCA to 3.5mm jack leads. Information found on this site gave me the confidence to try it out: http://www.packetradio.co.uk/Cars/octavia/radio.htm Followed instructions that came with unit and now I am able to play my iRiver H340 through my factory fitted Symphony HU. Have included some photos of the bits I thought may be of interest. I am pleased with the results.
  14. Did some research on this while waiting for my Fabia vRS. Came to the conclusion that it was too complicated for me. It would involve complete dash removal and then replacing lots of surface mount led's. My soldering is good, but not that good. Having got the vRS, the dash is much better than I expected. I was expecting it to be more like my old Octavia 1.8t Elegance, but it looks great in the dark with the red needles. Blue still my favorite, but what I have is growing on me.
