  1. Thanks for such a helpful guide, I ran out of daylight but I've managed to get my doorcard off without (much!) damage, just gotta get the hacksaw out tomorrow and wind that gear around, it will be nice to be able to open the passenger door again(even my 43 year old vw can do that!)
  2. I shall be fiddling with my release mechanism tomorrow, glad I did a search.
  3. Any tips to opening the bonnet on my 54 plate vrs guys. Got the mot in a week and it needs a new windscreen but unfortunately that can't be done as we found the bonnet won't open. The lever in the footwell doesn't appear to have much tension in it but if you wiggle it about enough you can get the bonnet to open the first stage...but the little lever under the bonnet doesn't appear to be connected to the bonnet release cable grrr! What do we reckon my best way in is, remove grill, get underneath etc etc? Is it a known problem? Thanks in advance for any help. Ade
  4. As a rule I've not heard of any forces mapping their VRS's, they're all standard (but well looked after and driven well, the majority of the time not 'in anger.') I'm Plod...and funnily enough only bought my VRS after having a play at work when we got them. Thanks for this thread btw, mine too has 110k on it and I'm trying and failing to talk myself out of a remap
  5. Nope, never seen one, good luck in your search!
  6. Haha, cheers mate! Not the first time it's been pointed out, the bug might be cool, I don't think I am!
  7. Comes out when the suns out! Have always had a 'custom' in the garage ranging from slammed old bugs to beach buggies to old Yank muscle cars to an old mercedes bouncing on hydraulic suspension...the VRS is the sensible family car, and a very good one at that. For my sins I'm a copper and used to be part of a response/pursuit unit...that's where I discovered what VRS' were capable of.
  8. Likewise, the first owner of my VRS clocked up 90k in 3 years before I got it, it was a company car and regularly serviced. I've took it up to 110k and so far so good, I think the throttle bodies might need a blow-thru at some point as it has the odd jerk now and again. My other car is 44 years old so I'm ever the optimist!
  9. 'Scuse my ignorance, what's VCDS? Thanks again everyone for the help so far.
  10. Arse! Definitely no switch there! I'll speak to a contact at the local Police garage and see if they deactivate their Octys. Thanks everyone for your help!
  11. Hi Guys I've got a 54 plate Mk1 VRS estate, as the family has expanded I've had a look at deactivating the passenger side airbag so we can (occasionally) put a babyseat on the front passenger seat. I had a quick look at the manual today which indicated a switch in the glovebox would sort it...well my VRS ain't got one. Am I missing something (every possibility!) or do I have to go to a dealer with this? Is it because the VRS was not considered a 'family car' so wouldn't need this option? Thanks in advance!
  12. Just seen this, count another VRS in. Will be fun...never thought I'd do a show in 'the daily'. I'm sure you'll be far more civilised than the hot rod / classic VW lot I normally hang out with:)
  13. 100k - Octavia Vrs Estate 54/05 registered...all original.
  14. 100k on a (late) 54 plate...original everything:)
  15. Thanks for that question mate, I've got exactly the same on my 54 VRS estate, will get the throttle bodies looked at.
  16. Having just bought the same model I'll be watching your thread with interest, good luck!
  17. Oh and Octavia5 just noticed I'm just down the road from you in Northampton, bought the car from Croylands in Rushden.
  18. It's ok I leave the silly stuff for the vw's...although the black beasty may well be treated to a nice set of black rims as well as a lowering job. On that note are any particular springs/companies recommended by you lot. Great site by the way, already picked up a few tips:thumbup:
  19. It'll be hit with the lowering stick at some point as all my cars are, here's my other toy if anyones interested:
  20. My 05 registered Octavia VRS has 91k on it...hoping to double that before I weigh it in!
  21. Thought I'd drop in and say hello, just got myself a Mk1 Octi VRS in black. Suitably impressed so far but I always knew they were good cars. Went for the estate version as: a) it's not discernably slower, and more importantly I convinced my better half it was the 'sensible' family car I'd promised her to cater for the birth of our first kid next month:) It's also got a huge boot to hold all the car bits I keep hoarding...my main hobby is customising old volkswagens.
