  1. unfortunately i live in rip off ireland, recession or no recession. we dont have the choices ye might have in the uk. i didnt have much option in paying for it. dealer gave me no other options. i priced an injector in two other places. one quoted €561 plus vat and the other was €396 plus vat. i checked with the mechanic i usually use and he said a dealer would have to do it as they have to reprogram the other injectors with the new one or something like that. its not really a case of what might happen. dealer put the failure down to a build up of bad fuel. if this is the case then all of them could be heading for the same failure. this was suggested to me by the mechanics in the dealers. its not really the same as i might have an accident or might get a blow out. i am going to get onto skoda customer care and see if i have any come back.
  2. is there a chance is was just one dodgy injector? im now afraid every time i drive that its going to breakdown again. if it were ye would ye just change it??
  3. my octavia vrs tdi PD just had a new injector put in to the cost of €1100. mechanics say that it might happen to the other 3 too. they put it down to bad fuel but i have never put in cheap diesel unless you count tesco! (there was one owner before me) knowing it might happen again doesn't inspire much confidence so was considering changing it. even though i cant really afford to. what can i do to help the life of the other injectors if anything? also is there other problems with the PD engine and would i be better just getting rid? i love the car but dont have the faith in it now.
  4. after two weeks of trying to get my car fixed a skoda garage has finally got around to it. apparently it needs a new injector and they have quoted me 1100euro supplied and fitted!!! does that sound right? sounds expensive to me. also car was driving perfectly on the day it happened. just chugged then glow rod light came on in the dash and engine fault on the screen. battery light then came on and car cut out and wouldnt restart. does that sound like an injector? would i not have lost power or noticed something wrong?
  5. @ friendly fire - my car is a 07 so unfortunately the warranty has expired. the garage is listed as one of the main skoda dealers on the skoda website. im trying my best to be patient but im getting no feedback and i havent gotten any of the callback i have requested. today is working day number 8 and still nothing. i have no problem taking it some where even though ill have to get it towed. i just dont want to be hit for a list of charges when its still not fixed.
  6. unfortunately i live in ireland and this dealer is located is a small town. think the guy who owns the garage is their main mechanic too!! i didnt know any of this before i brought it there by the way! but ye are right the vrs is fairly popular here too so they should definitely be familiar with them. do they have a right to charge me even though they havent fixed it? could i get onto skoda ireland and complain through them?
  7. my octavia vrs pd broke down on me last monday 15/2/10. i got it to the nearest skoda dealer on thursday 18th. the dealer has had it since then and up to today they still dont know whats wrong with or how to fix it? they havent contacted me and i have had to ring them for updates. all they told me so far was that it is a problem with the injector system. they said they havent seen the problem before and arent too familiar with the vrs model!! i have asked to speak with the mechanic who is suppose to call me back but no call as yet. they havent given me a projected date when it might be ready or how much it might cost. am i being impatient? surely a dealer should have the specific problem identified by now? if i lose my temper which im close to doing, and take the car somewhere else will they just charge me a bomb for all the man hours and for plugging it into the computer? my car is not driving and i have not been given a loan of a car for the interim. any ideas?
  8. where the hell is the front towing eye on the octavia vrs? mine is a 07 pd tdi and it broke down the other day. the guy who came to tow it couldnt find the towing eye. it was dark out but he looked for ages and couldnt it. does it have one?
  9. thanks for the reply. is it possible that all four injectors stopped working? is this a common fault on skodas? i also have a bluefin remap on the car since last july. is there any chance this wouldve had something to it??
  10. hey, my octavia vrs pd tdi cut out on me on monday night. it was driving fine then all of a sudden a light came on in the dash and it said engine fault on the screen and take to workshop. the battery light came on and the engine died. when i tried to restart it just turns over but wont start. a local mechanic plugged it in to his computer and he said there is an electrical fault with the injectors. he quoted me a price of 700euro plus vat!! has anyone heard of any problems like this before? does anyone know anything about injectors i.e how many is there? i have no idea and was just going to try get it to a skoda garage. would an independant mechanic in a small garage be able for the job? he didnt seem to sure about what the fault really was.
  11. there seems to be alot of conflicting ideas on when the timing belt on the octavia vrs tdi should be changed. does anyone know the definite it mileage when it should be done? i have 57k miles up on mine at the moment.
  12. how much roughly would the mfd3 cost? is it hard to install?
  13. is there much in the difference? i presume the mfd3 is more expensive?
  14. was thinking of upgrading the stereo on my octy vrs. where would be the best place place to get an mfd2? can it play dvds? or would i be best off getting a double din kenwood or jvc head unit?
