  1. Finally got the problem sorted at Simpsons Skoda - I needed multiple wiring fixes, as a suspected rodent had eaten the insulation through to the copper wire!! as they like to use the plastic for their nest apparently! Flipping annoying - I'm thinking of putting some mouse traps under the bonnet just in case
  2. It cut out again at the weekend and got the AA out as I couldn't get it going. He checked all the relays etc and spent about 2 hours looking for the problem but also suggested a bad connection somewhere. In the end he gave up so we were going to take it to Skoda but when he checked everything was secure on the transportation ramp (by driving his van a yard and braking hard) he turned the ignition and saw the glow plug light come on and it started!!! AGHHHH! How annoying - I need to take it to skoda when it's "dead".
  3. It is very annoying and embarassing....it can take me around a hundred times plus for me to get it going again!! I would be much happier with just a couple of attempts - once the glow plug light appears on the dash it's away first time...v annoying.
  4. After having a few cut out problems over the past couple of years or so I thought it had been cured, but last week I drove over a cattle grid and about 10mph and the engine cut out and the glow plug light came on as usual and the ASR light. Then when I came to start it the glow plug light wouldn't come on and the ASR light remained on. I'm used to this senario now and I just keep turning the ignition on and off without turning the engine over (as it will never start). Once I see the glow plug light come on and the sound of the fuel pump whooshing? then I know we're in business. It took me about 15 minutes for this to work last week and on the same day I must have driven over a bit of bumpy road and cut out again but managed to fire it back up whilst still moving. It is very worring as if I was on the motorway in the fast lane doing 70 and losing my power steering and brake asistance etc it could prove quite difficult getting over to the hard shoulder. In the past I've had the fuel pump relay changed twice, battery changed as skoda thought that could be a reason why as it was showing low, also they have on another occasion cleaned and ECU connectors.....but I still encounter this problem from time to time. At the weekend it cut out 3 times in a day 2 of which I got started whilst moving and the other took about 5 minutes to get going again. The thing I have recognised on the last few times is that it is related to vibration due to bad road surface etc. Any one got any fresh ideas other than the above that I've tried?? Thanks
  5. Where abouts did you find the leak? As I'm seaching for a leak on mine at the moment. Had the water bottle changed about 2 years ago so doubt it will have gone again. Will check the radiator later as yesterday the whole car was wet so impossible to detect the leak.
  6. I had one wearing out of shape and I even had to get rid of it for an MOT! Wasn't pleased at all. Now I have another noisey one and it does sound like a bearing I must admit. I don't think I'll be getting Kumhos next time.
  7. Mine's in there on the 29th April also for a 90k Service and brakes...might see you there:) As for Simpsons...I moved from Alex Lawrie in Liverpool due to bad experiences with them, can't fault Simpsons of Preston..keep up the good work.
  8. Mine was about £375 inc VAT at Skoda. (cambelt + waterpump and fanbelt).
  9. Took my car in last Thursday and it turns out there was a problem with the fuel pump relay again, so they replaced it again under parts warranty. Fingers crossed!
  10. Since July my VRS has been fine but about a month ago when having a service I got Skoda to check out the problem again and they advised to change the fuel pump relay...so I thought all the trouble I've had previously had gone away. Until last Tuesday when my car wouldn't start again. Same old problem with the glow plug light not coming on and the ASR light showing on the dash. After about 3-4 mins of me just turning the ignition on and off (without turning the engine over) the glow plug light eventually came on so turned the engine over and the car started almost immediately. The car was then fine for the day but yesterday morning I tried and guess what...same trouble and this time it took me about 20 minutes or more before I got the glow plug light on and it started straight away again. This is a strange one for me and I just hope it doesn't happen again while I'm driving like it has done previously. I'm taking it into Skoda again next Thursday so I'll let you know what happens. What is the position as regards paying for this problem to be fixed as this will be the 3rd time they've had the car in for this problem? Will I still have to pay full whack?! as it hasn't been corrected as yet. Thanks
  11. Can anyone help me please? I was just driving down the road at a steady 30 when the car juddered and cut out and the steering was really heavy and not much brake power either. I managed to get it round a corner and tried re-starting...but just kept turning over with no signs of starting at all. When it cut out the ASR light came on, on the dashand was still on when I try re-ignition, also when I press the ASR button it still remains on. Thing is I don't hear the usual fuel pump noise etc when I turn the key. Went back to my car about 4 hour later and still the same, but then I kept trying the ignition until eventually I heard the noise...the ASR light went out and it started!! Weird ...do you think my car has been possessed?!
  12. But the think that amazes me is that the garage was official Skoda and he looked on his PC and came up with the 80,000 miles, very strange how some official garages are inconsistant with each other on such an important part.
  13. I was recently told by my local Skoda dealer that the cam belt in the VRS should be changed every 4 years or 80,000 miles, I questioned the bloke and he confirmed it was 80,000 miles.
  14. Well my 04 VRS has never ever displayed the service indicator at all....any ideas?
  15. I thought it was 80,000 or 100,000 for cam belt on the VRS as I've not had mine done yet and I'm near 70,000 miles and been serviced all through Skoda. I'm almost certain its 80,000 or more in my service book.
