  2. David, Spoke with my insurance company, and to be honest wasn't convinced with their answers even though I quote word for word your three questions. So requested my policy document, applicable sections below: 2.2 Total loss We will normally declare your vehicle a total loss: • If we deem the cost of repairing your vehicle as uneconomical; or • If your vehicle has been stolen and not recovered. If your vehicle is declared a total loss as a direct result of an insured event (as above), we will offer you a monetary amount as compensation. The maximum amount we will pay is the market value of your vehicle, less any policy excess which is applicable (see Sections 2.9 and 2.10). If you owe us an outstanding amount under this policy when the claim has been made, you must pay this amount in full before we can settle the claim. And the new for old part: 2.6 Vehicle recovery We will, at your request, replace your vehicle with another of a similar make, model and specification following an incident covered by Section 2 provided that all of the following applies: i. You are the first registered owner of your vehicle from new; ii. Your vehicle is no more than 12 months old from the date of first registration; iii. The repair costs exceed 60% of the market value of your vehicle; iv. We have permission from any person that has a financial interest in the vehicle; v. Your vehicle is not subject to a lease or contract hire agreement or any other similar arrangement. Therefore I don't feel it gives me what I want, plus it ties me to my insurance company as my policy is due for renewal early April. Spoke to the dealers to get the invoice value which is after the £4K discount is £22,361.41 which includes the options I have added to the vehicle. I should also be picking the vehicle up on 14th March. So what I am looking for is cost for 3 and 4 years of GAP Insurance to cover replacing the vehicle with the same specification vehicle, which I want to run and cover from me collecting the vehicle or very soon after. I'm in Woolston, now live less than a mile from where I was born in Paddington, grew up in Grappenhall. As for Mr Smiths spent many a night in there myself in the 80s & 90s.   4. Hi David, In the process of purchasing a new Octavia vRS TDI, due some point mid March, yet to get a confirmed delivery date. Was debating GAP Insurance and think it is worthwhile given outlay. Policy I was looking at was the replacement vehicle option to cover any increase in prices over the duration I have the vehicle on finance (4 Years). My aim for the cover is that I can get the same car as a replacement should mine be written off, as we only have one car in the household and I need it for commuting to work etc. The car with extras comes in at RRP £26,530. Will need to get invoice amount I am paying from the dealer. But they are offering an additional £4K extra part ex/discount against RRP, which brings the car down to £22.5K but obviously replacement would be more if I couldn't get a similar offer in x period of time should I need to claim. Also my current insurance policy and I have checked does offer new for old in first 12 months, So I am thinking I need GAP cover for 3 years starting at the end of year one and providing cover until the car is paid off at the end of year 4, which has a balloon payment associated with it of just under £10K. Appreciate I need to buy the policy when I get delivery of the car. Can I get a policy to cover my requirements given the additional £4K discount and is that my best option? Many Thx
  5. Read this thread with interest Neil03 you state you have good CCTV of the incident, have you not tried providing that to Skoda? After all it will show you parking up & leaving the car, so if the handbrake was off it would of rolled straight away, then sometime later will show the car roll forward on its own. Is that not enough proof for them there is a problem?
  6. Had my last four cars done by Pentagon Glass (2 x Octavia's) using the SupaGlass tints the stuff that can't be broken from the outside, so added security. Did a great job plus comes with a lifetime warranty. Also when there was the issue on the Octy MKII rear quarter lights which Skoda replaced on a recall/known issue they tinted the rear quarter lights for free. The one I use is in Manchester run by Mark Kay but there are other depots across the country. www.pentagonglasstech.com/
  7. Resolved, spoke to a Locksmith who specialises in Cars, stated locks don't collapse, or in 20 years in the job he's never had one. Explained the issue and was advised to jam a big screwdriver in the lock to force back the piece of metal that was block access. Please don't try this on yours, or if you do it's at your own risk. As at the end of the day my lock was broke and I was stranded having to get the car towed to the dealers so had nothing to lose if I broke anything. But it worked, spent an age lubricating and testing the lock and it now appears to work fine every time, key goes in easier now, so would imagine it's never been lubricated, I'd ceratinly never done it, so a lesson learned. Plus I now have a big screwdriver in the boot just in case. Better than my local dealer who wanted £285 fitting a new barrel with 2 different keys whilst they waited for the correct code part from Skoda which was apparently on a 6-8 week leadtime!!!
  8. Anyone come across this before, went out this morning returning home, no issues, went to go out again a little later and the Key wouldn't go into the ignition. Seemed like something had broken off inside but the key is perfect no missing bits. You can see down the barrel of the ignition lock and there is a piece of metal about eight of an inch in to the left side which is solid and won't move. The car hasn't been broken into as it was on my drive and it was only 15 minutes earlier I'd returmed home. Tried WD40 in the lock to try and free it up, tried putting the steering lock on in case there is something electronic that needs to unlock, but no joy. Local mechanic has looked at it and he thinks the lock barrel has collapsed. Spoke with two local dealers, fully explaining the issue, and bar the one that asked can I bring it in so they can have a look to be sure, they both recon the same and I will need a new barrel. No w the problem is they are coded to the car, and have to be ordered in with then quoting 5 - 10 days delivery. Cost seems pretty reasonable will have change from £100 inc fitting & VAT with barrel being £45 +VAT but it is the time delay, as we are a one car family and I use it for work. Anyone come across this issue before, or any solutions, need to find my local scally to hot wire it so I can get it started :-) BTW Car is nearly 5 years old with just 51K on the clock and out of the 4 year warranty I had.   9. Running on Tesco Momentum in my vRS have been for a good while now and it does run smoother, got 43.1MPG on a run up north last night, helped I suppose by the immense length of the roadworks around Luton on the M1 and being sat at 50MPH.
  10. Thanks again guys, to confirm is a 57 Plate October 2007, just gone over 40K Miles but not quite 4 years old. Think I will get it done at an independents. Will contact a mate of my dads who has his own Garage.
  11. Thanks guys, having a read of the other thread now. Good that my supplying dealer and the only dealer that has serviced it to date, checked and advised it was a chain and not a belt, but every other dealer who haven't seen it say belt. Not going to be cheap, but it is looking like it will be an independent doing the work.
  12. Need to get my vRS booked in for a 40K Service, which will be my first paid service having had the 3 year free servicing deal from new. Anyway listed in the manual is "Inspect condition and tension of ribbed V-belt" with "Replace toothed belt (2.0-ltr. FSI Engines)" listed at 180,000KM (112K Miles). Now I have contacted two local dealers, the one that supplied the Car said it didn't need doing as my car a 57, 2010 Plate has a Chain and not a belt, where as another dealer is adamant it has a belt and needs inspecting and that it is as cheap to change the belt and water pump as an option as it is to inspect it. They are quoting £518 for the Cambelt & Water Pump change including VAT but will give me a 10% discount. Now my questions are is it a belt or chain on the vRS FSI and does the Cambelt need to be changed at 40K or 112K and is it that difficult a job to inspect and hence changing it is the better option. Yet to contact my local independent garage. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thx Steve

Also very happy with mine, despite a load of problems at the start of this year which Skoda eventually resolved and gave me an additional 12 months warranty and recovery for free because of issues encountered. This is my second Skoda on the bounce a Elegance 2.0TDi followed by my current petrol vRS, so had Skoda's now from new for 6 years and overall very happy with them, first time I have ever had the same make never mind model back to back, normally always change manufacturers, but that impressed with the Skoda.
  14. Dodgy fuel and/or clogged/knackered injectors, my petrol version started as you describe, then progressed to engine management light and dealers not being able to find anything. See my post vRS Sluggish on acceleration - the return, updated just..
  15. Well getting on for nearly six months since the Car was fixed and it is still running like a dream with no other issues being encountered, still getting 36MPG on a run, so well pleased. Plus true to their word the dealers have extended the warranty and roadside recovery by 12 months at no cost to myself, both policy documents came through from Skoda last week. So I am going to keep the car for at least another 12 months, daft to let it go really as it only has 35K miles on it.
  16. Well a fortnight on and the car is still running like a dream even managing 35.x MPG going in to work, the same run that I was getting 18 MPG on when I had the initial problems back in January. It's very quiet on startup, instant acceleration, a nice throaty roar when you boot it and does it go, it flies. Everthing I thought I was buying back in October 97 when the car was brand new. I have now receive the confirmation letter from the dealer confirming the Skoda 4th Year Warranty with Skoda Assist. Loving driving it on a daily basis even on the mundane commute in to Liverpool, still arrive at work with a smile on my face, so the pain was worth it in the end.

  18. Guys many thanks for your assistance and advice over the past months on this issue, very much appreciated. As for the Car was running like a dream today and on a run in to Liverpool from Warrington I managed an average of 32.1 mpg at rush hour, a figure I have never previously seen with the vRS. Current decision is I am going to keep the Car longer term, with the additional 12 months warranty taking me until October 2011 a fully paid off Car and 4 new tyres on it when I put the spare two on from in the Shed and a free Service still outstanding, I would be daft to get rid. That is unless it spends more time at the Dealers between now and this October, but I doubt that, he says touching wood ;-)

Day 50 and the vRS is back It is looking excellent, has had a full valet, full tank of fuel they have even changed the metal trim above the Glove Box that the wife managed to scratch with her bag. As for the engine, a whole host of new parts, ECU, Cables, Valves, Sensors and two new injectors which were the case of the problem. Gave the Car a quick blast round the industrial estate and back through the streets during rush hour and it still managed 32mpg, never had it above 30 ever since I have had it and that included a run down the M6 Toll at 60mph. Dealers are leaving it with me for a week, before giving me a call to see how it has been, hopefully all will be well now. It looks, sounds and runs better than it ever has a lot smoother, instant power on draft and handles brilliantly. Now need time to bed in to it again as I have got used to the Octavia 1.9TDi, so being negative how much is the difference moving to a petrol vRS from a 1.9 Diesel? Time will tell. Now the debate is do I keep the Car, 3 years is up 1st October, and taking into account the car will be fully paid off and I get a Car allowance from work to buy a car, do I trade in or keep what I've got and take the cash as a bonus. Suppose that will only be answered if the car is reliable until October and have no issues with it, plus dealer is looking to extend the warranty by 12 months because of all the issues I have had. So if all goes well and they extend the warranty it will stay given it only has 28K on it, I have one free main service remaining and two brand new 18" Michelin Pilot Sport 2's in the shed. But if it is back and too, to the dealers with further issues it will be going. So again time will tell.

Well it's still ongoing, enters it's 8th Week next week and still no call back from the dealer principal, despite his promise to investigate and get back to me, also not heard from the service manager, been speaking with the workshop and workshop manager and getting the true story and not lots of bull and stalling tactics Anyway been down there this morning to see the workshop and pick some stuff up from in my car and remember what it looks like. Spent an hour with the master technician who is now working on my car and had a look at the reams of printouts from the diags system and the errors being reported. In summary the fault was not the ECU, or the Air Mast Metre they have swapped twice, plus numerous other parts, cabling and sensors they have changed, he has it down to the injectors. He originally wanted to swap all 4 out but Skoda wouldn't authorise it so he swapped one out, injector 4 which resolved 80% of the issues but it is also showing misfires on injector 3. So he swapped injectors 2 & 3 round and the issue moved to injector 2 so he was in the process of replacing injector 3 having moved them back. He then needs to reassemble the engine and retest and should know more Monday. He is hoping that this finally resolves the problems once and for all. The reports still show a lean mixture and an Air Mast metre issue but he believes the injectors are causing this. He has proved that the injector was leaking and dripping fuel into the engine which the new injectors will resolve. He is hoping that he doesn't end up having to change all 4 injectors individually because of the time it takes to dismantle and rebuild the engine. Have a lot more faith in the Dealer now and the Technician now working on my Car, now that I am dealing direct with the workshop and not the Sales, Dealer and Customer facing side of the Business.
  21. Latest update. No call by lunchtime so called them at lunchtime 12:00 only to discover Service Manager is on Hols until Monday, tried to speak with Dealer Principal, not available, but will call back absolutely furious with them especially when I called back at 16:00 to be told they are very busy, as if I am sat here doing nothing in work. Eventually got a call just before 17:00 to advise me the part they said was potentially faulty a relay has been replaced and not solved the problem and they believe now that one of the injectors is sticking so are fitting a new injector and will test in the morning. Give the new guy his due he was very informative and apologetic, but and give him is due on this one wouldn't commit to when I would get the Car back until it is fully fixed and the issue resolved. Unlike the other guy who has made many broken promises and has swore blind on numerous occasions I would have the Car back. So the saga continues.................
  22. Sorry no further updates, Dealer Principal is still to get back to me. Tried calling the Service Manager for an update today at 15:00, left a message, and then again at 17:00 again no response and to make matters worse got two different excuses why he wasn't available, one contradicting the other. So not happy will call them tomorrow lunchtime if I haven't heard anything.
  23. OK spoke with Dealer Principal today. Eventually that is, after my first call they took a message for him, only for me to be called back by the Service Manager I was already dealing with. Anyway eventually got a call from the Dealer Principal this afternoon, went through the issue and full history with him. Whilst he had, had a brief from the Service Manager he wasn't fully aware of the situation or the length of time they have had my Car. (6 weeks tomorrow) He has promised to investigate and get back to me. On the Car, they have put a specialist on the car to try and resolve the issues, apparently they have identified a relay? that might not be supplying enough voltage to some part or other that causes the problem on cold starting and have ordered another new part which they are to fit tomorrow and test. Apparently they have isolated the problem down and can recreate it at will, but only when the engine has been left and is stone cold. It does not do it when warm or hot or once it has got up to temperature.So if it gets there without the engine warning light coming on it is fine, but another time when cold it will come on and apparently that is what is taking so long in testing the Car and resolving the issue. So I wait to hear from them and see if this next step resolves the issue.

For what's if worth my order as per sig Ordered @ Dealer - 18/07/07 Build Week 36 - 03/09/07 Left Czech Factory - 16/09/07 UK Delivery Grimsby - 26/09/07 Dealer Delivery - 27/09/07 Delivery Date - 01/10/07 Was my choice to have it on 1st Oct as wanted the Window tints fitted and I also added some extras after ordering which pushed the build week back.
